Monster House and Corpse Bride screenwriter Pamela Pettler has been hired to script the feature film version of the Hasbro board game Monopoly.

Ridley Scott will direct the project for Universal.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scott is developing the film "with an eye toward giving it a futuristic sheen along the lines of his iconic Blade Runner."

Monopoly will be produced by Scott, Giannina Facio and Hasbro honcho Brian Goldner.

As THR points out, Monopoly isn't the only Hasbro film adaptation in the pipeline. G.I. Joe is due out next summer, while big screen versions of Ouija Board (at Platinum Dunes) and Battleship are in development.

Dont forget, there is at least one movie that was based on a board game, and it turned out to be funny and not just watchable but rewatchable.

Clue

this is far more troublesome than remakes.

why bother with the board name's at all .. these films will share nothing more with the games than that name. it's a really low idea...

i dont care if the movies turn out to be good .. tying them to the board game was a stupid idea.

:D

For such a consistently good director, Scott is putting out some shit these days, isnt he?

sort of called this in my article, though. Give them time, we will have a coke and a pepsi movie. Reignite the cola wars.

I loved Tim Curry in it, especially the ending. I can't see liking The Monopoly Man anywhere near as much.
