Back in the day, the miniseries "V" was something of a cultural phenomenon. Would an updated miniseries have the same impact today?

No way.
V was revolutionary. It brought something novel and fresh to the sci-fi stable, and many movies made after this series tried to copy the same premise ideas from it. The final episode ends abruptly, so I am guessing the show ended prematurely. But overall, it was a blast.
The cast - Robert Englund, Michael Ironside, Marc Singer et al were wonderful. They did pretty well with the limited budget they had (as is evident by the frequent repeated sequences in some of the episodes), and I dont think a remake would do well.
That being said, I wouldnt mind to see a continuation from where it left off. If done well like BSG, it might turn out to be unexpectedly good. I haven't caught the sequel to this yet.

I loved this series.
It was recently repeated here on the Sci Fi channel and, to my wifes annoyance, I insisted we watch it.
There is always room for a new take on the concept, a more gritty and darker version similar to how Battlestar Galatica was redone

I suppose BSG was what I had in mind when I thought about a "V" remake. The difference is that the original BSG was a fairly weak series based on a good premise, and the new series brought strong writing to the premise. "V" had already capitalized on its premise.

Im pretty sure there was a second season with alot more episodes. The aliens returned when they became resistant to the red dust.
Only ever seen some of those episodes once, not sure how much airtime it recieved over here.

I think it could work.
Think tinman. It seemed along the lines of a remake at first but bought a lot more to the table...I could picture V being remade in such a way, but also as a continuation, lets say similar events occur but a little later down the line it could be revealed that it had happened before, and maybe everyone was brainwashed/memory wiped as a final attack/retreat tactic...of course the later introduction of any of the "old" characters dismissed as crazy would be the one that it didn't work on...etc...and yeah...just a basic idea but I think there's a lot of ways it could work.
The original...I was a little kid when that was on, when it first broadcast the first thing I remember seeing was someone eat a rat? ha...scared me. I later bought the entire series + the final battle or whatever...still rock solid IMO.

I remember bits and pieces from when I was a kid. I was going to hire this the other day I might give it a spin this weekend.

Yeah, I own V. Ever since I was a kid me and my mom have loved it. I need to watch it again, but my favorite was always the big lizards in the dream.

I remember watching this when i was a kid. Awesome. Only remember bits and pieces about it, though i do know that it was a guinea pig that the lady ate that caused a big uproar.
I think it would be a pretty awesome series revamped a la BSG. This series is old enough, that i think a lot of people will have forgotten most of the plot surprises from the original.

Very, very interesting. It was only a matter of time before they re-did this, especially since BSG.
Will keep an open mind and hope for the best

Folks from some of the past few years best sci-fi are involved with the new one, I can't wait to check this out - I've ALWAYS thought how much I'd love to see a re-imagining or sequel to the original done with todays technology...

I actually ended up reading an old article online about V last week. I've never seen a single episode, but it sounds like fun, hopefuly I can catch a rerun like Souce did.

The dvd boxsets of the two miniseries that came out are available quite cheaply.
The first one is "V", the second is "V - the final battle". It's a decent sci-fi series to own, definately check it out if you havent seen it.

Totally agree, I got the whole lot in a box set recently very cheaply online(play.com I think). Its not a risky 'blind buy' if you're not familiar with the series.

The remake of the 80s show V is coming out and having watched and loved the old show i was curious as to what people thought of the new one. Its not exactly horror but still is worth sharing opinions on. There was an earlier season and wanted to know if it was worth watching it first if they did the remake justice.
