Body, parts identified as that of local fire chief

HENDERSONVILLE (AP) — Authorities in Henderson County searched Monday for the missing wife of a local fire chief, whose body was found near his home with missing parts that later were found strewn along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Officials said the body was that of Donald Larry Gash, 48, chief of the Etowah-Horse Shoe Fire Department.

Sheriff George H. Erwin Jr. said the body was found Saturday morning near Gash's home. Erwin declined to comment on the condition of the body or the possible cause of death, saying only "it was definitely not an intact body."

Officials have not made an arrest in the case, and detectives have "no prime suspect at this point" but would like to question Mrs. Gash about her husband's death, Erwin said.

Gash was reported missing Wednesday by a concerned friend.

Officers discovered the body outside the home. The chief's wife, 50-year-old Gail Christine Hutchinson Gash, was reported missing shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday by the couple's son, 31-year-old Donald E. Gash, according to a Sheriff's Department report.

Police launched a nationwide search for Gail Gash, whose car was found abandoned Saturday morning at the Shaw Creek Church cemetery about two miles from the small brick home where the couple lived.

A Sheriff's Department report lists her as an endangered missing person.

I wonder why they didn't consider, that maybe the wife is missing because she may have had something to do with it
