What are your thoughts on Sex and Horror together..??? Of course without these formulas we would not have the dumb teenagers going into the woods to get chopped up..

It has been a staple of the genre for god knows how long. Someone thinks it mixes. I think it's a must in a slasher movie. If you're making a smarter flick though, leave it out unless it helps tell the story.

totally agree.. reason i ask is because i was talking to a friend the other day, he had mentioned the movie "the ring" and he said "man I cant stand these new horror movies there is no sex in them." I told him to get a slasher as you mentioned.. which are great.. :D
which brings us back to the old saying "depends on the concept"

Not to bite, but it depends on the movie.

That is a interesting subject..hope I don't step on anyones toes by saying this..it is all in good humor..I think in some of slasher movies the killer kills because he is sexually frustrated. Two killers I can think of for example is Jason and Michael. Both kill usually during sex or when your about to get it on. Or just plan in the buff. Michael breathes kind of heavy when he sees a girl naked or a couple having sex. Could it be the mask or just bad case of asthma? Hmmm....Then again after being locked up for so long could do some time on ppl since he spent most of childhood locked up the hormones must be rising...Either way sex and horror is a dangerous combo. And yes I agree it is useless in a movie besides trying to get a rise out of ppl....

I think maybe it will work in a horror flick if it is used with discretion.
I mean, its ok to have a bit in it, but if it turns into a sick porno movie, I don't think It would be that great then would it?
I agree on one thing though, a teen slasher movie should have it no questions asked simply because DUH! ITS A TEEN MOVIE!
Think of all the hormones that are flowing through a hyped up 17 year old?
I mean crap man, its just natrual.
But, then, seeing some naked chick get her gut slashed too pieces while some zombie flosses his teeth with her guts never gets old...
Ok, so I need more info to uphold an intelegint argument...is that so wrong?

Very interesting debate. Subject too. In my opinion everything depends on what director will show that problem. I saw some horror-movies contain sex and I think it was not very well. Sex in the movies will increase interest and make a profit. People who work in the showbizz know about it.
Sumamrizing. Horror movie do not need sex. If you want sex on the screen you must watch porno-movies.

Now Sex is a kind of horror feelings
think
1. It is different everytime if done right
2. you do not know how it will feel because you are totally exposed to any kind of demented ideas that your partner may have
so I say yes they go great together

It seems like sometimes with recent horror movies that they start off with a wicked good idea, then the studio people start taming it down, cutting out anything they think will offend (sex, gore, whatever) so they can make the movie appeal to the most people possible - and make the most money possible.
I'm all for movies making money - especially horror movies - but I can't help but feel like something important gets lost when studios try to make horror movies appeal to the same people as "Finding Nemo". Horror's supposed to be scary and edgy and shocking. Sucks when they turn it all bland.

they mix if the movie can be good about it and not have a sex scene every 5 scenes

sex should only be in slasher films and porno-flicks of course.

I think if sex is used probably then it definately works and adds to the story, tension and horror.
Youjust have to look at "The last house on the left" and "Strawdogs"
Both of these films atmosphere are made from the sexual scenes and it works very well

Straw Dogs really gets under my skin (like Misery and Lord of the Flies). That's one film that pisses me off. Movies like that are rare.

hell yeah, i think that slasher flicks should always have sex in them because that makes the story seem real. What else do teenagers do besides have sex, put a killer in with that and you have a slasher movie.

Also I've found that a lot of movies having to do with the Devil are sex filled. Half of the movie is an orgy!
Not that that's exactly a bad thing....
But I just recently watched some Faust movie on SciFi and my mom walks in while I'm watching this thing on her wonderful 65in HDTV and it's right at some grossly overexaggerated orgy scene andmymom was just like "what the fuck? I thought you said you were watching a horror movie..." It took a while to explain that one - she's Korean and has a REALLY thick accent and understands me about as well as I understand her. 22 years knowing her and I still smile and nod through most convos.

Snuff, violent rapes, sick necrophilia, and bestiality are not things I was to see. They are the only types of horror I really hate (cheap digitally shot horror w/ lame effects, best friends for actors, and cool DVD covers to trick you are my second most hated).
Mild sex scenes in slashers like Friday or Halloween etc. are cool and an expected part of the genre.

totally. In fact, they mix more than just sex being in a horror movie. I wanna see vampires getting gang-raped by zombies! I want Sadako coming out of a TV that was playing porno, which compells her not to kill, but to do a DVDA scene. Decapitated heads going into assholes! I'm not making any cheap werewolf/doggy style jokes!

Wait...is there something sex DOESN'T mix well with? Sex is a staple of this genre, all the way back to its origins in lurid Gothic novels of the late 18th century. Even in early Hollywood back before boobs could be bared, the climatic scene of an horror movie and the poster art almost always had a young woman either being stalked or carried by a monster. Ah...and think about all those damsels asleep in their nighties with their long hair dangling while cradled in the arms of the monster...did you ever wonder just what exactly was the monster's intention? Did Kharis the mummy have something for Ananka lurking in those bandages? Did Larry Talbot, The Wolfman, have something buried in the fur? Hmmm?
The fear of premarital sex both titilates and drives the plot in slasher movies. The midwestern kids these movies are aimed at have been so drilled into believeing by parents, preachers, etc. that teen sex (and, to a lesser extent, drinking) is morally wrong, that the slasher alomst operates in the subconsious as an avenger of moral wrongs. He's the personification of that pang of guilt you felt the first time you drank a beer without telling the folks, felt someone up (or let someone feel you up), or said the F word.
Plus, as Jim Wynorsky said, naked women are the cheapest special effect. And besides, I like boobs a lot. Sue me.

Why such a fascination with boobs? I have boobs and they're not THAT nifty. Even guys w/boobs are obsessed with boobs. WTF?

For the first years of a man's life, their only obsession and source of life is their mother's breast. Males are often comforted by female energy too, which the breast can also represent. I'm sure a psychiatrist can offer many other examples, but those are not only reasons I'm sure.
Now why someone wants to make a horror movie with someone biting off a nipple is a little harder to answer. See "Castle Freak", a great horror movie - one of my favorites, but that scene is sick (not to mention the pussy eating scene - barf). I don't know how a woman could watch that scene. It would be like me watching someone chewing off a guy's dick. (OK - I got sick from just writing that.) Maybe that's not that hard to answer - it's horror and that is horrifying.

I think that sex in any film is OK as long as it adds to the story or has something to do with the storyline, to add tension, suspense or whatever. I think some films have sex in it just to keep you interested becasue the storyline is going nowhere.

Does sex in horror movies blend together well? Depends on how you use it...
