As I'm sure some of you already know, it really came to light yesterday that Magnolia royally screwed up (by "dumbing down") the English subtitles on their DVD release of Let the Right One In. Someone over at Icons of Fright did an article comparing the subtitles on the DVD to the theatrical subtitles on the screener disc.

Some good news and bad news, though;
Good news: because of all the angry e-mails Magnolia received about it, they're going to re-release it with the original subtitles.
Bad news: They're not going to be doing exchanges. You'll have to buy it again.
Here's an article at the AV Club describing this in more detail:

Really quite disappointing for those who care about this issue.
wow....there's some really stupid changes there.

Well, if you have the original release someday it'll be a collector's item.

Yeahhh, luckily I live where the distributer wasn't stupid enough to dumb down the dialogue. When i read about this yesterday I was pretty irate. Such a beautiful movie, and now a lot of people will see it once, think it's stupid, and never watch it again.

Get on it!
I don't think you'll have to deal with bad subtitles. As far as I know, it was only on the Magnolia R1 US release.
But seriously, great film.

Watched this a couple of weeks and LOVED the movie. Weird thing is, we watched it dubbed (which I hardly ever do) so I guess that was actually the original dialogue? I was going to buy it, so I could watch it again soon, with subtitles instead (the dubbing was the only problem I had with the film, I thought it was wonderful otherwise). Glad I came by here and read this before I made the purchase.

You can order through Amazon Canada if you don't feel like waiting for a proper US release.

I might have to do that myself.
I already bought the stupid thing.

Erm if you haven't already done so, don't. Same problem with the subtitles.

Ah, phew!
Thank you a billion for letting me know.
If I had inadvertently bought the thing twice, I probably would have ended up doing something worthy of extensive news coverage.
