I really don't know what to think about this movie. Johnny Depp was excellent as usual, definitely Stephen King Style all the way, but a little too much like the Dark Half only not as good!
I was kind of disappointed here!
The Dark Half explained a lot more about the characters in the movie. Anyone read this? Was originally The Secret Garden.

Actually, the original story was a novella titled "Secret Window, Secret Garden" in Four Past Midnight. I read it a long time ago, and nearly forgot about it. When I saw the preview to Secret Window, John Turturro's character saying "You stole my story" pricked something in the back of my mind. I turned to my wife and said: "I read that story somewhere. That's a story." So, I can't say how the movie compared. I really don't remember that much of the story. As far as the movie went, I was disappointed myself. I enjoyed Depp's performance, but I found it too predictable. There were no shocks, no thrills. Apart from Depp, I found the film to be quite the bore.

I read that book a long time ago! No wonder I kept getting deja vu through the whole thing! I really can't recall it though, and this is one of the few I don't own.
And it was boring, my husband was asleep after the first half hour!

this one reigned in as an "OK" in my book...but only an ok.....Depp did well in the role he was given, and the actor playing "shooter" was great..
the story, however, was not all that great....like nine9's hubby, I was close to sleep for most of this one....

If the only adverb in your vocabulary is 'hella' then STFU n00b. It's not in the dictionary.
I rented Secret Window last night, but I fell asleep right after Tuturo said "you stole my story". Not because it was boring, it was 2:30 am. I read some reviews that say Depp is the only good thing, and so far Im diggin the accent. Hopefully it doesnt get boring...

I rented this yesterday, was going to buy it last week, glad I didnt because I was sorely disappointed. 2 many parallels to The Dark Half (which is a movie and book that I love). I mean George Stark and John Shooter are both from Mississippi. I think that King is running out of ideas for stories and starting to rehash is old stuff with minor changes with the hopes that the unsuspecting viewer wont catch the similarities.
Why the Hell dont they make a film about The Long Walk, now that would be a good flick.

Johnny Depp was amazing and perfect for the role, and the movie was very good. However, and I am sure many of you can agree with me, once you have read or seen movies by Stephen King, you come to expect the "big twist" endings. Stephen King is one of the best authors ever, but you know that the twist is coming. So right from the beginning I was doubting what was really happening in the movie. The one thing I thought that they could have done is *SPOILER!!!* Johnny Depp should have had the voice of Shooter. Other than that I liked it completely...which I think is sort of obvious.

I just watched this the other night and I thought it was pretty cool.
I loved the way it was all kinda in his head, although I don't know if Johnny Depp suits being a murderous son of a bitch. Oh well the cheating couple deserved what they got. I loved it when he got smacked in the face with a shovel lol.

I think I'd like to blame my old friend Stephen King for writing yet another one of his little biographies. Looky Looky .. another tortured writer. Oh hey, a suprise .. a made up character ! holy smokes I didnt see that one coming !

King wouldn't be King without writing about writers - he can still engross the reader by masterfully (and it seems naturally) tapping into new interesting elements of the psyche with most of his attempts, and if all we had to read was Dean Koontz's daft rats, Clive Barker's pretentious nightbreeds or Anne Rice's snotty vampires then I'd give up on horror fiction altogether.

I love that movie lol.. can't help it::
"I know I can do it," Todd Downey said, helping himself to another ear of corn from the steaming bowl. "I'm sure that in time, every bit of her will be gone and her death will be a mystery... even to me."
heh heh heh heh
anyone seen the animatics? they're fucking hilarious! a sims depp character who looks like he belongs on the game for n64 goldeneye molests the corn at the end, and the corpses have white bodies. By the way, that's one haught pic of king lol.

TSecret Window was exactly what I expected. So I wasn't disappointed, nor overjoyed. Just another ho-hum daptation of another ho-hum story.

Ann Rice's snotty vamps are better ( until/including Memnoch) than anything King has in his arsenal. Especially in the last 15 years. And any King movie adaptation best have a very capable director and screenwriter or it will be shit. If King is involved in one aspect of production, the movie just plain sucks...

His recent short story collection Everything's Eventual is a good one - rather than rely on solid mythical creatures (like Rice and her vampires) or whacky surrealism and monsters (like Barker) King's stories can still take the reader into unpredictable territory without resorting to "clever" techniques (witness the new added control on the vehicle in The Tommyknockers: "Left, Right and... up?".
From Everything's Eventual, read The Death Room - simple, daring, and immensely satisfying.

i havent read Rice but I used to read Barker ... he was once ok but he never knew how to end a story. He became very King-ish in his style too.
I think the problem might be in the genre itself .. its hard to develop new ideas - everything has been done over and over again .. sometimes with slight variations .. or sometimes its a direct rehashing (Stephen King).
I stopped reading horror years ago .. i couldnt stand it any more. The only writers who broke the mold usually did so by churning out some incomprehensible personal nightmare that was impossible to relate to. Or they combine trace elements of horror with the other genres which is at least a little more origional and entertaining.
I've read Herbert, MCCammeron (sp. ?) Strawb, and a couple dozen other authors and i keep seeing the same old crap over and over again.
But Stephen King ... i'll never read another word from that guys keyboard again.
I couldnt get more than 20 pages into that smug piece of shit he wrote with strawb last (bleak house, or dark house or something like that)
Never again ...

dont get me wrong, the actors all do fine jobs -
but the big twist was obvious from the first knock on the door.
maybe it's different if you are a younger person ...but when you hit my age and you've had an active interest in all things horror ...
you end up seeing the same shit over and over again and you get sick of it.
thats why i am so fond of the books/movies/music that turns the genre on its ear .. gives us a suprise for a change.

Stephen King has some great books. I'm reading Desperation at the moment it's pretty good so far. I haven't really read anything of his since the Dark Half. I usually try to avoid all the movie adaptions of his work, they just seem to look like a load of shit latley.

I have to disagree...
I'm not into any of King's stuff really, yea carrie was pretty cool but not too good.
I think with this movie, for soeone who is not used to kings writings or movies, the movie keeps you guessing, whch a lot of good movies do. It leaves incredible twists that throw off what ever ur guess was for the movie. I don't care who you are, that was a good movie and it was not a role you really expected Depp to play because of prior films, but he was great and I commend his role.

IT- saw the movie before reading the book, hated both
Carrie - Saw the movie before reading the book, hated both
The Shining- Saw the movie(s) before reading the book. Hated the book. The Jack movie was good because it was Kubrik.
Secret Window- Started the movie and started the book on the same day. Both are boring.
The Langoliers- Read the book before seeing the movie. I LOVED both of them.
Pet Sematary- Read the book before seeing the movie. I LOVED them both and I cant seem to get sick of them
