There are ones that definately aren't and are just people joking around, but Gore, Shatner and Arnie are legit.

It's one of the only places to get semidirect contact with artistic professionals. Monitoring one's own press and organizing it is invaluable.

Doc have you added yourself to wefollow.com yet? It's a neat site where you can pick 3 key words as categories so it is easier for people to find you on twitter. Figured it might be a nice thing to do, try and boost publicity.
I'm still thinking of what to use as my keywords. Horror, web and student seems likely.

I got 10 new followers in an hour after signing up. Only problem is that a lot of people follow you, and then un-follow if you don't follow them back. :(

So follow them back :D
The only ones I unfollow are people that are clearly just trying to advertise something. I got some business card company trying to follow me and I was like "gimme a break, why would I want to follow that?"
But overall, I follow anyone that follows me. I figure if you care about to see what I am up to, it's the least I can do. Some random peoples' twitters can be very entertaining.
It's all part of the spirit.

Yeah that's what I mean. I have some legitimately cool/nerdy/funny people adding me. Quite a few of them are advertising themselves. This isn't a bad thing but I will only follow someone I'm interested in. A few bloggers from horrorfilmag and evilontwolegs added me, and I added back cause they have a lot to say, thay are social and retweet/@reply me once in a while. Others are trying to advertise their web design firms etc. and aren't keeping my attention so I dont add them and they unfollow me becayse all they were looking for was a high follower count so they will be higher on sites like wefollow. It can be a popularity contest but I have over 50 followers without resorting to that nonsense so I just think it's stupid.

I signed up for one reason and one reason only. One of my favorite bands is on tour right now and the day of each show, they put people's names who respond to their twitters on the guest list.
So I signed up to get on their guest list when they come to Minneapolis. I have never posted a twitter and I don't follow anyone except that 1 band. (Yet for some reason, someone is following which just seems fucking weird. Why would someone follow a person they don't know who hasn't ever posted anything? Creepy.)
No offense to all of you that are actively using it, it just seems so lame to me.
Twitter: "Joe is going to the store, then to dinner."
Bwind22: "Oh really? Who gives a shit?"

Yeah I know it sounds really cheesy and everything but "I had one before it was cool". I kinda hate the people that Ellen Degeneres has brought to Twitter.
I watch a lot of techTV, read a lot of blogs on upcoming web applications, watch a lot of diggnation etc. I'm a nerd. I like twitter because it's easy. I can post on twitter and it automatically posts on facebook so I hit a nerd target audience and my friends in one shot. I can post on blip.fm and that autoposts to twitter and then to fb, so I can send music to a music nerd/regular nerd and my friends. I can use twitter from my cell and it eliminates the cost of facebook mobile.
Twitter has come in handy in emergency situations. i was lost once and knew the person looking for me had access to the internet but not a phone, so I posted on twitter about being lost and he got the message and found me. Same thing when I have my cell and dont want to waste money texting 10 people about plans, I just post to twitter and it can forward to them for me.
There are a lot of smart people on twitter that I wouldn't normally have access to when I need help with computer problems. I had a bunch of people trying to help me over twitter with a rendering issue I had yesterday in 3D Studio. I get publicity when it comes to my ideas, and finding web design related followers now will help me when I want to start a business.
Endless possibilities, just depends how in depth your internet use is I guess.
