The Gate Master
02-24-2009, 11:56 AM
Welcome, good people of HDC, to the first fight of the realms, a new experience for you, I'm sure. I, am The Gate Master. I have arrived to propose a challenge to you. The winner of said challenge shall receive the honor of being the true champion of the realms, something that can never been taken from you.

I have been observing this...community, of yours for a while and have noticed to good people here are ready to face daunting tasks. There are competitions, projects, tournaments and many more. You must feel worn out from recent occasions. It is for that reason that I will take this opportunity to tell you that this competition is very easy. In fact, much of it is based on luck. There are ways to use your intelligence to avoid getting...lost. But, though there will be challenges, the answers will only range from, shall we say, one word to a paragraph. This will not be about sparing time to do tasks, but merely dropping in to get ahead.

The true challenge is finding your way. Though, I shall go into that once we have enough people ready to venture into the realms of gates. It are a confusing, misleading place, and many of you won't make it. But one will. Maybe it will be a previous winner of another competition with yet another trophy to add to their case, or maybe it will be somebody new.

The first gate is in front of you. You may venture into it if you wish. But once you do, there is no going back. There is no teamwork involved in this competition, so if for any reason you need to drop out, you will not fail anybody. In fact, you do not even have to partake in every round, though it will hinder you if you don't.

So, choose not. Do you go in, or do you not? It is up to you, people of Horror.com. Do you dare venture into the unknown to face either certain death or wonderful victory. You have until Midnight EST, this Thursday to decide.

I'm glad that I'm not the only Ghostbusters geek around here - That was my first kneejerk reaction. That and I was going to make some comment about, "If I enter the gate will I come out in a happy place where I no longer have to work in the seventh circle of hell?" :p

...

Sorry that your cover was blown (that's what SHE said)... I'm in, FC, though to tell you the truth I've been strapped at work lately. Any way that deadlines can be extended over weekends would be key.

I should commit suicide, oh wait I'm too lame for that now. ARRGG I'm doomed to a life of acting progressively more and more like the kind of person I never wanted to be. I think I need to pick some of my old habits back up again, just for a change.

Okay, though you all know my identity, if it adds to the ambience, I will use this account whenever on this thread. The reason I gave in is that I just though; why drain out the embarrasment any longer. But, it's cool now because more people are interested than I expected.

A few questions I'll answer:

-This is very different from the Battle Royale. When coming up with this, I had several ideas but scrapped them because it would be just unfair to use any of V's great ideas.

-As I said, it doesn't tend to matter if you miss each round. It just helps if you don't. The deadlines won't be too harsh. Also, each answer should only take about ten or so minutes.

-The Gate Keeper is a distant relative of mine. I call him every other month.

Those who have stepped through the first gate are:

Papillon Noir
Murderdoll
Chronogrl
Freak
Bwind22
Fortunato
Neverending
The Flayed One
Roshiq
Nightmare of Death
Scouse Mac

You have entered a world of oddity. Be prepared, tactics are what it is all about.

Anybody else who would like to join in on the action is welcome to. You have until Midnight this Thursday. Don't be late...

I'VE COME FROM A PLACE
THAT NONE SHOULD TREAD
BETWEEN HEAVEN & HELL
YOU'LL KNOW WHEN YOU'RE DEAD

WHEN MY NAME IS IN TYPE

Welcome, one and all, to the Realms of the Gates. You have chosen to enter a world of confusion and anguish. Be prepared, though the questions may be easy, finding your way around won't.

There are ten realms, and in each realm are 5 gates. These realms are the White realm, Red Realm, Yellow Realm, Green Realm, Blue Realm, Orange Realm, Purple Realm, Brown realm, Grey Realm and Black Realm. Everybody in each realm will receive a question. It will be a question with several answers, but you will only be able to submit one answer.

Once the deadline is over, everybody who posted a correct answer will have the chance to select on of the five gates (eg. Red 2, Blue 5, Black 1 etc.) This will lead you to another realm. The gates are one way only, and so you cannot backtrack. The idea is to travel to every realm. Once you have a new gate will be open for you to step through. Once three people have done this, the final will take place. But I will get to that later.

There are several rules-

-Every answer must be posted on this thread.
-Due to several answers being possible, anybody who repeats an answer after ten minutes of it's posting will not be able to travel through a gate on that turn.
-It is not compulsory to submit any answers. You will not be able to travel through the gates though.

It would be wise to pay attention to the gates your opponents travel through. You might find it useful.

Everybody who stepped through the first gate is now in the same realm.

Well done to everybody who answered their challenge, nobody answered false. A quick report on the statistics so far; Bwind is in the lead having not backtracked at all. Having looked at the map, there are two possible paths he could take that would lead him to the end without backtracking once. However, if my calculations are correct, the odds are massively against him. Good luck.

Several people who have missed out one challenge, chosen a wrong path or answered incorrectly are just lagging behind with one less. There are several who are just behind those, but in the end, it's all down to luck and a certain degree of tactics. Do not forget that there is a button to look at previous pages.

But, now onto your next challenge!

Congratulations to all contestants. Now, in a stroke of fortune, Scouse Mac has taken the lead with only one more realm to venture into! Unfortunately, he is not entirely close to it, and there is a one in twenty five chance he will pick the correct route. Incidentally, that is the same chance that Bwind will take the correct route to reach the two realms he needs to go to. Of course...that is, if they pick randomly. One needs only to realize the gates they need, realize where they are and look at the scoreboard!!! The information to help both of them is up there. As it is for everybody else. Every realm has been ventured to. If you follow paths already laid out in front of you, you can make it!

Well, this has been an unfortunate round for some. Neverending, I'm afraid you answered the wrong question. And Papillon Noir, you submitted your answers, yes, but after the deadline. It would be unfair for me to count it. And yet, several contestants progressed rather well. Bwind22 only has one more realm to reach, as does Scouse Mac. I will not tell you how close or far they are from their goal. They may know their target, but whether their routes were well calculated will soon be revealed. But I'm sure they have a method...

Now, onto the next challenge.

Addressed to those in the Grey Realm:

You have until Wednesday 12:00pm EST to submit your answers and your gate of choice.

It is now that I will tell you an important thing to note. As there is only room for three people to go through to the next stage, as the space gets filled and you have less of a chance of being one of the three, the questions will get slightly longer. By no means will they be an essay. Usually a paragraph. But just be prepared.

Bill gets shot full of arrows

Red 2 (woo hoo!)

The Gate Master

The first.

Scouse Mac looks around at the red walls of the huge hall. He takes a moment to look at the ornate carvings, then the familiar deep voice rings out, asking him the question. He contemplates for a moment, smiles to himself then speaks the anwer.

"Bill gets shot full of arrows."

There's a slight pause, and then...the usual deep rumbling, then the five stone archways light up, red energy flowing through them. He looks at them, then pulls a piece of paper out of his pocket. It has names, numbers and colours scribbled all over it in blood. He puts it back in his pocket then runs forward, into the second gate. Darkness, then, the walls around him light up. He laughs as he looks around. He is in the blue realm! Scouse Mac pulls the piece of paper and frantically crosses off the word blue with some blood from his finger. No soon has the paper gone into his pocket than a light appears in front of him.

A swirling ball of light and stone is in the middle of the grand hall. He takes off a show and throws it in. The shoe lights up, glowing a blinding yellow colour. He closes his eyes and looks back. The shoe is gone.

"What have I got to lose?" he mutters, as he runs forward and dives into the ball. He is instantly deafened by the electrical sound waves punping into his body. The light inside the ball is so intense his eyes melt. He tries to scream but the energy flows down his throat and disintegrates his lungs. He puts his hands to his face but they turn to ash. Slowly, his whole body blackens and caves in on itself.

Neverending and Chronogrl are both walking towards the second gate in the blue realm when they notice Scouse Mac enter. They turn to him and try to speak as a light appears, but they're fixed to the floor and as they shout out no sound is made. They try to get his attention but he doesn't seem to be able to see them. They watch in horror as Scouse Mac burns apart and disappears. The swirling ball fades away and suddenly they can move again. They run back to the spot where it all just happened. Nothing is there.

A rumbling sound, then pieces of rock start to fall from the ceiling. Neverending pulls Chronogrl away as one of the three glass balls suspended from the ceiling falls down and smashes on the stone floor. In the grey realm, Papillon Noir is backed against the wall, smashed glass in front of her also. She looks up at the glass balls, then the deep voice sounds;

"One of the Three..."

Papillon Noir shakes her head, then runs through the first gate.

The Second

Bwind22 paces around in the great yellow hall. He looks down at Fortunato and The Flayed One, who both seem to be sleeping. He sighs and then continues pacing. The question is asked and he laughs out loud. He promptly states his answer;

"Reflections on a Crime. Now open the gates you bastard."

There is a faint rumble and the gates light up. He walks back to the two sleeping people and spits.

"Scum. I'm getting out of here..."

In his head he goes over the gates he's been through, then walks towards the gates. He thinks for a moment. Suddenly, there are steps behind him. He turns just in time to see Fortunato, running at him with a piece of glass from the floor. He dives out of the way but Fortunato runs at him again. Bwind punches him in the face but Fortunato throws the glass. Bwind dives out of the way, falling into Yellow 2. Darkness. Then light

He looks around. The walls are black and there is a faint dripping sound from the walls. He looks around. Nobody there. Then a bright light appears in front of him. The swirling ball of stone and light. He looks at it warily, then sticks his hand in. A piece of stone hits it just as it lights up. The hand crumbles. Bwind cries out, his shouting echoing through the halls. He looks at the ball of energy again, gulps, then dives into it. He lights up and screams in pain as he slowly burns away then caves in on himself. The ball of lights caves in on itself once more.

In the Yellow Realm, the second glass ball drops from the ceiling, smashing on the floor. A piece of glass spins into The Flayed One's leg, who wakes up and looks around in a fit of panic. The deep voice sounds.

"Two of the Three..."

The Gate Master

Fortunato and The Flayed One are sitting in the Yellow Realm. The gates are open but they remain still. Fortunato is wondering what came over him, and The Flayed One is attempting to heal his leg. But what seems to worry them most is the sound of scratching. Scratching coming from the outside of the walls. The deep voice rings through the realms.

"Oh, you are quite safe. You see, these realms are not just one room. You are in a hole new dimension, and it is made up of the separate realms. Why, they're in touching distance of each other. But these gates are the only way to cross through them. The gates were built by the old ones of this dimension, as a way of staying safe when they need to. But alas, they ran out of food and perished. But the gates remained.
Outside these halls, however, are creatures that occupy the dimesion. Creatures of unimaginable terror and evil whose one goal in life is to hurt. Not kill...hurt. Constant torture. They have a way of keeping their victims alive for an eternity, they just destroy them.
As I said, you are quite safe in there for now, but with every contestant that leaves, the energy required weakens the realms, spreading through the gates. Did you not wonder why only three can get through? After the third journey the outsiders will get in, and they will make you suffer. Be warned."

Fortunato and The Flayed One look at each other.

"Shit."

Addressed to those in the Black Realm:

List two pros and two cons of using CGI in films.

Pros:

CGI enables directors and producers to create realistic effects where costumes, props, and make-up fall short. CGI adds a level of realism to not only characters, but entire worlds and assists the viewer in suspending their disbelief in fantastical situations.
CGI will also ultimately improve the level of acting ability in films; when we can CGI parts of an actor (enhance/decrease body parts, body build, and facial beauty), we no longer need to hire beautiful people with no acting ability. Now, people can be hired on acting talent alone and CGI can make up for any physical inadequacy that they may have.

Cons:

Unfortunately, while CGI has been praised for enhancing the special effects industry, part of the drawback is that that it is expensive and, like all other special effects, unless you have adequate funding and creative skillsets, you risk poor CGI, which will result in the Viewer's incapability of suspending their disbelief.
Also, CGI brings along with it a certain set of negative connotations for the "purest" film viewer. For Viewers who have embraced the old school thought of make-up, props, animatronics, etc. to perform the special effects, the notion of CGI being brought into a film automatically separates them from the "reality" of the movie. While CGI can create some incredible effects, there will always be the purest neigh-sayers who will refuse to support these films based on principle. Also, the Screen Actors Guild is horrified by the notion of CGI as it will ultimately put hundreds of physical special effects professionals out of jobs.

A violent whodunit begins in a progressive insane asylum in which the residents are not only permitted to walk freely about but are encouraged to act out their respective manic urges. The mysterious murders begin when a new nurse comes to work there, and the head doctor is struck with an axe. The older head nurse is left to take charge. Then the residents start dropping like flies. It turns out that the doctor is still alive (in the basement. Where else?), and the head nurse is actually a patient who believes herself to be a nurse. Rayne laughed to herself at the ease of her question and shouted out the answer. There was a moment of silence, then, the familiar sound of the gates opening. She smiled and ran straight through Red 2, landing in the blue realm.

"YES!"

She cheers as she looks around the new realm. Meanwhile...

Papillon Noir, knowing the correct answer, looks down at poor Freak, who appears to have gone mad with the stress and sliced open his own wrists. She turns shouts out her answer and it echoes through the great halls, then, the gates open. She lifts up her sleeve to show lots of letters and numbers carved into it with rough, red lines connecting them. She squints at them, then her eyes widen with delight. She turns to the gates.

There's a sharp sound, like a whip cracking, and at the other end of the large, blue hall, Rayne appears. She takes in her surroundings and cheers for a moment, then she spots Papillon Noir ahead of her.

"Hey! Papillon Noir, isn't it?" Says Rayne.

"See you later, babe! I'm leaving here...for good!" Replies Papillon Noir.

Rayne stares at her, confused, then she realizes what Papillon Noir means and runs towards her. Papillon Noir turns and rushes to the gates. Rayne is faster, however, and soon catches Papillon Noir. After a small struggle, Papillon Noir kicks at Rayne and manages to get back up. She dies into gate one, Rayne following her. Papillon Noir shoots through the gate but Rayne only meets a brick wall. She curses, too late.

Papillon Noir lands roughly in the orange realm, and after a short moment where she takes in her surroundings, her face lights up. Roshiq is sitting in the corner, mumbling, apparently oblivious to his surroundings. The large ball of energy appears in front of Papillon Noir. She stares at it, mesmerized, then, with her eyes shut, she jumps in, and proceeds to disintegrate.

All of the walls of all of the gates rumble deeply.

"Three of the Three...now is time."

Neverending closes his eyes and winces.

"I was getting there..."

He walks calmly to the middle of the room and looks up. Sure enough, the great glass ball falls from the ceiling, crushing him underneath it. Elsewhere, Chronogrl looks around with wide eyes.

"No...NO! It was gonna be me! No!"

The sound of the deep voice rings out in the realms again.

"Say hello to our new guests...throw open the doors!"

Throughout all of the realms, the doors are thrown open. Green smoke floods in and all of the flames go out, plunging each room into darkness. Then...the scuttling. The sound of the creatures of unimaginable horror, scuttling through the rooms. Their breathing is heavy and as they open and close their mouths, a sickly squelching sound is made. They reach their prey...certain contestants are screaming, others begging. Others appear to not care. But eventually, they all make the same sound. Screams...

Elsewhere is a space outside of reality but still in existence...

Papillon Noir is slowly reconstituted. She is in a world of colors. It is black, but everywhere around her are swirling colors. Some flashing by, some lingering. There doesn't seem to be an up or down, a ground or the sky, yet she remains in the same spot. She looks beside her and sees Bwind22 and Scouse Mac. They see her too. She tries to speak to them but for some reason, no sound comes out. There is a very bright flash, then a large eye appears in front of them. It blinks and as it does, the iris changes from red to yellow. The familiar voice rumbles through the strange place.

"Welcome, survivors of the realms. Now, the real challenge starts..."

The three survivors, you will all now be sent a PM to make sure that you know the new situation. The next challenge will be tougher than anything from the realms, so be ready. It will be posted on Wednesday along with all of the new rules.

Ew... I work until 11pm CST on Wednesday with no HDC access. I hope it's posted later at night or is not something that is time sensitive or I'm pretty much screwed.

Congrats Pap & Scouse! Good luck!

Welcome finalists. You are now in what some would call limbo. I call it home. It is a place to the side of reality and underneath plausibility, yet it is very much real. It is a world where things can be shaped and orchestrated with the right power. However, that is not truly important at the moment.

The next challenges will be much tougher than the previous ones and will be testing several areas.

Creativity
Logic
Perception

For each of these challenges there will be a certain number of points awarded. At the end of the challenges, the finalist with the most points will be the victor. The challenges will be posted and you will be required to state your answer in the thread as well as send it to me in the form of a private message. Now, on to the first challenge.

Each contestant is given control of a setting in this challenge. You have the powers of a God and more; you control people's free will. Each of you have a room under your control. It is a waiting room at a Dentist's.

In the waiting room is the receptionist, a young teenager and an elderly lady. The receptionist is sitting behind a desk witha computer in front of her. There are several shelves of files and some toothpaste bottles. A phone ids to the side of her and there is a desk lap on.
The elderly woman is sitting in a chair near the window. The window is slightly open and the old woman is carrying a small green bag. She is reading a magazine and sucking on a mint.
Several seats across from her is the young gothic teenager who has long purple hair and a school bag. They are listening to an iPod which is blaring out some loud rock music. The chair is just in front of a large picture painted by the local primary school.

Your task is to have two out of these three character's die. They can be murdered, they can die of a freak accident etc. You can do literally anything. You can add new characters, however it must be two of the described characters that dies. You will be marked on descriptive skills, the entertainment that the death provides and how creative it is. If you have the sun explode and kill them, you obviously need to put more work in.

The answer may be as long as you like. You have until Monday 12:00pm EST to submit your answers in both the thread and PM. If there are any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Dialogue is aloud and it can be written as a scene. Just remember it is the description of the death that I am most interested in. If dialogue progresses the scene then it is fine.

The Story of Franklin

Behind the receptionist, a small black cloud develops. This cloud expands quickly, unbeknown to the woman working at the desk and finally, with a small noise like that of microwave completing its task, a shape appears from the dark smog.
It took Franklin the Tooth Fairy a few seconds to adjust to the bright lighting of the waiting room. He glanced around and saw the woman immediately in front of him typing furiously on a computer. An old woman was completely engrossed in her Surfing magazine whilst a young lady with long purple hair had her eyes closed, slumped in a chair with one leg resting across the arm of another, her head bobbing up and down in time to loud music.

Silently, Franklin reached around his back to pull Ol’ Extractor from its harness and dropped it to his side. The receptionist was still working at the computer when the phone rang. She turned slightly to reach for receiver, bringing young Franklin into view. The beginnings of a scream was just about to tickle the first of her vocal chords when the massive spiked hammer came rushing up to catch her on the chin. The three inch spikes nailed her lower jaw to the roof of her mouth, her tongue all but shredded. Franklin smiled as he grabbed the top of the womans head with a massive hand and pulled the hammer towards him with his other. The receptionists jaw came free with a sickeningly wet crunch, her body collapsed, blood sprayed and several teeth fell to the floor.

'Fresh teeth! I love fresh big person teeth!’. Franklin’s bellow startled the two women in the waiting area who were oblivious until then. The young woman screamed as she saw the giant black shape reach down and gather the fallen teeth before putting them in his mouth. He walked over to her, his mouth working away as the teeth crunched and cracked as he ate.

The goth girl screamed and started to run but Franklin once again raised Ol’ Extractor and brought it swinging around to connect with her side. Ribs were shattered, flesh and sinew destroyed. She fell to the ground, dark blood pumping onto the clean white tiles.

‘Mmmm. You have nice new teeth!’ Franklin happily exclaimed as he knelt down by the girls ruined form. She mumbled and moaned, the pain overwhelming her senses. Franklin took hold of the top of her jaw and snapped a large chunk off, opening up a gaping hole in the side of her face. The dying girls scream was weak and pale, blood pouring down the back of her throat, choking her. The piece of jaw was already in Franklin mouth, his teeth and tongue busying away removing the teeth from the bone. He stood up, raised the hammer high and brought it crashing down on the girls head. He opened up a small pouch in his belt and began to gather up the teeth from the wrecked face of the girl.

The old lady had been watching all this, too petrified and shocked to move. Franklin looked at her and slowly stood up again, moving towards her grinning.
‘My favourite! Granny teeth for pudding!’
The old woman put her hand to her mouth then dropped it and reached out to Franklin, opening her palm as he approached. He looked down and cried, ‘NOOOOOO! That’s not fair! I want my pudding!’
He picked up the false teeth from the womans hand and threw them to the floor, ‘They don’t taste nice at all’, he explained to her before turning away and waving his hands in a strange signal. The dark cloud began to form above his head.
‘Whats the meaning of all this noise?’ Exclaimed the dentist as opened the door to the waiting room. Franklin spun round , smiling manically.
‘PUDDING!'

Coleman, the Gothic Teen, is really rocking out to his IPod. An especially heavy song begins. He cranks the volume to max and begins to headbang silently in his seat. His head throbs dangerously close to the large picture frame behind him with each motion.

Cheryl, the Receptionist, glances over her computer screen and scowls, annoyed at the amount of noise escaping his headphones.

Ethel, the Elderly Woman, continues reading her magazine, oblivious.

Cheryl, too distracted to work, decides to speak up. "Would you mind turning that down?" Coleman keeps headbanging without responding. She speaks up. "HELLO?" No response. Cheryl looks to Ethel for sympathy to her plight, but Ethel is still engrossed in her magazine, completely oblivious to her surroundings.

Cheryl lets out a heavy sigh, then a tube of toothpaste nearby catches her attention. She reaches for it. Her sleeve brushes a cup of coffee next to her keyboard. The cup teeters, but does not fall. She snatches the tube of toothpaste from the shelf and hurls it across the room. It narrowly misses Coleman's head and bounces off the large picture frame behind before falling harmlessly to the floor. Coleman looks up at Cheryl in shock just in time to see her gasp as the massive picture frame comes crashing off the wall and smashes into his head.

Coleman hits the floor, a bloody mess, surrounded by glass shards and tattered finger paintings remnants. Cheryl springs in to action. She hops over the desk to help, but lands on the tube of toothpaste. The cap and a stream of toothpaste erupt from the tube and plaster the back and cover of Ethel's magazine. Ethel remains oblivious to anything going on around her. Cheryl's ankle rolls on the tube of toothpaste and snaps with a sickening crack as she falls facefirst in to the shards of broken glass.

Cheryl, her face a bloodied mess and her ankle at a 90 degree angle, looks up to see a large shard of broken glass embedded in to Coleman's neck and a pool of blood growing quickly around his head. She looks the other way to see Ethel still reading her magazine. She gasps. "Please... Call an ambulance! I'm a hemophiliac!" Ethel continues reading with no response. Cheryl, losing more blood from her cuts than the average person would, begins to claw her way across the floor towards Ethel.

Just as she within an arm's length of Ethel's ankle, her body goes limp and she loses consciousness.

The clock on the wall spins quickly, signifying the passage of time. Twenty three minutes go by. The door to the back of dentist's area opens up and the dentist, Dr. Anderson, appears. Without looking up from the file he's got his nose buried in, he speaks in a loud, booming voice. "Mrs. Garrett!"

Ethel looks up and smiles sweetly at the dentist from behind very thick glasses. She folds her magazine and sets it down. She stands up, nearly stepping on Cheryl's pale frame. She makes her way across the waiting room, still completely oblivious to her surroundings, and follows Dr. Anderson in to the back.

The End.

The Goth Teen takes no notice of her, his eyes closed as he thumps his foot to the beat of his heavy rock music. Old Woman mutters about "youths today", before turning back to the window just as a crow flies towards it, slamming it self at the glass as another one tries to nudge it's way into the slight opening.

The End

An interesting read. You decided to go for a supernatural theme, which I enjoyed. You also didn't fall into the trap of giving Franlin a back story. The deaths were gruesome and entertaining, although somewhat similar. They were different enough to keep it interesting though. The characters acted in a very typical way. That is not a negative point. They came across as realistic.

I'm sorry to say, one very short phrase did let you down. You had the old woman reading a surfing magazine. This does not come across as an ordinary thing, however, seeing as it was your world, I let it slip. There are older women who are surfing enthusiasts. Overall, these are your marks.

Creativity: 3/3
Logic: 3/3
Perception: 1/3

The way you presented the deaths lost you certain marks, as did your title. The story of Franklin. You shifted the focus of the scene to character rather than deaths. Remember, you were tasked to focus on the murders. I understand though, that because your deaths were made by a person and not a chain of events, you had to describe him in some way. Still, the entire paragraph where you had him reject the old woman's dentures was not necessary. It was a good read, but you had already completed the task and you did not need that in there. I'm afraid that brought you down to 1/3 for perception.

Because you presented it as a story, it was good that you decided to wrap it up, but because you did it as a story you felt the need to complete the scene logically. That was what made writing it in that format so difficult. You gained marks for logic but lost them for perception. Overall, you scored 7/9. You should be proud of that.

The End.

You went for the safer option of still presenting it as a story but a series of events. This shifted the focus from characters to the deaths themselves. There was also a large amount of creativity in there. I enjoyed the final destination-esque scene. The deaths were gruesome enough and you met the task well.

Your characters did act in strange ways though. For one, the receptionist shouting at the teen twice then resorting to throwing toothpaste at him. It didn't come across as realistic. Why didn't she stand up and go over to him. They weren't exactly busy. Also, the older woman at the end and the dentist not noticing the bloody scene. And just like Scouse Mac you opted for a final scene which did not need to be there. These are you marks.

Creativity: 3/3
Logic: 1.5/3
Perception: 2/3

It was a very entertaining read and even though I didn't feel the receptionist would have thrown the toothpaste, when fitted into the death scenes it put things together nicely. The deaths were maybe not as gruesome as they could have been and even though the focus was the deaths, I feel most of that was the lead up. Still, you got good marks.

6.5/9

The End. :)

A very fun scene. You characters were quite realistic and I liked the twist of the goth teen being the evil one. The deaths were quite similar but were still fun and gory. You were also the only one to opt for killing the older woman, which was slightly refreshing.

Unfortunately, the idea of birds being murderers in large numbers and pecking out eyes has been done before, as you know, so you lost points for creativity there. I did like the way you had the birds controlled by somebody, however. But as with Scouse Mac, presenting it as a story put you in a tricky position. You had a person killing so you needed to explain his motives in some way, but you didn't want it too character focused. I think you dealt with this well by having him have very few motives, similar to Michael Myers. Your marks were,

Creativity: 1/3
Logic: 3/3
Perception: 2/3

You, like the others, chose to have a concluding paragraph showing what you made happen after the deaths, which was not needed. However, your one seemed to fit the best. However, your task was you creating two deaths in the scene, not telling a story. The idea is that you are sitting just outside of their world orchestrating events. Everything you made happen afterwards was not necessary. These were people you were controlling, and though I refer to them as characters in my marking, they were not. They were people in a world who you took control of. So, even though yours did fit the best, I could not justify giving you more marks than the other two for perception.

Your overall marks were 6/9. Be pleased, you did very well. And there are more challenges where each of you can do better...or worse. We will find out.

I'm sorry to say, one very short phrase did let you down. You had the old woman reading a surfing magazine.

Just thought that might be amusing and different. Didnt want to have her reading knitting monthly or some celeb magazine.

Still, the entire paragraph where you had him reject the old woman's dentures was not necessary. It was a good read, but you had already completed the task and you did not need that in there..

Thought Id best explain why she wasnt killed like the other two and emphasise the motivation behind Franklins actions. I understand your point about it being superfluous to the task though.

That was why writing it as a story was a difficult task. I thought all of you handled it very well though. There are many who would have come up very short.

This task will mostly be testing your logic and perception.

You are each in three identical worlds. These are worlds I created. You can feel pain, you feel all the pain you would normally. The only difference is that when you die, it isn't the end. You come back to my home realm. This is the situation you are in.

You are in the woods, but near a road. You have a small moped with you but the woods are too covered in roots and hills and thick trees that you would never get anywhere. Up a relatively steep hill is the road. The only way to take the moped up is to drag it. The hill is about 100 yards from bottom to top. The road is flat and straight but there is no activity on it.

Alternatively, a ten minute jog away through the woods is a small hut with various garden equipment in it. The shed is locked but with a good kick could easily open.

There are large branches on the ground.

About five miles down the road is a small gas station. You know the owners of it. There is no phone there but they do keep a gun. Alternatively, splitting off that road is a dirt track that leads to a dried out quarry filled with old cars and animals. The track is quite long and there are several turns in it, as well as it being very bumpy. It would be difficult for a moped to go along it.

In the opposite direction to the hut is a very shallow river/ stream. There are trees hanging over it. It's about a five minute jog. All the trees in the woods are climbable. There are lots of pine needles on the floor. Now, the reason you need to know all this is that you have a violent murderer on your trail.

You stole a very expensive antique vase from him. It is in you backpack. It's worth a lot but is also heavy. The man is a fast runner and good tracker. He's no more than five minutes behind you. He carries several knives and a shotgun as well as a pistol. He knows the area well and is very trigger happy. There is no investigating for him. If he sees a movement he shoots. He also has a car no more than two minutes from the road, although he wouldn't be able to reach it in less than ten minutes. He does have people at home though.

Your goal is simple. Survive. Explain to me your plan. This is not a story, you cannot describe what he does. You can describe what you'd hope he does and how it fits into your plan. You also need to describe why you did it. It would be wise to describe why you didn't choose certain paths. All of the information about the surrounding don't mean you are limited to them. You are in woods, you can go where you want and stay where you want. They are the only places of interest though. The rest is just hills and trees.

Describe your plan and your reasoning. You are looking for perception and logic. How you see the situation and the most intelligent moves to make. Included with my judging I will explain your fate. It will not serve to boost or lower your marks. If you die, it doesn't mean you failed. It is why you die or live that I'm interested in. If you make a move that is very predictable then he is likely to find you. If you have a very good plan but there is one very small flaw that leads to your death it may not matter.

You have until Saturday at 12:00pm EST to submit your answers both as a post in this thread and an unedited PM to me. Do not be late, you cannot afford it at this stage. There are 15 marks available in this challenge.

First thing I'd do is assess the situation completely.

Getting the moped up to the road would waste too much time. Ditching the moped and running down the road seems futile since the gas station is 5 miles away and that would take at least 25 minutes to run, plus I'd be out in the open with no cover.

Heading for the quarry just seems like it'd be a tremendous waste of time since it seems to be a dead end and there's nothing there but broken down cars and animals, neither of which would really help my situation in the slightest.

The Shed/Tool Hut may contain minimal items for self defense purposes, but really, what's a hedge clippers or even a chainsaw going to do against a guy with a shotgun?

After assessing the situation, I'd scan the ground, looking for a container of some kind. If I can't find one on the ground, I'd have to use the Mountain Dew bottle in my backpack. Since I've ruled out traveling the road, I have no use for the moped so I'd drain the fuel tank in to the container/Mt. Dew bottle. Ideally, I'd find a glass beer bottle laying around and create a molotov cocktail. If I can't find glass, plastic would have to suffice.

Once I had drained all the fuel (or as much as I needed to fill my container), I would ditch the moped approximately 30 seconds towards the Shed/Tool Hut (to lead the killer in the wrong direction) and then double back and head for the river.

Once I reach the river, I'd toss an empty pack of smokes downstream and the promptly start walking upstream, in the water along the riverbank. There are two reasons for this. 1 is that staying in the water makes a person much more difficult to track, 2 is that walking along the bank provides some cover from the trees lining the river.

Now if I am understanding the lay of the land correctly, the road and the river are perpendicular to each other so at some point they would intersect each other. For the road to go over the river, there would need to be a bridge. Since this is in the middle of dense forest, it's likely the bridge would be made of wood and not concrete and steel like bridges in more populated areas. I'd then cross the river, climb the bank and use my container of fuel to torch the wooden bridge. I'd then proceed to haul ass down the road, confident that he can't be approaching me from behind in his car. (For the record if the killer were to catch up to me before this point, the molotav cocktail would serve as my only line of defense and be chucked right in front of him, setting the forest ablaze while I haul ass in the opposite direction.) But for the sake of my plan, I'm going to assume he hasn't caught up to me yet and torch the wooden bridge.

As I run down the road, away from the Gas Station, Quarry and burning bridge I'd keep an eye out for any vehicles parked on the side of the road. If I happen to stumble across his car, the first thing I'd try to do would be hotwire it. If that didn't work, I'd search it for any stashed weapons and then let the air out of all of his tires and remove all his spark plugs. Then I'd continue running down the road. While I'm running down the road, I stick close to the edges, not down the middle in plain sight like a sitting duck. I'd keep moving until I came across oncoming traffic, which I'd flag down and get help from or until I hit the next local business. It could be miles, but with all the obstacles I've placed in his way (diversions to throw him off my trail, burning bridges to prohibit him from following in his car, possibly disabled vehicle if I found his car on the side of the bridge that I am currently on) I feel confident that I could make it out alive.

If the owner of a valuable vase was a violent murderer, I wouldnt steal it!

But since I have the first thing I would do is drop the vase. If its heavy and cumbersome then it will slow me down and with a killer on my tail there is no point carrying it. Id much rather live poor then get shot full of holes.

I think the key to survival is to travel light and fast so the moped can stay behind with the vase.

I would run in the direction of the stream and run through it downstream, although I would ensure a footprint was left in the mud pointing upstream. My thinking here is that going upstream will lead back into the hills and downstream is always to civilisation and that no trail would be left behind me. I would avoid all the local points of interest as these are going to be obvious choices for the killer to pick up a lost trail.

Should the stream meet the road, extreme caution would be used, using all available cover. At no point would I attempt to stop a car because, if the killer has people he could contact and a car available, there is no guarantee they wont have a connection. Avoid all contact with people and keep on running. Eventually, I would come to civilisation and hope he hasnt caught up with me

If he believes the vase is precious then hopefully he would have found it and gone home(doubtful) but if he has to carry it he would be slowed. Also, no matter how good a tracker and speedy, hes carrying alot of equipment (weight) and would have to cover alot of ground to ensure I never deviate from my track. My straight line speed should easily outpace his.

Apparently, I stole a vase from the wrong person (or I'm a terrible thief:p ), because now there is a psychopath after me! I'm not going to get away from this heavily equipped guy without incapacitating him because I'm unarmed and he is just too close behind me. Five minutes a not a lot of time and it seems like he would chase me no matter what. I don't have time to set up a trap yet, so I'm going to have to bide myself some time.

The first thing I need to do is ditch the vase. I can come back for it later and right now it's just slowing me down and it could get broken. With all the large branches and pine needles on the ground, I can very easily hide the backpack with the vase in it, off to the side. I can then drag the moped towards the hill to make it appear that I tried to ride it up the hill to the road, but realized it was futile and ditched it. I can then come back to where I started and shimmy up a tree before the guy comes into view. With all the pine needles on the ground, it will be hard to track my footprints and with him being so close behind, there's a real good chance that he'll run right past the tree and towards the road, especially with my ditched moped visibly in that direction.

After he's safely out of sight and hearing range. I'll jump down from the tree and high-tail it over to the tool shed. After I kick in the door I need to work quickly as he may have heard me, but that's okay since I want him to come back this way now. Every tool shed has a pick-axe or rake or something pointy that you use to till and I am going to use that to booby trap the door. I'm also assuming that there will be some rope, though if there isn't I could use part of my clothing if necessary.

So, I'm going to rig a trap where the pick-axe will swing down from above the door frame when the shed door is opened, the pointy end going into his face/neck and hopefully killing him. I'm going to grab some shears to take with me before setting the trap.

After setting the trap, I'm going to close the shed door so that it's just cracked. Then I'm going to cut my hand with the shears and smear blood on the door frame and drip some blood on the ground. Then grab a nearby large branch, half-bury part of it then snap it in half and scream bloody-murder! I'll smear some more blood from my cut hand on the protruding broken branch, use part of my clothing as a bandage, and then run and climb a tree (careful not to get blood on the trunk), several yards away. I will carry the shears with me to use as a back-up weapon.

The plan is that he will hear my scream (and hopefully the branch breaking), figure I got injured and come to finish me off. If he doesn't hear me, he will probably come this way eventually, figuring I may hide or look for a weapon here. When he approaches the shed he'll see the protruding bloody branch and a trail of blood going into the shed. Hopefully it will look like I injured my leg or something and dragged myself into the shed to nurse my wounds. He comes in after me, and eliminate himself. I can then take his car keys, retrieve my vase, locate his car, and drive away.

If this plan fails, either he dodges the pick-axe or comes to shed but doesn't go in, I will be far away enough (but still elevated enough to see the shed) that I can quietly slink down the tree and run to the gas station. There, I can retrieve the gun and fill an empty gas can or two with gasoline. I can hold up there until he appears and if I am unsuccessful in shooting him, I can sneak out the back, run a trail of gasoline and light it on fire, blowing the gas station and hopefully him with it. Ideally, I will be able to kill him and not have his body explode to steal his keys (and car), otherwise I'll will have go back for the moped and drag it to the road to leave the area. At any rate, I will retrieve the vase to take with me.

As for the stream, I don't see how that would help me. The quarry just seems too far away and a place to get cornered. Also, I don't know what kind of "animals" are there and they could be just as deadly as my stalker.

So, that's my grand plan and I hope I survive! :D

Getting the moped up to the road would waste too much time. Ditching the moped and running down the road seems futile since the gas station is 5 miles away and that would take at least 25 minutes to run, plus I'd be out in the open with no cover.

A very good choice. This was a good decision that bought saved you from making a possibly fatal mistake. Definitely logic and perception points scored here.

Heading for the quarry just seems like it'd be a tremendous waste of time since it seems to be a dead end and there's nothing there but broken down cars and animals, neither of which would really help my situation in the slightest.

Once again, you seemed to make a good choice on one of the locations. However, you neglected to consider the idea of shelter being there, and also you could have thought about the fact that sitting there would make you a bit of a sitting duck. Nevertheless, you scored logic and perception for this.

The Shed/Tool Hut may contain minimal items for self defense purposes, but really, what's a hedge clippers or even a chainsaw going to do against a guy with a shotgun?

Good use of logic, however, any weapon is better than no weapon.

This was a very good idea from you, and scored you a sufficient amount of creativity as well as logic points. You clearly thought about the situation in detail and I can tell you weren't just pulling ideas out of your rear end. Whether or not you had a mountain dew bottle or not would be down to luck and personality. I never stated you did but as with the other contestants there is some leeway to take into account yourself and how you would be. One thing I was confused about was how you would light the cocktail. It is possible you had a lighter but it is just as possible you don't.

Once I had drained all the fuel (or as much as I needed to fill my container), I would ditch the moped approximately 30 seconds towards the Shed/Tool Hut (to lead the killer in the wrong direction) and then double back and head for the river.

A good use of logic here. You don't use too much time moving the moped and it seems like an intelligent idea.

I don't see what the smokes had to do with it, but still, you made a logical decision to make yourself harder to track.

This was a very intelligent decision which gave you points in all three areas. You used logic and perception to consider the bridge and even what it would be made out of and how that could help you. You also have the cocktail as a backup plan in case all goes wrong.

A good idea about the car. You chose to state your back up plan intelligently and back up choices. Logic and creativity.

Throughout you made many intelligent choices to throw the killer off your trail and then to hinder him if he did pick up on you. You had back up plans and insurance policies. There were some assumptions in there but they were necessary as when you're in that situation you don't know everything and so you do have to make a plan for what is only a possible situation. You scored as follows.

Logic: 5
Perception: 4
Creativity: 4

Total: 13/15 A very good mark.

Now, let's see your fate.

The killer is hot on your trail when you come across the moped. You act fast and spare no time constructing your cocktail. You have to empty the mountain dew bottle and refill it which does use up some time but before long it's ready. You take another 30 seconds moving the moped along the path. Whilst pushing it over the bumps of the forest you leave some tracks which show a struggle pushing something up the hill. You promptly run away.

The madman arrives on the scene and sees the moped. There is liquid all over the floor and he is confused. He smiles and heads towards the shed, but after seeing no other signs of any movement, he guesses what you may have done and runs back.

You throw the smokes into the river and walk through it. It takes quite a while and the water is running against you. After a good minute and a half you reach the nearby bridge. You torch it completely with your molotov. The lighter you had has little fuel in it and takes some time to light.

The killer, now quite close, sees the flames up ahead and puts two and two together. He glares and pulls out his phone. He calls his wife and tells her to get in the car and wait quietly near the road.

You walk along the side of the road and everything seems to be fine. The killer is nowhere to be seen. Eventually, a car appears along the road. You try to flag it down but due to your filthy condition and the flames up ahead it merely reverses and heads back up the road. However, in the short amount of time it went passed you, you see the headlights of a car pulling out of the woods. You make a decision to stick within the trees and not flag down anymore cars as it only exposes you.

You Survive.

I would normally judge the other two pieces now, but this took a lot longer than previously expected and it's getting late. For the risk that it may make my judging ability slip and I am not fair to the other contestants, they will receive their judging tomorrow.

Thanks for the critique.

Just for reference, I smoke, so I always have a lighter handy. And I drink 3-4 Mt. Dew's a day so I wouldn't head in to the forest without one. I threw the pack of smokes downstream, then walked upstream in hopes the pack of smokes would lead the killer downstream thinking that's where I went. ;o)

But since I have the first thing I would do is drop the vase. If its heavy and cumbersome then it will slow me down and with a killer on my tail there is no point carrying it. Id much rather live poor then get shot full of holes.

A logical move with two benefits.

I think the key to survival is to travel light and fast so the moped can stay behind with the vase.

Once again, logical. You made a good decision here.

I would run in the direction of the stream and run through it downstream, although I would ensure a footprint was left in the mud pointing upstream. My thinking here is that going upstream will lead back into the hills and downstream is always to civilisation and that no trail would be left behind me. I would avoid all the local points of interest as these are going to be obvious
choices for the killer to pick up a lost trail.

A very good use of knowledge. You through the killer off track and made a smart decision to head towards civilization. You picked up Logic and perception points here. However, if the stream has no bends in it there is always the chance you will be seen.

Nothing I haven't said before. A logical move which would have been beneficial to you.

You garnered perception and logical points here. The dumping of the vase was a both a clever bid for mercy and a strategic move to hinder your tracker. You thought about his situation and made a smart move based on it.

Your aim was simple and you didn't waste too much time going for it. Your plan wasn't too elaborate and so there were less things that might fail. It wasn't very creative but was logical and you clearly thought about the landscape. A very well done piece.

Creativity: 3
Logic: 4
Perception: 4

Total mark: 11 It was a very good piece and you should not worry too much about the mark. The main reason you faltered was you weren't very creative in your moves. It's a difficult thing to balance logic and creativity but I felt it could have been done better. A bit more detail would have been useful as well.

Now, as for your fate.

You waste no time in dumping the vase and running. You give the tracker no extra time to gain lots of ground on you and you run straight to the river, leave several footprints going up stream then step into the water and wade like crazy to get away.

The killer, five minutes behind, follows your tracks and finds the vase, which he picks up and stores in his already quite full backpack. To fit it in, he has to sacrifice one of two small knives on the ground. After spending time making sure the vase is safe and not going to break he follows again, looking at the river. He sees the tracks going up stream and follows at pace by the side of the river.

You keep heading down the stream, being very wary not to be seen. You keep low and use the direction of the water to help your speed. You spend a long time going through the water but eventually you see lights ahead and run towards them.

The killer, meanwhile, has his wife waiting by the side of the road and is searching the quarry, trying to find you. Due to his wife being out in the car, you are lucky in that when you passed his house which would have been built near the stream, there is nobody there.

You eventually reach a small town and find a phone. You call a friend for help and they come and pick you up. The killer, now with the vase, calls off the search and returns home.

You survive.

Five minutes a not a lot of time and it seems like he would chase me no matter what. I don't have time to set up a trap yet, so I'm going to have to bide myself some time.

A good judgement of the situation which picked you up perception points. You made a decision for what your course of action should entail. Going against a violent killer isn't necessarily logical but that is only the initial idea. How you carry out the plan may be very logical.

A good perception of the situation. You examined your surroundings and decided to ditch the vase. This could help you in two ways. If the killer finds it he may be more influenced to call of the search, and if he doesn't, you can always retrieve it later. You didn't pick up points for the latter because it wasn't the focus of the task, but a smart move nevertheless. You also gained logic points for the use of the moped. Not so much the tree, because all he needs to do is look up and see you. But the use of the moped makes this less likely.

If he did hear you, you sacrificed some time but you made a good judgement call on the shed and set a course of action that would get the killer out of your way for good. Perception points gained.

So, I'm going to rig a trap where the pick-axe will swing down from above the door frame when the shed door is opened, the pointy end going into his face/neck and hopefully killing him. I'm going to grab some shears to take with me before setting the trap.

A bit more detail as to how you plan to set the trap would have been good, but it was still a logical move, and very creative.

Once again, very creative. I think luring the killer into the shed is a good idea and the plan itself seems relatively easy to set up, and even if certain things go wrong, such as the branch making a noise before it's buried, it doesn't hinder the plan. You were also logical in your choice of taking a back up weapon.

A good plan that doesn't require too much. It is easy to set up and likely to work. You thought about the location and the killers reaction to events. There are certain flaws in the plan but you perceive the situation well and you were both creative and logical.

I wasn't too impressed with the backup plan. Once the killer knows you set a trap, and he already knew you were in the area due to your scream, he would be unlikely to miss you drop down a tree and run to a gas station. Also, getting there means either traveling five miles down a road or even further through a difficult forest landscape. There is also the chance that the gas station owners are pally with the killer and even that he called ahead.

As for the stream, I don't see how that would help me. The quarry just seems too far away and a place to get cornered. Also, I don't know what kind of "animals" are there and they could be just as deadly as my stalker.

A good judgment of the area. Perception points gained.

So, that's my grand plan and I hope I survive! :D

A good, creative plan, which was more about eliminating the target than fleeing and hoping that he didn't find you. The actual trap seemed informed and intelligent, as the killer, with a shotgun, would be unlikely to fear the shed. However, there is always the chance he shoots through the door, fearing you have a weapon. In this case, the backup plan seemed likely to fail.

Creativity: 4
Logic: 3
Perception: 4

Total mark: 11 It was a good plan but it failed to fully excel. The backup plan wasn't very good and the decision to kill the killer would have got him out of your hair but the fact that he's trigger happy and has a shotgun makes it seem a bit hopeful.

Now, as for your fate.

You quickly cover the vase in branches and needles, then pull the moped up the hill. It's hard work but you manage it. You climb high up a tree and sit there as still as possible.

The killer arrives on the scene and runs straight past the tree to the moped, which he inspects. He pulls out his phone and calls his wife to come out in the car. Then, he crosses the road to have a look in the woods over there.

Once out of sight, you drop down from the tree and quietly run to the shed, kicking in the door. You set up a trap which involves the pickaxe. It takes a lot of time but eventually you get it right. You break the branch and use the sheers to cut yourself and set the blood, then climb up the tree.

The killer hears the distant sound of the shed door opening and calls his wife, telling her to make her way slowly along to road towards the shed. He hears the branch snap. He runs to the shed too, not taking too much time to arrive. The blood is very fresh and so he assumes that the injury was just sustained. He warily approaches the shed and fires the gun through the door. Weakened by the kick earlier, it swings open and the pickaxe swings down. Being suspicious, he jumps back and only receives a minor injury from the pickaxe. Angered, he starts firing randomly around,

You wait in fear up the tree, many shots coming close to you. Sticking to your plan, you carefully try to slink down the tree. He sees you and fires, but is out of shells. As he reloads, you jump at him with the shears, making a good shot. You fatally wound him and search him for his keys. You hurry back to where you left the vase and retrieve it. As you walk away, proud and confident, not worrying about the killer anymore, you are suddenly taken aback by the loud bang and pain in your back. You fall to the floor. The killers wife, with his shotgun, stands over you and finishes the job.

You die.

The reason you died was due to a series of small events that built up. By giving the killer the impression you took to the road, he called out his wife. She was ready in the car. Then, when he heard the noise, he called his wife, but told her to go slowly in case you tried to double back. Your plan to kill the killer with the pickaxe failed because of his wariness, but you did injure him, allowing him to kill you. You took his keys but not his gun, not thinking you would need it. His wife, who took her time, arrived and found her husband. She took the gun and ran through the woods, knowing you hadn't taken to the roads because she didn't see you. When she found you, you were confident, and so weren't quite as aware of your surroundings. However, it was a good plan, and would have worked if it wasn't for these small occurrences.

It was a shame, yes. I would not have expected anybody to think that far into it, after all, it was a plan you made whilst being chased by a madman. The main plan itself was very well thought out.

Which is why I went for the plan I did, just give it toes away from him. The simpler it is, the less that can go wrong.

The more messing around, setting up traps and laying too many false trails, is time he could be catching up. Its unsubtle but I think just peggin' it is the best solution.

Yeah, the initial plan was from watching WAY too many horror movies and "The Most Dangerous Game" was immediately brought to mind. :P The back-up plan was a little shoddy, but that's because I didn't really expect to need it (and didn't). I didn't know to expect a gun-wielding wife, though. Had I known there would be accomplices, I probably would have been more careful and adjusted the plan accordingly. Still, I felt like I succeded since I killed the guy and got the vase, getting killed is just a minor detail. :p

It is time for the third and final challenge of this round. This will test your creativity and logic and perception. There will be ten marks available in all criteria, so a lot rests on this. Now, let me tell you a little bit about James Daniels.

James was born on the 3rd of August 1970, making him currently 38. He was born in the small American town of Little Teaside to Anne and John Daniels. They lived in a three bedroom house. They gave birth to another child, Miles, on the 14th December 1976. The two brothers got on well.

At school, James was an average student, but was well known for his sense of humor. Most of the teachers liked him and he finished school with Cs and Bs. He had many friends, but his best friend was a boy who happened to be named Daniel James. They got on very well and regularly went around each others houses and played practical jokes. Their favorite film genre was Comedy, although Daniel was also into Horror.

James decided not to go to college, but Daniel did. James got a safe little job at a local tourist ride, a large bungee thrill ride (http://k43.pbase.com/g4/78/410678/2/62408005.CWJbxc71.jpg). He made enough money that he bought a regular sized apartment in town. It was the 24th August 1991 that he met Judy. She had a go on the bungee seat and he was so attracted to her that they went out to dinner.

It turned out she was already seeing somebody, but she broke it off to be with James. Within a year she had moved in and they were in a very comfortable relationship. They decided not to have children until they were a bit older.

Now, back to Daniel. While he was at college, he made new friends, as did James. Eventually, the two stopped really contacting each other, apart from the odd funny email or Christmas cards. Daniel got a job as a computer technician in a city about two hours away from James. While he was there, he was miserable. He had a bad house, very few friends he got on with really well and he was just all around lonely. So, in February 1994 he came back to Little Teaside and approached James.

James and Judy had recently started renting a two bedroom house in a nice location. When Daniel came back, James couldn't say no. Daniel started living at the house where he remained until 1996. All three of them got on well and it was a fun time, but Daniel eventually got back on his feet and bought an apartment across town with his new girlfriend Caron. James and he remained friends.

James and Judy went on to have a daughter who they named Lucy on the 5th September 1999. They stayed in the town and lived in the same house. James' parents were still both alive and got on well with James and his new family. James was in a good job, now manager of the Red Lobster. Judy was working as a waitress at the same Red Lobster. Lucy went to the same school that James did and was getting good grades. James wasn't in any debt.
None of his family had any illness.

That is why the 2:46pm on the 4th of November 2005 was a strange day. James walked into the gas station where he had once worked and shot two customers and a cashier. He they casually walked out and drove away. He went to his daughters school at 3:00pm to pick her up as usual but the police arrived and arrested him.

This happened three times in three different worlds. Now, it is your job to explain why. What happened in his life to make him do this terrible crime? You can use as much of the information as you want, and you can create completely new events that happened in between the described ones. However, those written are fixed.

Be aware, if you use practically none of the above events you stand to lose out on creativity marks. As interesting as all the new events are, if you ignore the described events then you are not showing any ability to work with what you are given. Perceive events carefully and make sure that their effects and the actions of people are logical. A lot rests on this, for the person with the least total marks will be trapped forever in the solitude of limbo whilst the other two venture back to the world of the realms...

You have until Friday at 12:00pm EST to submit your answers both as a post in this thread and as a PM to me. Don't be late...
