View Full Version : The Over 40 Thread

well ...
bacause of some growing paranoia - i saw the Dr today for that dreaded checkup most men want to avoid. (otherwise - this would be in the gay thread)
so for the 1st time since i was a baby (and wasnt strong enough to fight of the suppositories) the exit briefly became an entrance.
i find more and more that there is no place for dignity with older age.
every day brings a new humiliation.
ah well.
I lived through it - it was briefer than i thought and it turns out i had no cause for alarm - for for the 1st time in a long while i slept like a baby.
i'm pretty sure Newb mentioned having 'THE CHECKUP' at one time ... most guys should start getting checked on a regular basis after 40.
i guess girls have other things they have to get checked...
for any young folk who ventured in here - i have a HUGE piece of advice to give that will likely be ignored ..
i've come to a complete realization as of late that everything you do in life to your mind and body will be carried forward into your later years.
if you take care of yourself now (even though you no doubt feel invincible as i did when i was young) it will pay off in the future.
i'm not saying live in a box - i'm saying just be sensible.
especially weight... man if you think you are overweight as a young person - lose it NOW. dont bring this into your future because your quality of life will be crap. I'm not speaking for myself now - i'm overweight but not severely - but i see people my age or older struggling with it and it's a bullshit way to spend the second half of your life - unable to do anything worth a damn.
so if this sounds like a mid-life crisis thread - i guess it is.
only i'm not getting an earing, a convertable and a 21 year old girlfriend (unless someone's offereing :p)
my crisis is health related. I want to be there for my family - especially my son. I want to be there to see him with a family of his own.
I didnt have him until i was 40 - i feel terrible about that. but i think if i can stay healthy - maybe we'll be able to play on the same volleyball or baseball team someday ...
ps. if i'm gonna risk my marriage - the 21 year old better bring a really hot girlfriend along
and they both have to be bisexual
and gymnists
and really be into older overweight balding unnattractive guys.
so - on review - my marriage is bullet proof :D

glad to hear the old poop-shoot is clean as a whistle:D
And I double that wieght comment. Nothing, not even smoking, puts as much strain on your heart as carrying around too much weight. Everything in moderation (including moderation) - will get you far into old age...
unless you get hit by a bus, or lightning, or trip going up the stairs (I'm looking at you, Vod) of fall victim to anyu kind of calamity.
Come to think of it. Eat drink and be merry, for tomorrw we die!

Yeah, I've largely fixed the dietary stage of things at this point in my life (27, heh), active excersize is something I need lots more of to shed the ol' pounds.
Not over 40 though, but figured I'd throw in and say "advice taken, work in progress".
Hey, didja crack a fat when they did the "test" urg?

Hey, didja crack a fat when they did the "test" urg?
HAHA NO !!!
but dont think I wasnt worried about it !!
overall the worry changed more to - what if she finds something...
the 20 minute wait in the office before hand was like a torture ... my mind loves to play with scenarios .. and although most of them are extremely pleasant - they can be pretty fucking dark at times.

Sound advice for anyone 10-15 years younger who is reading this.
I hope I shed off all my extra baggage (weight, hassles, problems) before I hit 40. Not because I wish to live longer, but because I would have enough of a riskfree life to see my children grow up to have a successful life for themselves. At least when I die, I ll close my eyes with contentment and happiness, without a frown.

no shit!!! it's not so much overweight in my case it's the wear and tear I put on my body over the years. I played in my adult baseball teams championship game a week ago and I can barely get up the stairs to the media room thanks to 4 surgeries on the right knee. Getting old does blow when you have always had a active lifestyle.....:(

Hang in there....it's never too late...I'll be optimistic for you. As for me, I appreciate and try to take into account whatever advice my elders give me--in my path to be as versaltile and wise as I can be. So any other advice that comes to mind urge, through it at me.

Over 40 also has its advantages.
Admit it guys, all of you have "wet" dreams. (by wet, I do mean "watery")
Drooling and oogling is not a sin anymore.
Women actually feel honored when you gawk and gape at em,
etc, etc.
As they say, there's no finer wine than old wine. ;)

when you're over 25 - dont you dare look at a girl - especially in her 20's.
us old guys dont exist to them .. unless you're a dad with a full wallet.
or a rich old rock star.
but a middle age less than average looking guy in a family van ... yeah .. we're a little 'underappreciated" by young beautiful girls.
the irony is that there seems to be a new male youth thing where they play it cool around girls now... like they dont want to let on that they could possibly be interested. I guess girls think the hard to get thing is pretty cool.
i'm glad i'm not a kid now ... i'd be a mess.

I suppose this is as good a place as any to post this. I am fortunate enough to have a wife that tells me that even though she thinks I'm an ass 90% of the time, she thinks I am good looking enough to ignore it. Coming from Bree that means a lot.
However, walking in to the grocery store last night, there were two little high school girls giggling at everything, and when i walked by I heard one o fthem whisper something and the other say "ew, no, hahaha" and my high school geek defenses immediately turned on and i wanted to go back and punch the little bitches in the face.
I dont know for sure that it was aimed at me, but catch enough shit in high school and it sticks with you. (humiliating paranoia)
My immediate mental defense is that i married a real woman, and attractive woman who's very existance validates my bruised ego pretty much whenevr it gets bruised. (which still happens from time to time, although most everythign is water off a ducks back with me)
Soemtimes though, you need that 3rd party validation.Bree always says the I HAVE to say nice things to her, i'm her husband. of course, anyone who has ever heard of the term "wife beater" knows this sint the case, but i still understand where she is coming from.
So i ended up grabbing a snack at wendy's, and the drive through girl was a little hispanic thing who's accent was so thick i had to strain to understand her, but after i paid and drove off she was smiling and staring at me like I was "dreamy".
Just figured i would share that, the whole "gawking at girls" thing made me think of it.
Its pretty pathetic, but sometimes, you just feel what you feel.
And I still go tot go home to my hot wife :)
but after i paid and drove off she was smiling and staring at me like I was "dreamy".
fumes from the fryolater would do that.

I have just read through this whole thread..[ a 1st for me to read one of these completely].
You all have nothing to worry about..maybe much of what you all say is alter ego or what ever..
I can be lame and say ..ooh but your personality is the bestest any lucky girl could ever want..but i would be lying...
em a witness to alot of times you all could be assholes..REAL ASSHOLES!!
I dont know about many females but ..theres something about an aging man that attracts the females eye.
Maybe ya'all swing your butts more ..or your toupee is shining..even the overly whitened teeth look good...or maybe when you suck in your belly to hide the flab..'shrugs'.
i just think ..the older you are...the sexier your appeal is..
i know for one thing..when my guy hits that age..he will still be a huge turn on cos of how he carries himself now...n besides..he acts like hes 40 now.

It's true. Men definitely become more distinguished and stay good looking as they age. Unfortunately that's not as often the case for women I feel.

Saving family snapshots for the grand kids to see when they're all grown up is very important. This grandpa is making sure he'll still be around to share this fond and memorable moment with em.

Once I graduated college I started dating older men. Now my boyfriend is thirteen years older than I am... And about to turn 40 (in January!). He is handsome and distinguished (balding head and gut and all!). And he owns my heart.
Older men are definitely sexy.
