Older horrors were made without F/Xs or F/Xs were very poor. That films, in my opinion of course, were terrifing as fuck. No F/Xs, no colour, old horror films frightened very effectively. Directors tried scared the viwer differently than now doing it. "Those" films have uniqe mysterious climate and full of darkness. Sometimes a little comicaly:) but first of all horryfing.

Today, most of directors, in my opinion of course, have no idea what make good horror movies. No identity-film-makers produce identical movies. This is way to nowhere. Any thoughts??

Good thing there are effects like these (http://www.art-f-x.com/MP.html), or horror movies would suck

I for one am not a fan of CGI. It usually ends up looking totally fake.

dont get me wrong I love makeup. but i do think CG has its place. take underworld (think what you like about the film were just talking about the effects). While the bullet time shit was pretty hoaky, I really admire the fact that they made that movie 80% makeup 20% cg when they could have done the whole thing in cg. I just think that shows some appreciation for the art. Overall I think that CG should just be done to accentuate, not replace.

I have to agree with nightbreed here to a point, but not all movies would be rewarded by the use of cgi to help with the effects. This is one reason that I liked House of 1000 corpses, he kept the effects to real stuff, make-up and the like without the use of cgi and still produced quite the elaborate sets and characters. (Dr. Satan for instance :D ). So I suppose it just depends on what sort of movie it is and what appeal you are going for overall.

Why go CGI when there are people like the KNB effects group?

perfect example of how cgi can inhance a scene without taking it over. interview with a vampire. the scene where louis "dies" and comes back as a vampire. if you know what im talking about Im sure youll agree. if you dont remember it clearly watch it again.

Night of the Living dead is a good old one.... no music... god it still freaks me out... it was the great horror flick of it's time and still is today.

Nightbreed is right somtimes it is nedded and used effectifly but somtimes it just sucks and is not nedded. I'm not fully aganist cgi but lets face it The Thing would not have been as good if it used cgi instead of makeup effects.

KNB increasingly use CGI too.
