This is the one movie that I want most for my collection and I think I'm going to have a lot of trouble finding it. I've checked in some stores like Best Buy but they didn't have it, and I'm sure if they did it would be a version that was cut to pieces. So I guess I have a couple of questions...
~ What store would I have the greatest shot at find the DVD?
~ What is the most uncut version of the DVD?
~ Is the movie in Italian? I pretty sure that it was about american students but wasn't sure.
~ Anyone live near upstate New York that might have saw it at some store because that's where I live?
~ If you have saw it, how much does it go for?
I guess if I don't find it eventually I'll have to check out ebay but that's not always reliable.

I know of a place in New York City (if you live in NY/NJ) it's called Kim's Video on St. Mark's Place. if any place has it, It'd be at Kim's. If you don't live near there, try b-movie.com. They have it for $30.00 but its a Region 2 PAL DVD and it usually takes them awhile to actually send it out. Hopefully that helped you out a bit.

I pirated the uncut version off of Kazaa, and no it's not in Italian. If you did that, you could get it for free and then burn it to dvd or cd-rom.

Cannibal Apocalyse AKA : Cannibals on the streets , invasion of the flesh eaters , virus was more of a Apocalypse Now / Cannibal ripoff , staring John Saxon , The American Martial Artist in " Enter The Dragon " who after the Vietnam war , finds out that a couple of his buddies ( that he saved from a prison camp ) are............CANNIBALS  - good dopey movie to watch ( lots of blood , flesh eating and a fair amount of gun shooting ) ..just remember to turn your off your brain before you watch it , and all will be well with the world ;)

okay, now this is new... I'm always complaining that I never get to see anything because I live in Finland, but now it seems that it's the other way around...
I have Cannibal Holocaust on VHS and I think it's quite easy to get it on your hands in Finland. My version is an "strong uncut" one, so it should all be there and I have to say, that Ruggero Deodato does a pretty good job with gore. there's lot of great scenes: a bunch of women rips a fetus out of a preganant girl, few rapes, somebodys penis gets cut off....great stuff. a rather good splatter, I would say

Vipco realease cheap horror in the uk on DVD
hmmm Zwoti, some of that is true but then again they only cost £4.99 so its pretty dam cheap and any cuts will be bbfc(UK censor) not the company! And I could care less about extra's I'll leave them for the people who enjoy buffy box sets and cry because they are disapointed by the latest matrix movies!

ps. I have removed the lhyperlink as I don't want to be suspected as a secret vipco agent promoting my vhs transfer skills!

hey now, there is no need to swear. as a serious horror fan, these cowboys are the LAST people you should be buying things from. they use old vhs recording for their dvd transfers, most of the films are fullscreen, no extras and cut to ribbons. their version of cannibal holocaust is missing over 5 mins.
if you honestly think they are worthy of plugging, poor you.
if you are anyway involved with them, shame on you.

In fact the cannibal holocust cuts you speak of are there because of animal cruelty in the film, where live animals where killed to increase the realism of the film, so I doubt any UK company has these in or would want too!

it took them 2 releases to get the burning release uncut, then they release a horrible fullscreen version. it's because of these people that there won't be a decent version of zobie flesh eaters available in the uk.

I see what your saying, im not here to defend vipco, but I do prefer to pay £4.99 rather than 19.95 because of extras, plus you have to remember these are old movies and they would have to remaster them at a substantial cost to get the digital quality anamorphic versions you are thinking of!
Its like this I bought Iron Monkey(I like kung fu classics as well as horror classics) for 4.99, now because he corrographed the matrix a version is out with features etc £19.99! I dont mind features but there not worth quadroupling the price!!!

i can't complain over the price, yet somehow they did manage to get their hands on anchor bay's city of the living dead (including the extras). so why this one and not the others? personally i prefer a complete version of the film so if it means paying more then i will.
yuen woo ping is a genius, i hope you are talking about the donnie yen version as he is brilliant. i prefer heroic bloodshed but martial arts is close behind.

yeah I love heroic blood shed too, to be hounest im just a b-movie/cult movie fan anything from any genre or country thats interesting! What im trying to point out is the bbfc makes cuts not video companys (with the exception of blockbuster video), these are obscure low budget movies and the full version is best! except with cannibal holocaust where they have no choice but to cuts and certain child abuse and rape in movies must be cut from movies although im not for censorship there can be times when a movie production has gone too far! vipco is liscensing versions like prism and medusa do, its not like there warner brothers!
I love £4.99 classics as thats how you discover the stuff that no one else has seen! also to replace my old vhs collection cost is an issue as its going to cost thousands of pounds even at budget prices!
Ps. also alot of the footage in cannibal holocust is like 8 or 16 millemeter theres only so much they can do to improve that anyway! Plus the film is not cut that badly considering all that footage of executions in the middle is real!!!!!

I was out at Ameoba Records in L.A. last week and I was lucky enough to find Cannibal Holocaust completely uncut and uncensored on VHS. (Yes, it includes all of the live animal butchering scenes, which were, at times, almost too much to watch, especially the turtle, yuck!..) Which brings me to a question... Does anyone know exactly how really the footage actually is? I mean... that guy's dick getting cut off looked about as real as anything I've seen.
Today, my fellow horror buff buddy and I watched it for the first time. We were both in agreement that it is wihtout a doubt THE hardest core movie either one of us had ever seen and we watch tons of horror.
This movie is so disturbing that only a handful of diehard horror fans will find it 'entertaining'. The general public should never see this movie in its uncut version.

As a matter of fact I own this film of DVD and VHS. I actually also have interviews with Rggero Deodato, the director of the film. I would say that yes it is for sure one of the most graphicaly violent films I have ever seen. And i am posative my versions are totaly uncut. I love this movie...not for the gore...but for the creativity and effort that went into it. I also own Deodato's first cannibal film known as Jungle Holocaust. Similar story...not as violent...over all, not as good. But still a good cannibal film. Anyway. It is true that these films are difficult to come by. keep checking ebay, because I have two coppies of the film on DVD and i plan to put one up on ebay soon. I will put a reminder post on horror.com when I do this...just in case any of you are interested.
If anyone has any questions about this movie...ask me...I have seen it a few times now and consider myself to be a student of Deodato's work.

I had a copy of this film in the late eighties...A true classic. It is without doubt one of the most violent western horrors ever made. The central idea of the plot, and the way it developed into the cannibals themselves fleeing from exploitation was genuis, as good as anything Romero or Argento could come up with.
I think it was issues of genuine animal cruelty, and child exploitation that led to the censors reaction to it in the UK. Films have included documentary footage of such things, and passed the uk censor, but never for purely entertainment value.
Although they are two entirely different films, I would rank Holocaust alongside The Living Dead At Manchester Morgue, as being well thought out, well developed, and well executed rollercoaster rides.
...and that bit when they took doggie bags...now that was just genuis.

The human execution newsreel footage in the middle is real!!!!
...but the film itself is just well done and so it ran into sensors who could not be sure if it was real!
... this is a powerfull movie!!!!

I didn't think the movie was that great. I got all excited from the hype surrounding it saying, "MOST GRUESOME MOVIE EVER!...etc etc" and when I got it, there was penty of gore and nudity but it wasn't scary. I thought it was a horror movie but something more along the lines of mondo cane/ faces of death flick.
Oh yeah, the DVD with the black background and the skull in front I believe is the most uncut edition of the film. The same company rereleased it as a 2 disc special ed. w/ Painted cover art of a cannibal ripping some meat off w/ his mouth.
Try ebay or some mom and pop video stores because any chain dvd retailer is not going to have it. Jungle Holocaust is sold at Frys Electronics tho.
