“The Terminator” series is set for a major rehaul with a new production company signing on to make the next batch of movies. In short, what this means is that the character of John Connor (no doubt set to be played a different actor; the third person to play that part, excluding the guy that briefly played older John) will be present in the next three films, but Schwarzenegger’s iconic cyborg character will most likely be missing.
This is bound to upset the stick-in-the-mud fans of the Schwarzenegger series – in particular, AB King – but without the Governator front and centre in the next chapter (he’s too damn busy), it’s ostensibly the only way to go. And, the trend to ‘reboot’ is in right now, after all.
The Halcyon Company announced today the acquisition of all the “Terminator” franchise rights. These rights include the right to produce any future “Terminator” films, as well as all future merchandising and licensing rights, certain future revenues derived from “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines”, as well as certain rights in the television project “The Sarah Connor Chronicles” and the sole right to produce all future “Terminator” projects in any new or existing media.
The Halcyon Company is a recently formed, privately financed, film development, production and financing company, headed by co-CEOs Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek. "The Terminator franchise represents by far the most popular and successful franchise not owned by a major studio," said Mr. Kubicek. "While we have several other projects in the works, we see this global franchise as a cornerstone of Halcyon's future business plans."
“Terminator 4” will be based on a script by John Brancato and Michael Ferris and is envisioned to be the first film in a new Terminator trilogy. Halcyon plans to immediately begin pre-production on the new film.
While as yet no distribution agreement has been set, Halcyon anticipates that T4 will be ready for release in the first half of 2009, if not earlier.
Moritz Borman, the Executive Producer of “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” as well as the then-CEO of Intermedia Films (the co-production financial partner for T3), is slated to produce the new “Terminator 4” film as well as being an integral member of the branding and licensing team. Kubicek and Anderson will co-produce.
Moritz Borman stated, "With T3, we included many incidental details and plot points that, along with the main narrative, set the stage for an entirely new set of inter-related stories covering the future adventures of John Connor and the Terminators. This new Terminator trilogy will build upon the already huge worldwide Terminator fan base, which was both revitalized and expanded with the global success of T3."
Anderson said, "We also plan to maximize the potential of the Terminator franchise by entering into strategic relationships with world class merchandising and licensing partners. By quickly pursuing and finalizing these new opportunities, we are confident that all of these ventures can be completed in time to fully maximize their value by coinciding with the first of the new Terminator's release."

I am skeptical about it. They will probably use the same Terminator endoskeleton which has been a hallmark of the trilogy. It will be interesting to see which actor would play it.
Halcyon has said they would be using digital images of Schwarzenegger from the previous 3 movies. As regards the new Terminators, nothing has been disclosed so far.

Arnold Schwarzenenger will be seen in the next Terminator movie, after all! But don’t do back flips just yet, fans…
Representatives for Halcyon, the studio that recently acquired the rights to the Terminator franchise, tell EW the Austrian Oak has granted the company permission to use his likeness in the film.
“We’ll be using computer altered stock images of Arnold. That way we can span his entire career, from the frightening 80’s era Terminator to the ice cool T2 version”, says Halycon’s Derek Anderson.
Annabelle Gross, Schwarzenegger ’s rep, hinted further involvement in the series. “He’s signed on as Executive Producer for all three pictures, and we are in talks for further appearance licenseing”.
It’s believed that Schwarzenegger may be considering an offer from the studio to provide his facial features in the form of a cast.
“Terminator 4” will revolve around a thirty-something John Connor doing battle with the endoskeleton son-of-a-bitches.

Now that Arnie will be exec-producer of the next trilogy, and there will be (obviously) throwbacks to the first 3 movies, I admit I am more than thrilled about this...much more than I was yesterday. The Governator is at the end of his term pretty soon...so there is a very good chance he ll pop up in this trilogy...
As far as the style of Cameron is concerned...I dont think anyone can match the original or T2. But then lets wait and see.

Last week Oak-fan TheArnoldFan.com's 'AB King' sent in a report stating that Arnold Schwarzenegger will executive produce AND appear in the next "Terminator" movie. The news was apparently straight from EW magazine, quoting a spokeswoman named 'Annabelle Gross'.
Sorry fans, but this just wasn't true. Haylcon contacted us today to let us know that AB's scoop was fabricated. Whoever passed it onto him, was pulling his leg.
There's just no such person as Annabelle Gross, and nobody from the company spoke to EW about the film nor has any kind of arrangement been made with Schwarzenegger to appear in the film.
Sounds like the news item was fluffed by some overactive fuckin' fanboy hoping Schwarzenegger will appear in the film. Get over it. New franchise. Possibly New Stars.
What we know so far is that Halycon are doing three new "Terminator" movies. There has been no director or cast announcements.

Model/actor Marcus Schenkenberg revealed new details about Terminator 4 on Dutch talk show "Jensen!":
"Just wanted to inform you about something interesting. The male model Marcus Schenkenberg was on a Dutch tv show and mentioned he went to Cannes last week and booked four new movie roles. One thing that stood out was Terminator 4 and he also mentioned that Schwarzenegger would have a 30-sec cameo."
Know nothing about Schenkenberg - though it’s a great last name, people mightn’t even realize it doesn’t say ‘Schwarzenegger’ on the poster with that thing on there – and looking at the IMDB, neither does anyone else: He played ‘Male Customer’ in “Dinner Rush” and ‘Big Brother’ in “Meatballs and Macaroni”, to name but a couple of his biggest on-screen endeavours.

I am actually looking forward to these films, but not so much the tv series. I mean, Terminator 3 was O.K., but they should not have done what the first two already set out to do, we get it; go back and time and save and blah blah blah.
I can finally see the war. Cameron only made hints and quick clips about it in the previous two, and I always wanted to see more. And now that they have dragged out the whole, lets go back and time routine, they can move onto the war....

The next installment of "The Terminator" franchise is undergoing the same kind of problems as "Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines" did - namely legal problems.
MGM & Halcyon Co. (who hold the rights to the franchise now) are locked up over distribution deals, and it looks as though it's all headed to court, resulting in further delays to any possible future big screen ventures.
MGM have apparently sought control over budget, script, director and male lead (basically, the whole thing). Halycon Co. are claiming that MGM were only ever entitled to a 30 day "look-see", and that's now passed......
At any rate, the script for "T4" has been written by John Brancato and Michael Ferris, who wrote "T3" - "The Sarah Connor Chronicles", which was ordered to series by FOX, will be the next appearance by any kind of Terminator when it hits the small screen mid-season.

Will the T-1000, the character played by a then-unknown Robert Patrick in “Terminator 2: Judgement Day”, make his comeback on the small screen? Well, it’s a possibility, says “Sarah Connor Chronicles”’ consulting producer James Middleton.
“We absolutely thought about that,” says Middleton. “We love Robert Patrick. We studied his performance as a Terminator and think he’s a fantastic actor and we have talked about him a lot. We don’t know what we have for him, but love him as an actor. We have talked about having echoes of the films in a lot of ways, including actors from previous movies.”
Middleton also touched on “Terminator 4” confirming that Arnold Schwarzenegger’s unstoppable cyborg from the first three films is out – he may cameo, but it sounds unlikely – and a new hero will be introduced.
“It would include John Connor and it would also include a brand new hero for the movie,” says Middleton. “We envision this T4 would be the beginning of a new trilogy. We had talked about having Arnold doing a cameo and we’ve never been at a point where that could happen. There’s a lot of momentum to getting financing for the movie now that there are new owners for the franchise and I'm sure we’ll discuss it then.”

From moviehole.net -
I’ve been hearing this for the past couple of months too, but brushed it off assuming it’s either Furlong himself spreading the rumours and/or his new wife – who’s aware the mortgage payment is due – or a 200-pound “Terminator 2” fan that loathes casting switcheroo’s.
But maybe, just maybe, there is something to it and with whispers that Nick Stahl isn’t keen on returning to the role, who else would you consider than Furlong? He is, after all, the original whiny chum-of-cyborg. And with Schwarzenegger gone, you’re gonna want some link to the original series aren’t you? (though, in my opinion, I’d go for Michael Biehn – it’s time we caught up with Kyle Reese again; and don’t give me the ‘but he’s dead’ line).
Someone – again, this could be fuckin’ Furlong himself - tells Aint it Cool that they’ve checked in with Edward Furlong’s agent and the word is : Furlong is back as John Connor for “Terminator 4”.
Firstly, I didn’t know it was a sure-thing that Connor was going to be in the new “Terminator”? I got the impression that it was either going to concentrate on a new bunch of characters being hunted down by a new metal-skulled fiend, or, fix on some of the soldiers that are fighting the good fight in the future. Either way, we’ve been told that “T4” will be the start of a new trilogy. That Schwarzenegger will not be a part of it. And that it’ll probably be nowhere near as good as the original trilogy and as a consequence, fans will demand the series renamed to “Killer Robots” for DVD.
So what do you guys think? Does Furlong deserve a second chance at playing nice with the "Terminator" crowd? or should the producers just cut their losses and cast the skinny chump from "Sarah Connor Chronicles" in the part?
Roderick Usher

Furlong is back as John Connor for “Terminator 4”.
nope
He can't be bonded, so he won't be appearing in any big budget movies for a hell of a long time. No underwriter will put up the insurance guaranteeing that he'll be able to complete a film (or even survive the shoot) so he's essentially PNG in Hollywood.

It was announced a few months back that the rights were sold and a new trilogy was on the way... in short, he's back. Marcus Schenkenberg was announced to be one of the "new" Terminators in Terminator 4, which is being written by John Brancato and Michael Ferris, and while production seemed to hit a halt because of rights issues... it looks like things might have been cleared up.
Rachel Weisz and Chloe Sevigny are reportedly battling it out to play a killer cyborg in the new 'Terminator' film, according to Celebrity Spotlight.
The Hollywood beauties both tried to impress the producers of the much-anticipated sequel during a Dazed and Confused magazine party at New York nightclub The Box on Sunday (09.09.07).
Weisz, 36, and 32-year-old Sevigny are said to have wasted no time in approaching Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek, both big hitters at Halycon Company who own the rights to the movie.
A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: "Chloe and Rachel personally inquired to Anderson and Kubicek about the role at the party."
The cast for the film is yet to be named, but it is believed a high profile "hunk" has already been cast as the male lead.
However, Weisz may struggle to fit any new projects into her already busy schedule.
She is already signed up to star in director Peter Jackson's 'Lovely Bones' and next year will start shooting 'Sin City 2' with filmmaker Robert Rodriquez.
Meanwhile, Sevigny has low-profile German romance 'Peter and Catherine' on her current filming schedule.
Could this be why Weisz turned down her Mummy 3 role? At least we know Chloe will do a sex scene... for real.
I think it's about time a Terminator Dog appeared.
erh ..... anyways, how about this for a story line:
T4 starts sometime after T3, and indeed is set in the time of the first film. The near future where Earth is now over-run by the 'bots. The remaining humans have formed small armies to fight against the machines, blah blah blah.
At the end, of the story the machines decide the only way to kill off the humans (and in particular the leader) is to send a terminator back in time -
Closing shot of a cyborg being built, that looks remarkably similar to Arnie.
The end (bringing the series full circle)

James Middleton, consulting producer on the new FOX TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, gave a few tidbits about where things stand with Terminator 4.
Middleton informed that Halcyon would like to be in pre-production in October with an eye towards a 2009 release.
No director is signed yet, but they are close, according to Middleton. He added that the sequel will not be called Terminator 4, but instead will use the title Terminator and have some sort of subtitle, as in Rise of the Machines.
It will follow the events of T3 and be post-apocalyptic. It's not known whether Nick Stahl and Claire Danes will return, but John Connor and Kate Brewster are in the script. Middleton said the participation of Stahl and Danes would depend on many factors, including the thoughts of the eventual director and others involved. Also, while John and Kate are part of the story, the movie will feature a new hero as the main character. Middleton likened it to how "Ben-Hur was influenced by Jesus Christ, but it was his story. Much in that way, this character will be influenced by John Connor."
The plan is for this to be the first of three new movies, all of them set in this post-apocalyptic future and showing the war with the machines.

October 10, 2007 - Warners Bros. will distribute the newly retitled Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins in North America.
The studio previously released Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.
Terminator Salvation will begin filming in early 2008 and will cost less than T3. John Brancato and Michael Ferris penned the screenplay for production company Halcyon.
Variety reports that the fourth installment "seeks to reinvent the cyborg saga with a storyline to be told over a three-pic span." As Halcyon co-CEO Derek Anderson explained, "This is set in the future, in a full-scale war between Skynet and humankind."
Producer Moritz Borman added, "The third film was really the conclusion of what happened in the 'now.' You will find the most-loved characters, but the intention here is to present a fresh new world and have this be the first of a trilogy."
According to Variety, "no final decision" has been made about a director despite the buzz about McG helming the movie. Another question mark is the inclusion of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was elected governor of California after T3. The producers said it's possible that Arnie could shoot a cameo depending on his schedule and interest.

Wow. I can't believe I missed this thread. I am actually in an ongoing argument with one of my friends over terminator 3. He belives 2 and 3 to be the best in the series and 1 to be dull, I consider 1 and 2 to be the best and 3 to be pushing it and rely's on the other films to help it stand.
Anyway, there are two continuities in the terminator series branching off judgement day. There's the Rise continuity and the Chronicles continuity. Hopefully, to keep Sarah alive, they'll follow the latter.

So the rumours are true: Christian Bale WILL star in the new Terminator film, and is set to play... John Connor!
According to a report in Variety today, the Batman Begins star will play the human resistance fighter leading the battle against Skynet in the 4th instalment of the franchise, entitled Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.
The production is set to be helmed by McG, who previously directed the Charlie's Angels films.
Little is known about the plot at present, although the pic has been described as a "reboot" of the franchise -- the first in a new series of films set to chronicle the war between humanity and Skynet.
There has been speculation linking Bale to the project for several weeks, with the star also rumoured to have been considered for the role of a terminator. The John Connor character was previously played by Edward Furlong in T2 and Nick Stahl in T3.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, who made his name starring in the first three Terminator films, is not attached to the project at present.

Sam Worthington (Avatar, Rogue) will star in Warner Bros. Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, the fourth film in the time travel franchise.
The fact the Australian actor just played the lead in the James Cameron-directed "Avatar" is no coincidence. Cameron recommended Worthington to "Terminator Salvation" director McG, indicating that the director of the first two "Terminator" installments might be warming to the new pic.
While the "Terminator Salvation" plot has twists and turns that are being kept under tight wraps, Worthington will play the role of Marcus, a central figure in a three-picture arc that begins after Skynet has destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust. A group of survivors led by John Connor (Christian Bale) struggles to keep the machines from finishing the job.
Cameron kept his distance from "Terminator 3," the first he didn't direct.
Cameron never took a public position on the Jonathan Mostow-directed "T3," which grossed more than $430 million worldwide. Speculation is his history with some of the producers could have prompted him to stay on the sidelines.
"T3" was owned by Mario Kassar and Andy Vajna, who years ago bought the rights at a Carolco bankruptcy auction out from under Cameron, prompting the director to remove himself from involvement. And the "T3" rights package included a multimillion-dollar rights buyout and exec producer credit for Gale Anne Hurd, Cameron's former partner and ex-wife. He famously signed over his "Terminator" rights for $1 to her before they made the first film, in exchange for a guarantee he wouldn't be replaced as director. It was a deal that left him on the outside looking in as everyone else cashed in on "T3."
The slate is clean after Halcyon Co. bought out all franchise rights from Kassar and Vajna and set the new film for domestic distribution at Warner Bros. for summer 2009.
Sources said McG spoke on the phone recently with Cameron, who is in New Zealand working on "Avatar." It was during that chat that he recommended Worthington, who in "Avatar" plays a paraplegic war veteran from Earth who's brought to another planet inhabited by a race of humanoids at odds with Earth's inhabitants.

That puts two tentpoles on the same date, even though the release calendar for summer 2009 is still relatively open.
Twentieth Century Fox had already staked out May 22 for the bow of the Ben Stiller sequel "Night at the Museum II: Escape From the Smithsonian." First film grossed $250.9 million domestically.
Warner will distribute the pic in North America through a deal with Halcyon Co., which owns all franchise rights to the "Terminator" series.
The last film in the franchise, "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines," bowed in 2003 and grossed $150.4 million domestically.
"T4" begins lensing in New Mexico for two months on May 5. The state has become a favorite locale for producers because of its production tax incentives.
Storyline is being kept under tight wraps, but plot is part of a planned three-picture arc that begins after Skynet has destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust. A group of survivors led by John Connor (Bale) struggles to stop the machines. Sam Worthington ("Avatar") is in talks to star as well.

Rumors of a new title have been circulating the web, but in a new press release Warner Bros. is still calling the new Terminator sequel, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. With production set to begin in early May, more casting news has come in the previous evening.
Anton Yelchin is in negotiations to star as post-apocalyptic warrior Kyle Reese in director McG's "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins."
With production scheduled to start in early May, Paul Haggis also has been in talks about coming on board to work on the sequel's script.
Yelchin will play a teen version of Reese, the man who fathered world savior John Connor in the original "Terminator" film.
Christian Bale will play John Connor in the time-traveling third sequel to the 1984 sci-fi action film, produced by the Halcyon Co. and set for a Warner Bros. release in summer 2009.
Reese, one of the children who survived a machine-driven nuclear holocaust, befriends Marcus (Sam Worthington), an early edition of the Terminator cyborg played in previous films by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
In "Salvation," the character is a young version of the one played by Michael Biehn, who traveled back in time in the original to impregnate Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and father the world's future savior.
The film picks up with their son (Bale), now in his 30s, fighting desperately to save a decimated civilization against machines that have taken control. It's unclear if the father and child reunion is only a cyborg motion away in the new film.
Halcyon's Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson are producing with Moritz Borman. David Campbell Wilson, John Brancato and Michael Ferris wrote the screenplay. Principal photography is set to begin in early May.
Yelchin ("Charlie Bartlett") will next be seen as Chekov in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" for Paramount.

IGN TV spoke to McG this week while he was attending the Paley Fest celebration for NBC's Chuck (which he is an executive producer on). The director spoke at length about his next film, the fourth installment in the Terminator series.
"We're set to go May 5th," McG told us. "Just prepping it every day, bouncing back and forth between Mexico [where Terminator will be shot] and really bringing a credible, realistic cautionary look at a future 10 years ago."
The first three Terminator films showed glimpses of a post-apocalyptic future, but this will be the first chapter in the series to be firmly rooted in a time after the bombs have gone off and the machines have taken over. Explaining his approach to the film, McG said, "Naturally, the first three pictures were contemporary with Terminators coming back from the future and this picture does indeed take place 10 years from now. That's the new beginning. It's reminiscent and very much honors the mythology and I've listened very diligently to James Cameron and for that matter Jonathan Mostow, and we're going to respect that mythology, but begin again very much in the spirit of what [Christopher] Nolan did with Batman. "
The TV spinoff of the Terminator franchise, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, just wrapped up its first season and the series and new film share a producer, James Middleton. McG said, "[Middleton is] helping us keep our timeline straight and our facts straight. And fortunately, not a lot of the storytelling in the television show is evident in this new installation. It's a bit of a sequel and a prequel because it tells the story of how we got there. But none the less, it's in the future so it's interesting and challenging."
None other than Batman himself, Christian Bale, is playing John Connor in the new Terminator. Asked how Bale came to be in the film, McG said, "[Bale is] the most prolific actor of his generation. I'm interested in becoming the best director that I can possibly be and that begins with surrounding yourself with the most talented people you can. I went over to England and met with him and talked about what it is that ultimately makes us human and why humanity is worth fighting for, if it is at all. We had a long discussion about that. It was engaging to the degree that we both agreed to move forward."

Seems Cinemablend.com and TheArnoldFans.com have some fresh "Terminator 4" news. The latter has confirmation that Stan Winston will resume his role as the robot builder on the sequel, whilst Cinema Blend has some interesting plot details about the film :
- A scooper tells the site that the character of Kyle Reese will be a central character in the next three films and that his relationship with John Connor will be similar to that of Anakin and Obi-Wan in the "Star Wars" prequels.
“Just like the Star Wars prequels when it was the relationship between Anakin and Obi Wan that drove the three films, that's the concept for the new Terminator films when its between the relationship of Kyle and John, who is really father and son but with the moral dilemma with John knowing what has to be done in order for him to be born.”

Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek, producers of the new Terminator movies were in Cannes this week and let slip some info on the sci-fi franchise to The Guardian.
When asked about the rumours that Arnold Schwarzenegger would return to the series, the duo said they couldn't say anything, but that: "At the moment we're keeping everything under lock and key, we want the fans to be really excited and surprised."
This, coupled with what Arnie himself said a few months back, means we think its a sure thing the "governator" will be making an appearance.
Speaking about the series in general, Kubicek said: "We were both big Terminator fans which is why we acquired the franchise. We're approaching it as real fans -- what would make us really happy to see in the next Terminator movie."
They said there was still a lot of mileage in the man-versus-machine story, saying: "If you think of where Terminator 3 left off, there's still a lot of potential story to be told," said Anderson. "Being huge fans, we wanted to know the rest of the story."
Also, Christian Bale isn't just starring in the upcoming Terminator franchise reboot. The Dark Knight star is signed for an entire trilogy of flicks in which he'll play resistance leader John Connor.
The producers of Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, which has already begun filming, revealed the scoop to BBC News.
Producer Victor Kubicek said, "Christian was our first choice and he's a big fan of The Terminator, so we're very lucky. But with Batman he's already done the whole franchise thing, so we weren't sure he'd respond."
"Luckily," said The Halcyon Company's Derek Anderson, "he read the script and he loved it, so he's signed on for all three."
There's no word on whether the other Terminator Salvation stars -- Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin, Common, Moon Bloodgood -- will be reprising their roles in subsequent flicks.
The first McG-directed instalment, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, started filming last week and will will make its bow worldwide on May 22, 2009.
In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.
The film also stars Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, Charlotte Gainsbourg as Kate Connor, Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams, Common as Barnes, and Jadagrace as Star.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Bryce Dallas Howard is in negotiations to nab the part, which will see her link up with Christian Bale playing John Connor.
Besides being the daughter of Oscar-winning director Ron Howard, Howard is most famous for her roles in The Village and as Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man 3.

"Alright so the main character is a cyborg named Marcus. For some background, Marcus was a criminal who was executed in 2003. He donated his body to Project Angel which was involved with SkyNet. They take his body and make a terminator out of him so he's a terminator skeleton but has living muscle/skin and a beating heart too. At the end of the movie John Connor is fighting a T800 model 101 and loses. He dies and the top resistance people come up with a plan to help the resistance keep fighting on. The resistance feels that it's important to keep the image or idea that John Connor is still alive so the resistance keeps going. Director McG reports from his official blog :-
"This movie takes place several years after Judgment Day, but prior to 2029. Just like it took a long time to get an HD plasma screen in our world, it took Skynet a lot of research and development to get to the T-800, and this movie explores that "space between." We have all been fascinated with the world after Judgment Day. Here it is.
In this film, there are Hydrobots that patrol the water, Transports that move human prisoners around, Harvesters that collect human beings as lab rats for Skynet and Aerostats that survey all that is going on with the resistance the world over.
We've started shooting the T-600 - the bigger, grimier, nastier version that preceded the T-800.
Like Reese says in 'The Terminator', they're easier to spot but they pack a mini gun and carry kick ass fire power. They're eight-foot tall killers that prowl the badlands looking for anything with a heartbeat to terminate.
Stan Winston, Production Designer Martin Laing and ILM came up with the designs and that thing is on Kyle Reese's ass throughout the entire picture. Wanted to achieve that bummer, rubbery skin, prosthetic look that cloaks an unrelenting machine with a singular focus of killing."

The role of the T-800 played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the first three Terminator films has reportedly been recast for the now filming fourth installment, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.
Ain't It Cool News points out an article from The Clinton News Record that reveals that Austrian bodybuilder-actor Roland Kickinger has been cast as the T-800 in T4.
And the kicker about Kickinger? He actually portrayed the young Arnold in the A&E biopic See Arnold Run, which chronicled the Austrian oak's rise from bodybuilder to movie star to California governor.
"There's a very strong scene in the film where John Connor for the first time meets the Terminator, and he doesn't know if he's a good guy or a bad guy," Kickinger told the paper. "It's Arnold's character in the first Terminator. That's basically my role, but 20 years before, so it establishes how the Terminator [came] about."
Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins opens summer 2009.

Director McG has updated his Terminator Salvation blog with details on what they’re currently filming. Seems they’re about half-way done.
”We are half way through filming. Our teaser is in theaters and playing before The Dark Knight.
You will see that this is a movie inspired by the first films, but is a true new beginning in that it takes place in the future.
All three Terminator films took place present day, with Terminators traveling back in time to attack. This picture takes place after Judgment Day. It happened. Everything is gone. The story of the movie is the “brink moment” Reese always talked about.
From a technical perspective, we have set out to achieve a completely new visual style that hasn’t been seen before. We’re shooting the film on color stock but are using a method inspired by the Oz process which was developed at Technicolor by Mike Zacharia and Bob Olson. Basically we are adding three times as much silver. It creates a surreal texture that is in keeping with the notion of the entire picture - feeling detached from the world we know today.
Every morning and every night Christian and I work on the story. Sam’s contribution has been excellent. We are committed to putting the story and character first and then supplementing that with action and visual effects. It is our intention to make a film on a large scale with the nuance and subtext of a high quality independent picture.
The richness of the story is really coming out now. It’s a Prometheus tale really, how creating life creates real responsibility - and if left unchecked, can be our undoing.
The entire crew takes the making of this film very seriously. I made a point of hiring key personnel that are passionate about getting this right. Everyone is well versed in the mythology.
Comic-con is this weekend. I look forward to sharing the film with the loyal and passionate fans.”

"I'll be back," indeed.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has been photographed and videotaped chatting with actor Christian Bale on the set of Terminator Salvation, the fourth installment in the franchise that began with Schwarzenegger starring as the titular cyborg.
Ever since T4 became a reality, fans have wondered whether the Austrian Oak would be involved with the sequel given his political commitments. According to a scooper for Latino Review, which has posted a snapshot of Schwarzenegger and Bale having a casual conversation on the set, the "premise of Arnie's involvement is to have a fully rendered digital face of Arnie replacing the recently cast Roland Kickinger (The younger version of Arnie)."
The site adds, "It seems the Director Mc G will in no doubt try all he can to ensure the Governator has some sort of involvement and as a result Arnold was on set providing key ADR (Voice over) for the visual effects guys to reference during post production."

Filming has wrapped on Terminator Salvation, the upcoming continuation of the sci-fi franchise starring Christian Bale and Sam Worthington, and work on the movie's copious special effects has started.
Director McG is giving fans an update on the production via the film's website.
He says, "We wrapped principal photography. Now we're heavy into post. I've already shown early cuts to Christian and Sam. They seem pleased with where the film is headed. Our focus is on story and character, but it's fun diving into the world of visual effects."
The movie is set in 2018, and tells what happens when John Connor (Bale), leader of the resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators, meets Marcus Wright (Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus set out on a mission that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they find out a terrifying secret that may mean the end of humankind.
"Christian and Sam bring power to the rolls of John Connor and Marcus Wright," McG says. "This is a story of two destinies colliding. Connor is part of a resistance comprised of the ethnicities that make up the globe. This film is so much more that just Los Angeles. It reflects the global crisis of man, all of man versus machine."
The director explains that the idea behind the film was to present the world after judgment day. "We set out to create a world that honored the Terminator mythology but was its own new beginning," he says.

The Terminator will be back.
Halcyon Co. toppers Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek are developing a fifth instalment of the man-vs.-machine franchise.
Helmer McG, who directed the upcoming fourth pic, "Terminator Salvation," is working with the Halcyon duo on the latest project.
Announcement was among the news that came out of the Dubai Intl. Film Festival, which bowed Dec. 11 and runs through Thursday.
No decision has been made as to where to film the next "Terminator," although the Middle East was mentioned as a locale.
When Anderson and Kubicek acquired the rights to the lucrative "Terminator" franchise last year from previous owners C2, the former ad exec and banker envisaged the re-booted series as a trilogy.
Christian Bale has signed on in the role of John Connor for all three roles.
Newest pic is tentatively skedded for a 2011 release.
The duo had originally planned to wait until the release of "Terminator Salvation" next summer before deciding on whether to proceed with the next chapter, but the positive studio, fan and media reaction to footage from the current pic has encouraged them to move forward ahead of schedule.
"We feel the time is now to start shaping the next part of this," Kubicek said.
Warner Bros. is handling the domestic release of "Terminator Salvation" with Sony handling the majority of the rest of the world, with the exception of the Middle East where the film is being handled by Dubai-based Gulf Film.
No decision has been made yet on whether the fifth "Terminator" will be once again split by Warner Bros. and Sony.
"Terminator" vidgame, which has been developed inhouse through the Halcyon Games division, will be released day-and-date with the live action pic.

Last month it was reported that Linda Hamilton was in talks to reprise her classic role as Sarah Connor in the form of a voice over for Terminator Salvation.
And now confirmation of the actress' involvement has seemingly arrived.
At the time of that original story, Hamilton said that she had been approached about being part of the fourth Terminator film. "We are talking," Hamilton said in February, adding that she had yet to read the script and was unaware of the direction of the story.
She's apparently aware now of that direction. According to one of Chud.com's sources who has seen the film, Hamilton's voice over is indeed in the film and "it works very well in context. Her voice over is not long, and it comes at the very beginning of the movie; the source compared it in tone and style to her voice over in T2."

Warner Bros. may have completely changed the final third of Terminator: Salvation because of the script leak that happened last year.
A source at Warner Bros. apparently told Moviehole that there had been big changes to the film in the last few months "because of the Internet leak... the ending doesn't resemble the previous one in any shape or form."
He went on: "[It's] a complete [180 degrees] from the original film. Works better. Probably not as hard to swallow. Real good though."
Many thought the rumoured plot spoiler was just made up, with McG writing on his blog at the time that "only three people know the ending."

The original leak, in June 2008, had John Connor (Christian Bale) losing his life after fighting a T-800. McG is apparently still confident he'll get to make Terminator 5 and 6, despite the question marks hanging over the future of the sci-fi series.
On Friday we heard that the Terminator series will be up for grabs in February 2010, when Halcyon will sell the rights to the highest studio bidder.
This hasn't stopped McG from confidently predicting that he will get to complete his trilogy of Terminator films, however, that begun with Salvation this summer.
Despite generally being mauled by critics, Terminator Salvation ended up pulling in a respectable $370m at the worldwide box office.
During the live commentary for the movie over the weekend (that was available to those how had bought the film on Blu-ray) he said that -- no matter which studio inherits the series -- he is still set to direct the two sequels.
They don't report much detail, but do reveal that he would consider bringing in the T-1000 (the "liquid metal" Terminator played by Robert Patrick in Terminator 2: Judgement Day) for a sequel.
Has McG already been promised that he'll get to complete his trilogy?
Or is his proclamation just classic McG bluster?
We'll have to wait until February to find out.
