Miss Macabre's spider picture and O&A talking about giant whip scorpions, i figured this would be a good place to post pics of just awful, horrifying creatures. It doesnt have to be dangerous, it could just be ugly.

Or it could be cute, but dangerous as hell.

Here is tasmanian tailless whip scorpion:
http://www.mikescritters.com/critters/arachnids/tanzanian_tailless_whipscor.jpg

this is the infamous "Camel Spider", aka Sun Spider, or scientifically a solifugid. They dont hurt camels and dont grow as big as they look in the infamous soldier picture from the middle east, but they are ugly as hell:

For the record, neither is poisonous.

I saw this little darling while I was looking up pictures of scary spiders at work on Halloween.

I don't know if the spider itself is that big, or if it's just a really big close-up of a smaller spider, but it's hairy, so it probably has some size to it.

He's really cute Urge. But oddly, very frightening! Hot dogs cower in fear at the first sight of him. :p :D

Thats a jumping spider, and the big ones can be about the size of nickel, but they are completely harmless. Even when I was at the height o fmy arachnophobia, they didnt bother me.

They are supposed to be the most advanced of the spider species, think of them as Jurassic Park's raptors, only tiny with 8 legs.

If you can work up the nerve to watch them, they are fascinating. these are the little brightly colored or black and white guys that run around on the side of houses on sunny days.

I have seen them behave like a dog, chasing things, even stopping and scratching like a dog (back legs, cocked neck, scratchin gits head) very weird but very cool.

I've seen the jumping spiders before, and the site I got the pic from said it was a jumping spider, but I didn't know how big they got.

Thanks for the details! That's really interesting that they even scratch like a dog. Although knowing my luck, I'd finally get the nerve to watch one and it'd jump in my face.

The Flesh-Loving Goonch...

http://news.sky.com/sky-news/content/StaticFile/jpg/2008/Oct/Week2/15116892.jpg

Next time you're thinking of taking a swim in an Indian river... think again.

This giant mutant catfish - called a goonch - is spreading terror as it is believed to be behind the unexplained disappearances of bathers in the Great Kali River.

With himself as the lead actor, holding beer cans in one hand and a Goonch in the other.

Words of advice even in the days before man-eating catfish.

considering the number of dead people that get floated down them and the amount of human waste that winds up in many of them, I would think it wise to avoid indian rivers even if they were populated by unicorns and lined with platinum.

Here's one fo ryou. Ever heard of Chagas Disease? Its what they think killed Darwin. Its a protozoan that destroys your organs, mostly the heart. The only way to avoid death it to replace the heart; a transplant. the catch?

There is no cure fo rthe disease, so you end up going through hearts like old folks go through depends. And last time i heard, they werent exactly giving away donor organs.

These guys give it to you:
http://www.cienciahoy.org.ar/hoy02/chagas5.jpg

Its a central/south american type of Assassin bug called the "Kissing Bug" if I'm not mistaken. They carry the microbes pretty much the same way the anopheles mosquito carries Malaria (also a protozoan disease), and get this; you contract it when the bug sucks your blood. Guess why? They crap while they feed. So its like you are a nice restauraunt, and this rude little bastard comes and feeds, craps in his seat, then leaves. The bites cause itching, and when the victim scratches, they inadvertantly rub chagas infected bug shitinto the wound and infect themselves.

Aint nature grand?

Also, swimming in the Amazon river isn't the best idea. Aside from all the other horrors, they have these:

http://www.damninteresting.net/content/candiru.jpg

The candiru, sometimes called the vampire or spiny catfish, is a parasite that swims into other fishes gills, sucks their blood and then retreats to digest. This is the guy that has also been known to swim into peoples urethras. However, human invasion is a one way trip, and the fish end up having to be removed by surgery or slowly decay and passed.

No thank you :)

I have sigs turned off, but if i am not mistaken, he has a human botfly larva being removed from an eye, doesnt he? Those things are revolting.

How about a 3" long, overly aggressive wasp with venom that can dissolve flesh?

I always wanted to know what Despares sig was. I love videos of gross injuries. I can pull up a couple of botflys and of some nasty infections from brown recluse spiders if you want.

Here is just one, of a man who didn't have health insurance and decided to deal with a brown recluse spider bite on his own. Psycom sent this to me, and he said I had to see the video because the guy pulls "a chicken nugget" out of his face. Don't click it if you don't like puss.

Um, not to be a nit-picker or anything, but there has only been 2 spider pics so far.

Here's a little cutie that is supposedly a deep sea creature found at seaside after a tsunami, I'm assuming the big 2004 one, but it didn't say.

Dunno what it is but I remember it being posted in a thread shortly after I arrived. I just spent ten minutes digging this out!

EDIT: Before I looked for that, I was looking at a page of bizarre sea creatures. Just scrolled down further and found that exact picture.

It's a blobfish.

Here's a real nasty creature. The opossum! Horror of horrors, dweller in darkness, crosser of busy streets, creature with the football body and toothpick legs.
