View Full Version : Heaviest band on earth?
The Mothman

the more metal i listen to, the heavier i can tolerate, so I'm on a search for the most intense. There were about 20 pages of posts on bloody-disgusting on this subject, but they clearly didn't know what the fuck they were talking about, in your opinion, whats the heaviest, most brutal, fast, furious band you've ever heard? Im not talking about the heaviest band 20 or 30 years ago either, not sabbath or priest. I want something that makes my ears bleed, help me out.

Behemoth was really really loud live.....so was Job for a Cowboy but I think the loudest and heaviest I've seen live is Suicide Silence.

Braindrill
Antidemon
Vomitory

Well, to me there is a line that is drawn where it goes from insanely brutal and awesome to fucking noise. Generally the gurglier and more drain-pipe sounding it gets it starts to get into a realm that I can't stand.
As for recommendations....you can't go wrong with Autopsy's Severed Survival. Truly one of the pioneers of death metal and a classic fucking album. Also Broken Hope's Swamped in Gore is amazing.
Also, agreed entirely on Vomitory.
Not really in the same type of death metal as the previous ones, but I can't recommend Samael's Ceremony of Opposites enough. One of the best albums of all time. Each song is a perfect fucking riff. Youtube "Baphomet's Throne", you'll see.

Black Sabbath is the heaviest band ever. Not the fastest or most brutal but it is the heaviest band ever.
Other heavy bands:
Trouble
Pentagram
Withfinder General
Electric Wizard
Candlemass
Sleep
Reverend Bizarre
Amongst other...
I guess all the heaviest bands on this earth played/play so called doom metal.

Yeah, it's some killer shit.
Witchfinder I guess is just as much NWOBHM as it is Doom but still it's a heavy fucking band. And really good. Check out those bands I mentioned. I'm sure you'll like them. Another good band that I listen to alot right now is Count Raven. Really heavy stuff!

This question is beyond the scope of this forum honestly...... or any other forum prolly
But the best NOW may not be the best forever...
I am gonna say as for "heaviest" as in all instruments
Deicide
mainly because they make highly satanic death metal and are very open bout what they are........... This was based on their self titled cd from wayyyyyyyyy back at the time people thought THAT was heavy
right now stuff like killswitch engage SOUNDS about as heavy or heavier even tho its metalcore
for a good laugh check out MORTICIAN who back in the death metal days were the "self proclaimed heaviest band on the planet" the vocals sound like a toilet flushing and the drums a water sprinkler...lol
daninsky
01-31-2009, 08:20 AM
Honestly I think bands like Deicide are not very heavy. They are too fast and so on. They are more brutal then they are heavy. BTW not a very good death metal band.
Plaguewind

Oh, I had forgotten... Immortal, Celtic Forst, Burzum, Dimmu Borgir (OK, I don't like Dimmu Borgir, but well, they're heavy).

carcass, well they have the most disgusting song titles but i dunno if theyre the heaviest band ever, depends by what you mean "heavy"
daninsky

First of all, I think Carcass are far from being the band with the most "disgusting" lyrics in the world and even if they have done some good stuff they are really far from being the heaviest band on earth. Don't you folks see how there is a difference in just playing fast and brutal with over distorted guitars and triggered drums. Black Sabbath sounded heavier in the 70's than any band has been able to sound even to this day. They don't need fancy production and shit like that. It's the spirit in their music, the riffs and the way they play their music that makes them the heaviest band on earth. Far more heavy than any death metal band, any black metal band or any thrash band (don't get me wrong, I like death, I like thrash and I like some black but it's not even close to being as heavy as Black Sabbath).
The only genre you should look at if you want a truly heavy band is doom metal and even in that name didn't exist when Black Sabbath started out they are still the godfathers of doom. And they are the heaviest band on earth.

Thats really hard to answer, because everyone is going to find something that they consider to be heavy in a different music genre.
Cannibal Corpse
Skinless
Parkway Drive
Gorerotted
Exhumed
Between the buried and me
Born from pain
Obituary
Caliban
Unearth
Bleeding through
Mortician- agreed even though i generally don't like that style of vocal
Disgorge
Maroon
The Red chord
Entombed
Dismember
Napalm death
Thanks for the list of bands, there are some that i am going to check out.

I'm more into Black Metal than Death Metal, really depends on what you mean by "heavy", but if you're looking for chaotic, fast and hateful bands, here's a few right off my head :
Infernal War (Poland) : http://www.myspace.com/iwofficial
Antaeus (France) : http://www.myspace.com/antaeusdpe
1349 (Norway) : http://www.myspace.com/1349official

Quick fingers for sure, but I would never call Dragonforce "heavy".
I was fascinated with them at first, but I just see them more as a novelty than anything now....and I actually really enjoy other power metal bands.

The question you are asking is not one with an easy answer but more of the beginning of a long journey with no end. There is no single "heaviest" band: there are a lot of different styles, and things that are abrasive for different reasons, and there's just so much of it out there, so many people trying to out-do each other, you will more likely end up forgetting about what is the heaviest and at least figuring out what you like.
So now after going on about how there's no answer, I'm going to give you an answer because I consider myself a connoisseur of sorts when it comes to heavy music (I am a nerd). At the least I have some tips that will put what has been mentioned so far to shame. I think if you just want loud and fast and aggressive you're best off looking around in the grindcore genre, even more so than death metal. While death metal is more focused on just being dark and heavy, grindcore is more focused on being as fast as possible. It would be a sin if I didn't mention Napalm Death when talking about grindcore, but their more recent stuff isn't as fast. So as far as that goes I suggest Pig Destroyer's "38 Counts of Battery," Flesh Parade's "Kill Whitey," or if you're feeling particularly antisocial there's Anal Cunt's "I Like It When You Die." Other good grindcore bands include Narcosis and Excruciating Terror, but after a while like everything else it all starts to sound the same.
Also the deathgrind region may suit your purpose here, which is by definition a combo between death metal and grindcore, and there I'd recommend Mortician's "Chainsaw Dismemberment," and Cattle Decapitation's "Ten Torments of the Damned."
That's not to say this is the heaviest stuff there is, but that's what I like when it comes to ridiculously heavy music. Lately I've gotten more into looking for weird avant-garde metal stuff that's more interesting and not so predictable but I still like it to be sufficiently heavy.. If that sort of thing interests you check out The Secret Chiefs, Ulver, and Therion (earlier stuff is better with them).
I also like me a good melodic death metal band and as far as that goes my favorite ones are Amon Amarth, and At The Gates. And don't forget about good ol satanic black metal, there you got my favorites Ancient, and Martyrium (the one from Malta, there is also a German one). Bathory is also badass.
Okay enough is enough already. Happy head-banging.
