So Guiness has thrown down an interesting list it certainly has some elements I'd agree with with some even larger omissions that surprised me.

Whacha'all think?

4 & 5 should be 1 & 2.

That looks a lot pro-Nintendo, if you ask me.

Sonic at 15, no Half-Life, no F.E.A.R., heck no Contra even??? One of the main reasons so many units of Gameboy were sold back in the early 90s was the huge popularity of Contra.

Disappointing list. I am sure Cheebs will agree with me here.

Laughably bad list, their judges obviously don't know much about games. I've played all but 2 games on that list and I can't see where they're coming from. Outrun 2? Seriously? I'd rather play Beetle Adventure Racing.

Reminds me of the IMDB Top 250 list - lots of quality entries, but mostly pretty baffling.

Agreed.

And agreed.

To see BioShock on there and have it be as low as number 40 is just shocking. I think that it should be in the Top 20 at a minimum.

I also agree that Super Mario World should be ranked higher than Mario Kart, as should Super Mario Bros. Super Mario was simply ground-breaking NES entertainment and, to state the obvious, you couldn't have one without the other.

As V pointed out, there's love for Sonic 2, but the first Sonic was ground-breaking in its own way, and I thought that it surpassed Nintendo's technology when released. I think that both games should be on there.

...

AND WHERE THE HELL IS FALLOUT 3???????

FEAR doesn't belong in the top 50 games of all time, in my opinion hahaha...and I worked on it!

These kinds of lists are always so dumb to me anyway, though. Different people like different things...it's way too hard to nail down the important aspects and considerations of the different genres of games.

Like, in many ways Tetris should be #1 just because it is what it is....a perfectly addicting game for all occasions of boredom. In that regard, Windows Solitare could be on there, too, though.

My list would be way different, for sure. Mario Galaxy would be WAY higher than it is...and there is like nothing from Id on there, which is just wrong in so many ways. Doom 2 or Wolfenstein deserve recognition. Quake 2 come on!!!

It's late and I accidnetally deleted something like 800 words commentary.

Brief synopsis:

The list seems to take sales, accessability and technological advancement a bit to much top heart.

As good as Nintendo is and has been the process of awarding the same freaking concepts with refinement and jamming a new one on the list is beyond me.

Absence of games like Doom, Starcraft, Diablo, Baldur's Gate and Deus Ex are strange. Which lends it to an overall read that seems more like "THe top 50 games developed in Japan" list (I know they weren't all developed in Japan, but shit an awful lot of them were).

It's hard to understand why so many awards take into account a games history (GTA, Mario, Zelda) and just as many ignore the history (Bioshock but no System Shock, Super Metriod but none of it's pre-cursors, Castlevania:SoN, the PGR series the RE series and COD 4 but no other CODs?) If you wish to pick the best refinement of those concepts and award that I get it, but that part is not consistent.

Super Mario 3 was the best Mario anyway.

Also, Urge Halo 2 better then Halo 3? Come one now, fix ya list man!

I guess that was long and boring enough as is huh?

URGEOK'S TOP 3 LIST :

really? do you not play that many video games? i have a grudge against the Halo series, all the games are incredibly average but for some reason extremely popular.

That guinness list is lame btw.

Really Mothman? For console FPS games the Halo series set the bar with graphics, execution, and style in my opinion.

for me :
halo had the most interesting maps/backgrounds
the best music
it saved often
i loved the creatures/weapons
it was linear - not too hard but hard enough to be interesting

i dont really care for games. we have hundreds of them - many i bought for myself (most for the kid). the halo games are the only ones i cared to play for more than 20 minutes, let alone finish. games bore the hell out of me.

i dont care about what other people like - those are my 3 favorites.

i certainly dont claim to be a hard core gamer (and i'll never ever want to be)

The Halo games are all i'll ever need.

I think the Call Of Duty series blew it out of the water, even though its not specifically for consoles.
