my latest discovery (and this is not an ad) is mucinex. stupid ass commercials but damn it works. my chest has been fairly uncongested since i took it - my throat still hurts and i still feel like crap but my chest is clear

Honestly, I just go nuts with water and orange juice/fresh fruit. Never hangs on more than a day or two.
Can't understand all the crazy stuff people go through...just drink like it's going out of style. I'm a pissing machine whenever I get sick, and it always clears it up in a heartbeat.

Pretty much the same thing but I take a lot of B vitamins and zinc as well (cold-eeze works great).
i've been drinking water and juice but my chest and throat were still killing me. my throat is still really sore and i'm guessing i'll have to go to work tomorrow (skipped today and left early yesterday)

I used to drink NyQuil till my face melted off. Somewhere around half way through the second bottle I always got the sensation of my face sliding down onto my shirt. Needless to say I never cured a cold this way, in fact I'm sure it only made it worse. Now I stick to the old natural way, tons of juice.
Starve a fever, feed a cold.

Zinc. Lots of Zinc. Zicam works well, I would also take extra zinc in pill form.

Stop at the nearest motel, get a room, and take a shower.
No, seriously. I take Dayquil and then sip orange juice during the day. I get a few bottles to have some on hand. I also get some zinc lozenges--they work!--like Cold-Eez--I think someone else mentioned those. Zinc, zinc. It really, really, really works.
I tried that Airborn stuff, and the results were not really great. Not sure if it does anything but drain your wallet of seven bucks.
thanks guys - this thing is killing me - four days now and i'm still in agony and hacking endlessly

When I have an uncontrolable cough, I'll drink a tall glass of water or two. It won't take effect for five or ten minutes, but sometimes a little boost of hydration is all it takes to stop the coughing fits. Works for me 90% of the time.

Hot soaks help but add a ton of sea salt.
Salt draws out impurities and toxins out of the body.
Go get the 1000 mg. chewable Vit.C and eat them like candy.
You can't overdose and C is one of those wonderful vitamins that go right thru you.
The FDA have the milligrams on C about 200,000 mg. too short.
They are scared if they recommend the RIGHT dose, we will have a C shortage.
Get well soon you poor sick thing.

Lots of Orange Juice --for the Vitamin C. Vicks (vaporizing rub) Robitussin-- (they make cold capsules now--which avoids the messy, nasty, cough syrup, and they have varities for all kinds of symptoms--cough & cold, nasal congestion, diabetics, sugar-free, etc) Thermometer check if it turns to a fever.
Hope it Helps. :)

I am officially stealing all these idea, my cold is kicking my ass.
I've been taking Tylenol cold pills. They come in day and night time formulas, but until today I had only ever used the PM. Turns out the daytime ones contain some of the same ingredients as the decongestants and anti-hystamines that get me really high.

Tylenol works pretty good--it knocks out headaches, menstral cramps, and some cold-like symptoms. The also make extra strength if your immune system requires that extra kick. I have to stick with Tylenol because Bayer and Bendadryl, and a few others have aspirin in them--and I have an allergic gene to aspirin. Tylenol doesn't have aspirin so, it works for me.

I totaly agree with you. Have you had to use a nebulizer on your baby? My son hated that thing.

My best line of defense for a cold is to take echinacea, vitamin C, and zinc lozenges as soon as I feel as though I'm fighting something. If I take that all several times per day right away, then I can often avoid a full-blown cold. The zinc lozenges are great for this, since you can suck on them throughout the day. And even the colds I do get are often mild and only last a few days. You can also do the same things for babies (minus the zinc). With my daughter I gave her echinacea drops, and liquid vitamin C. I was okayed to do this by a naturopathic doctor, and it does help her get over it a little faster. Putting a vaporizer in the room while they're sleeping helps too.

You mean the kind that fills the room, sort of like an Air Freshener? Or actually vaporizing rub/cream on the child? Because if it's the second one, my only fear would be if the kid tosses, turns, and rubs their face a lot in their sleep--wouldn't want them to get it all over themselves or swallow it either.

My throat is very scratchy n dry now....it didn't start until after I drank a cup of green tea....very weird. I would think it would prevent that from happening. Oh well. Suggestions people?
i can add that you should never fly with a cold - i just flew down to texas and back and was getting over a cold that got way worse and my ears were completely stuffed - i was practically deaf the whole weekend
