Some of you know that I've been known to dabble in music. I was a singer/songwriter before I was an actor of a screenwriter.
Lately I've gotten the itch to do some recording, but I'm not really into the songwriting these days, I want to record an album of covers - horror covers. I'm planning on recording them all as simply as possible - ascoustic guitar and voice - like Springsteen's "Nebraska" or Cash's "American Recordings".
I've already worked up cool versions of:
"Skulls" - The Misfits
"Pet Semetary" - The Ramones
"Shout at the Devil" - Motley Crue (as a rockabilly rave-up!)
I tried "Number of the Beast" but it just doesn't work on acoustic guitar and "Dream Warriors" is just to annoying. I've written a few originals ("Long Pig", "There Coming to get you, Barbara") but they aren't very good.
I need 7-10 more for an album. I need suggestions!
I love punk/metal songs because they're entire texture changes when you go solo-acoustic on them.

No love for the Monster Mash?
Alice Cooper has some good ones: He's Back, Feed My Frankenstein...maybe Dead Babies, but that one's pretty calm to start with.

I don't know if you have heard "Half Japanese" but they had an album called "Bone Head" it had some great horror themed songs on it. "Zombie eye" and "He walks among us" are two of my faveorites, that album is ripe for picking a horror themed cover. get your hands on it.

Some Roky Erickson tunes would be killer.
Definitley mix it up with some of your own shit because a soly covers album is a little hollow.

it'll probably be half and half, but I'm having an extremely difficult time writing songs these days - all THAT creative juice is going into writing screenplays, short stories and comic books
and Roky Erickson is a loon - dig him

He mixed them up with his own stuff they weren't 100% cover tunes.

Yeh he rules. Burn The Flame from the Return Of The Living Dead s/t would sound killer acoustic especially since its such a dark tune.
You might find yourself inspired after learning some more covers.
Can't wait to check it out seeing as I dug the other stuff you had up on Myspace.

You should definitely add Iron Maidens "Still life" inspired by a short horror story called "Genius Loci" http://www.eldritchdark.com/writings...78/genius-loci , Clark Ashton Smith (1893-1961).
And when you've done reccording it, you should write the script for a movie adaption, coz it could be big. ;)

Entombed - Left Hand Path:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdL-wNwXPCg
Uses samples from the Phantasm score. Integrated really well.
It's death metal, though, so you have to acquire the taste as they say.

I don't really think that's a horror song. Great song, but not horror...

"Lucy Belle" by Faun Fable gives me shivers. It scares me, makes me think of an old lady who's gone mad and thinks she's a dog.....O_o

Ok just a opinion but take a look to the lyrics:
"Fast approaching Monsters, marching in a row
Grab what slips your mind & what your memory won’t hold
Run, darling run.
I'll stall them if I can
You’ll escape & I'll be left rotting on the vine
Run, darling Run.
Ill stall them if I can
Youll escape & I'll be left rotting on the vine
Avert the childrens eyes
Forget left untold
Don’t look back to see
The blood River in the Road
Get revenge with my Blood
River in the Road"
