HDC Secret Santa for Xmas

I just read up on the 'Official HDC Package' thread Despare (Happy Birthday !) started and thought it was a terrific idea. Unfortunately it pretty much died for over a year and is just starting up again because of interested members. Since there is a long line waiting on it and it is almost that time of season, I was thinking perhaps we could do something similar with a Secret Santa type deal. Addresses would have to be PMed to someone who would then pick another random member's address for that person. Nothing super expensive or such, but something sent to another member. Maybe some DVDs, magazines, etc. Then on Christmas everyone could post what they got. There of course who need to be some rules.
First and foremost, if you decide to participate, you MUST send something out so your recipient gets it by Christmas (yes, THIS Christmas 2008). If you can't or won't, DON'T SIGN UP.
Media items can cost as little as $1.48 to ship so no excuses. I understand that it can get pricey to mail to overseas. If that is a problem for you, contact whoever is in charge of drawing names to see if it's possible to get someone more local to you even though I'm sure it would be cool to get something from across the pond.
You cannot say who your recipient was. It ruins the surprise and keeps them wondering who sent it. Most of us only know each other by screen names anyways so that shouldn't be a problem.
Last rule, you cannot open until Christmas. It would be fun if everyone opened theirs at same time on here, but time zone differences would make that unlikely so everyone should at least wait until Christmas.

i was gonna throw out this idea earlier as well, i think it would be awesome to trade small gifts with eachother. of course with the known trusted members..

There should be a check-in 2 weeks before to be sure everyone did stick to the plan. Basically it needs to be a safety feature to make sure there isn't a repeat on the HDC package hold up since there will be more people involved at once. Maybe even passing one sender's address to the next person and continue to cut out non-senders so they don't get something along the way and screw it up for everyone else. Like a "you must ship by" date". If anyone doesn't, they're out. This way it leaves time to connect people still interested and cut out people who aren't going to follow through. I think it would work.

How about everyone has to get something in the mail by Thurs Dec 11 and all addresses are collected from everyone interested up until Sun Nov 30 ? This way there's still enough of a window in between to get everyone involved, keep them on their continent if need be, and root out anyone who's not going to send. You want to be in charge of collecting them, Flayed ? You're on here regularly enough.

I had a look but chose not to post because it would be impractical for me to take part with the atlantic ocean between me and most people. I think it's a great idea though.

You could propose it again next year, though maybe earlier in November. And since that guy got banned (and you could have been sent something....disturbing) maybe with only established members.
