ok so I rented this movie, even after the videostore clerk warned me not to (That's a bad sign. lol)

I heard it mentioned on here quite a few times, and it's one of the few horror movies at my local videostore I haven't seen.

I just wanted to hear if a lot of you had seen it, and whether or not you liked it.

Heard of it, never saw it, but want to see it.

So have you watched it or not?

Did you just rent it and stare at it?

Ahhh gratuitous violence and rape what's not to love, plus there is one scene that will make all men wince with agony of just the thought of what happens in that scene. You will see what I'm talking about when you watch it.

I had never seen this movie until I saw you mention once before here. Saw it at circuit city for 5 bucks so thought what the hell and picked it up. That is without a doubt one fucked up flick. Those people were psycho for sure. Didnt care for that funky polyester pants, butterfly collar music of the 70's but it is a wild ass movie for sure.

[spoiler coming for those that havent seen it]

I thought the parents could have been a bit more evil in getting revenge though.

I've seen Last House on the Left and Mother's Day, the latter was kind of cheesy from what I watched of it but I'll eventually watch the whole thing. I have been weary of renting Grave because I heard it was so stupid it was funny and I'm not into seeing a horror movie that fails so miserably it's funny.

Sam The Egg

it's not so stupid that it's funny, it's just BAD.

a freind of mine and i rented it aseveral years ago. The video clerk was some crunchy hippy chick who looked at us like we were renting child porn. It wasnt Terrible, but it wasnt good. Okay, it was awful. But we laughed through most of the "horror"... The penis part, im sorry, btu that was funny ("It wont stop BLEEDING") haha:)

also, when the semi-retarded guy had his turn.... Jesus christ, i would neve laugh at another rape scene, but godamn he was funny. He sounded like a squeeky chair. (ee! ee! ee! ee! ee! ee! )

a movie has to be pretty bad for it to take all of the horror out of something like rape.....

Angelakillsluts
02-11-2004, 11:56 AM
It wasn't that bad... Ok it was pretty damn bad but I loved that bath part. *down*

"Oh that feels so good it hurts"
*blood spurts*
Oh my god what have you done! It won't stop bleeding!
*she walks out calmly, then down the stairs as he screams*
*she turns on some nice music to drown own the screams*

Revenge is sweet.

I love this movie. When I was looking for horror dvd's i saw this movie tucked away on the shelf and i bursted out with excitment yelling "HOLY CRAP I CANT BELIEVE THEY HAVE THIS HERE!" then a guy who was beside me looked at me and shook his head and said "that movie is brutal, I never want to watch that ever again." that day was a good horror dvd day, cuz i also bought God Told Me To the same very day, at the same very store.

**SPOILERS**

I thought the rape scenes were, and are, very strong and make extremely uncomfortable viewing, BUT HEY!!It's a multiple gang rape, warm and fuzzy feelings and happy, happy, joy, joy feelings are not meant to be here.

I think that the USE of her sexuality to trap the men (much criticized) is very clever and nicely poetic. But I don't think she would have gone as far as actually screwing the men! That did seem too much!

But the claims that this film glorifies rape are utter crap! Would you want to end up like these scum bags? I think not!
It only glorifies rape if you find getting your cock slashed off...a good thing!

One time me and a freind of mine rented this.... The coffee-shop college priss behind the counter looked at us like we were renting it as an educational film....

it was VERY uncomfortable to watch, but the revenge was frigging great. It was almost a predecessor to Sudden Impact (rape victim seduces rapists and then brutally murders them)

The parts with the "retard" made me laugh hysterically. he sounded like a squeaky bed.

And when she slices the guy's package in the tub... I almost cringed as much as i did in Last House on the Left and Robocop during their horrible genital mutilations.

But then i started laughing again. "It wont stop bleeeddiing!" For some reason just struck me funny. Very funny.

Although the aspect ratio has been criticised as some info is lost at the bottom of the screen, including a pubic hair shot. But it's still the best release out there.

The UK release is still heavily cut.

Featuring an amazing 5.1 remix, of all things!! Well, that's how they do 'em these days. Although I appreciated the remix of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" a lot more, seriously.

This film is about:

1. How do we get this lovely, charming girl naked and horribly abused for the longest amount of screen time? We don't really have a story, so we have to go right to the exploitation delivery. Tits and blood, gentlemen!

2. How to we justify all the humiliation we subjected the actress to? And how do we convince the audience that there's a semblance of a story? Oh yeah... let's have her hunt down and horribly kill the guys who raped her. Brilliant! I must write this down, before I forget it.

Available at many major retail and rental stores! And not without some creepy and effective moments.

It was only released on video in the UK (uncut), in the early days, and it was indeed banned.

It's not now, but it is heavily cut (though not as cut as it was when first legally released).

Ah, the infamous, I Spit On Your Grave. Depending on your point of view it's considered either the best or the worst of the "Rape/Revenge" films.

A lot of critics have condemned it for being nothing but brutal exploitation, but a surprising number of feminist critics have supported it. (Carol Glover does a fantastic analysis of it in her obtuse but fascinating book on feminism in horror films, Men, Women, and Chainsaws.)

It's tough to watch to be sure, but I think there's a lot going on besides just brutality, albeit in a an unrealistic and crude way. There are little touches like the retarded man's inability to get an erection, the blame game each man plays right before they get killed, and the lead woman going to a church and praying before exacting her revenge. These aspects elevate it to something a little higher, if you're in an intellectual frame of mind when you watch it.

I recommend watch it with a group of equal number men and women. The conversation after can get pretty intense.

Oh, and mindless trivia: Camilla Keaton, who plays the female lead is Buster Keaton's grand-niece.

They have a nasty habit of putting the victim on trial in this country because offenders have rights.

Commit a crime, you have rights. Be the victim of a crime, they go right out the window in favor of making sure they dont hurt the guy who commited the crime.

i'm pretty sure only a very small % of rape victims ever report it.

Did he say he didnt do it?

Nope. He said "My word against hers".

No charges were ever filed against him. i hope he is fucking dead now. The situation bother me to this day, because i put in the report (on tape, in a room with a cop) exactly what i knew happened, which was nothing. i was gone long before anythign happened. A good friend of mine was the victim of "date rape" last year. No matter how many times I talked to her she refused to report it. She somehow feels that part of it was her fault because she gave the guy a hug at one point during the date.

That is insane. An unnamed person very close to me was drugged and raped by 2 guys and never reported it. I cant believe the amount of guilt the victims feel. It's ridiculous, but i cant comprehend how that kind of trauma can fuck with someone.

I cant remember exactly word for word but quite a bit as it made me laugh. She said it was a film that didnt do all that well but was about how a young woman took revenge on a bunch a guys who ruin her vacation. She didnt mention anything about the anal rape or extreme circumsision. But what me laugh even more was the presenter saying something stupid like "we'll have to keep our eyes open for that one viewers it sounds a riot." I can just see it the weekend after in the movie store, "Mommy can we get this one it was on TV"

There is a part 2 called "I Spit on your Corpse, I Piss on your Grave" in which I haven't bothered to watch

Well you should, despite that (or maybe because) this has nothing to do with Zarchi's film except for the derived title.

Eric Stanze's films released under the Sub Rosa Extreme label are very interesting - I Spit on Your Corpse, I Piss on Your Grave is rather more gratuitous and outright exploitive than his earlier, awesome, Scrapbook, but there's plenty to keep you occupied here including shit-eating and a startling genuine broom-handle-masturbation scene.

Star Emily Haack looks as hard as nails.

The broom handle scene is great, and she is very good. But the film is almost ruined by awful (and I mean AWFUL) padding to make it to feature length (something the director was forced to do).
Endless shots of trees and sky and walls and ground.
And the shit in the shit eating looks nothing like shit at all which takes away from the sequence.

EXTR3MIST
03-05-2005, 10:30 AM
The film still comes up short in terms of running time, so perhaps without the padding this would have been better released as a "mid" duration film - say 45-55 minutes.

I remember the "shit" appeared rather chocolate pudding-ish, which indeed dampened the revulsion one should experience with such scenes - try watching Pink Flamingos for how it's really done!

The interviews and snippets in the DVD extras are interesting (the "dumpster" incident tells how the crew had to explain away various suspect gore props to the authorities).

I heard a ton about this movie when I first started coming here, so I bought it (on VHS) before ever seeing it.

I consider it very good and very bad at the same time. It was already mentioned that the small details make it almost intellectual, but not enough for me. I've only watched it once, but Im actually going to go watch it again right now to get a better perspective on it.

A classic piece of exploitation, cheesy and nasty at the same time … The extended rape scene can get a bit much and is a little dodgy in that it plays a little as voyeurism, but still not enough to be deliberatly erotic in my opinion, just questionable. I guess it depends on the type of individual watching … you really start to think for god sake leave her alone. The bath scene always makes me wince for some reason the line about not being able to stop the bleeding gets me every time.

Has anyone had a chance to see any of the
Angel Guts (http://www.shadowfaxmedia.co.uk/isoym/kb.php?mode=article&k=46&sid=cb21bc145fae63a10799a2506e7d075a) series yet?

I misguidedly bought this in a HEAVILY cut UK version - from HMV of all places - anyhoo, saw it, was disgruntled at the horrendous editting and tried to sell it on ebay.

The item was reported almost immediatley and ebay withdrew the auction, I appealed to them that it was a commercially available release from a high st store with a BBFC certificate but they still refused to let me list it (even tho they have the title in their quick listy thing which gives a synopsis and a cover shot - apparently this sources from ebay.com and doesnt relate to UK sales).

V annoyed, but will source from the US.

aside from the fact that last house was firts wasn't it also hated/considered much more harsh by the general public when in actuality grave does feature a lot more friction. i'm supposing house buffed things over and made it possible for grave to be widely accepted. i've always wanted to get an opinion on that. hmmm, haven't seen it in five years must go back and view ;)

I enjoyed both movies. Last House On The Left I felt was more violent, but you really have to hunt down the uncut version in the uk (same with I spit on your Grave).

But it surprises me that other films dont get the same response from people, that for me were far more graphic and disturbing (Cannibal Ferox, Slaughtered Vomit Dolls).

For its time, it did. It still is not available in the UK uncut (around 40 seconds of gore cut out & some zoomed in camera angles at other parts).

Many others are now available uncut (The Exorcist, Driller Killer and Last House On The Left).

In the UK Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter was cut until 4-5 years ago.

I was a teenager around the time that VHS was just starting out. Until that point the only horror and violence I had ever seen was that of Hammer House Of Horror (which I still enjoy), but that compared to: Superstition (AKA The Witch), I spit On Your Grave, Cannibal Ferox, Zombie Flesh Eaters, Evil Dead ETC.

Maybe thats why the music volume varies and music is now in sync with the movie as now what was shocking and unbelievable now is just something so ordinary and almost scoffed at.

Basically, one of the rapists was castrated with a knife and locked in the bathroom to bleed to death.

The Last House on the Left is not available uncut in the UK, including Anchor Bay's recent releases and including their Krug & Company version.

Nasty, gratitious and exploitative. I loved it. A fine example of 70s US cinema. As I've said before theres some great gritty flicks from this period. "Neo-trash-realism" as I like to call it. This stuff pushed boundaries and unsettled a large amount of the movie watching public.

Last House On The Left is better in my opinion but I Spit On Your Grave is still an important part of the genre. Its good to see both being released uncut everywhere for the first time in ages. I remember when you had to rely on bootlegs for a decent cut of the film.

Neither film is now available uncut in the UK, and The Last House on the Left was incomplete when first released before the VRA bannings.

Last House on the Left & I Spit on Your Grave...

Although their basic premise not being horror, they are usually included in the genre cuz of the graphic scenes...

Comparatively, LHotH was a lot more graphic than ISoyG, although the deaths in ISoyG are excellent to watch. I loved the kid with the glasses getting seduced into the noose, and the guy getting his balls cut off and left to bleed to death.

LHotH on the other hand, showed a more extreme view of the rapes itself, though I thought the gurls could have escaped easily on two or more occasions. But overall it was slow, at least when compared to ISoyG, but it had more crazy moments than ISoyG.

Put to a choice, I would prefer ISoyG, simply cuz of the bathroom death...(YEOWCH!)

How many of us clutched our balls when we saw that for the 1st time eh?

Umbrella Entertainment have brought out a uncut version of Last House On The Left. There an Austrailan based company that have been releasing a bunch of uncut video nasties on DVD.

Yes, Umbrella have been releasing a number of uncut nasties, including quite a few that were previously banned in Australia (eg Last House, The Hills Have Eyes, Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror). Australia seems to have a history of being a bit heavy on the ban button, but the local censors' balls seem to be finally dropping with the unbanning of Cannibal Holocaust, Last House on the Left, and a few others. Still can't have Baise Moi, the Guinea Pig films, August Underground, Salo, and a host of others, though.

Umbrella also do a lot of other horror movies of a less extreme nature, including a number of old Amicus films (eg Dr Terror's House of Horrors, The House that Dripped Blood, etc), some other British horrors (incl. Blood on Satan's Claw, the Asphyx, and others), and many other fine films.

I really wanna check out Cannibal Halocaust but haven't had any luck finding a copy over here. Same deal with Baise Moi and the Guinea Pig films (which I'm bummed about after reading a great article in Ultra Violence about those films). I've tracked down a copy of Salo so when it arrives I'll be able to burn you a copy if you've still had no luck finding it.

Mighty decent of you to offer :D Are you in Australia?

The reason I ask is that I don't have a problem tracking these films down on overseas sites, but I am worried about getting them past our Customs. Last thing I need would be a criminal charge for importing a banned film

Anyway, PM me if you want to discuss further...

2. How to we justify all the humiliation we subjected the actress to?

According to the docs I saw, actress Camille Keaton was fine with the things she had to do. The 4 male actors were the ones who were extremely uncomfortable. I think one of them even broke down crying.

From thread http://www.horror.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16715
This is the most idiotic movie ever made. It was so perverse and I hated it. I think anybody who claims to like this movie is either a psychopath or has never watched it. This movie is degraded to women and needs to be banned in America. After seeing this movie won an award. I don't hesitate to question the sanity of America. The person who wrote this movie should be put in jail for showing a women being raped and showing the characters have no remorse. If you are thinking of watching this movie. Save yourself and rent something else.

If you have seen this movie and liked it. I would like you to tell me why. If you didn't do the same.
If you have never seen this movie it is about a women who is raped several times by perverse red necks and it doesn't hesitate to show women being tortured. That is the whole movie one woman being tortured.

Other than the rough cut quality of this film, I thought it was good(and honest). To show rape as a very brutal, out in the open scene, rather than dark murky shots of her screaming face was way more open about the subject. And I thought the aftermath was a sort of female Death Wish apocolyptic ending. Other than the cheese(and the guy in the Gilligan hat), this is one of the best of 70s Grinders.

Just watched this last night. I was expecting it to disappoint in terms of shock value for some reason...but it was actually as shocking (Maybe even more) than it was hyped up to be. I got freaked out at the part where she was going to dial 911 and then the hooligans showed up again. I just wasn't expecting them to come back for even more. Definitely enjoyed the movie.
