MGM announced today plans for a remake of the 1948 Italian classic, The Bicycle Thief, to be released in 2012. The new version will star Adam Sandler as the kindly father who goes looking for his stolen bicycle. In the new version the bicycle will be replaced by a Harley Davidson and the unemployed factory worker will now feature as an out of work dotcom programmer. Sandler enthused about the project, which his company will co-produce, "I watched about ten minutes of the original and turned it off - long, slow and boring. We're not going to do any of that stuff - this will be pure hilarity from start to finish." Initial reports that Sandler would reteam with his I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry sidekick, Kevin James - who would play the son - have been denied. The film, thought to be retitled the Cycle Thief Gets What He Deserves, will be directed by Steven Brill, who previously directed the Sandler vehicle Little Nicky.

The MGM spokesperson also mentioned plans to remake the French Truffaut classic, The 400 Blows, as a potential vehicle for Ashton Kutcher.

Oh wow, I love the original movie but I'm really not sure what I think of Adam Sandler. The fact that he didn't even like the original but is remaking it disturbs me.

I certainly hope so, NE. I really really so. I'll take public humiliation (which has been common the last few days) over a horrible remake any day.:D

It's a product of dear Zero's fertile imagination. You can't tell? It's a funny read though.

It was laughing out loud funny, yes. But so are a lot of the ideas involving Hollywood's rape of perfectly good movies.
