Crazy BioShock fans will be excited for this news, while others will be mad and say "BioShock doesn't need multiplayer, it can stand on its own." Well either way 2K Games announced they will be partnering with Digital Extremes to develop the multiplayer for BioShock 2.

“The fans asked for a multiplayer experience and we answered,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “With Digital Extremes delivering a multiplayer experience for BioShock 2 that features all of the things that make BioShock unique, we’re holding ourselves to a high standard so that we can deliver the depth and variety that fans of the BioShock universe demand.”

Multiplayer in BioShock 2 provides a rich prequel experience that expands the origins of the BioShock fiction. Set during the fall of Rapture, players assume the role of a Plasmid test subject for Sinclair Solutions, a premier provider of Plasmids and Tonics in the underwater city of Rapture that was first explored in the original BioShock. Players will need to use all the elements of the BioShock toolset to survive as the full depth of the BioShock experience is refined and transformed into a unique multiplayer experience that can only be found in Rapture.

Key features:

• Evolution of the genetically enhanced shooter – Earn experience points during gameplay to earn access to new Weapons, Plasmids and Tonics that can be used to create hundreds of different combinations, allowing players to develop a unique character that caters to their playing style.

• Extend the Rapture fiction – Players will step into the shoes of Rapture citizens and learn more about the fall of Rapture as they progress through the experience.

• See Rapture before the fall – Experience Rapture before it was reclaimed by the ocean and engage in combat over iconic environments in locations such as Kashmir Restaurant and Mercury Suites, all of which have been reworked from the ground up to deliver a fast-paced multiplayer experience.

• FPS veterans add their touch to the multiplayer experience – Digital Extremes brings more than 10 years of first person shooter experience including development of award-winning entries in the Unreal® and Unreal Tournament® franchise.

BioShock 2 right now is looking at a release date of October 5th on the PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.

Finally.
Glad to see they have the balls...it's not as though they can't sell expansion packs or any of that online now that will enable online play anyways for those that must.

I would have this opinion even if I was into online gaming a lot more than I am...
I'm sick of online modes being the primary thing they seem to work towards these days - if I can't get a half decent gaming experience without it for my dollars, I don't want it.

Online modes/pvp should be an additional time killer/value squeeze from a game, but a great experience to enjoy on your own is a must.
A must, you sons of bitches, a MUST!!!!

Back in May it was found out that BioShock would be released November 3rd. Then in July we found out it would be delayed.

Well the official official release date for BioShock 2 is February 9th 2010. You can pre-order the game at certain retailers.

The game is currently in development for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Games For Windows. The game is going to have what looks to be a pretty sweet multiplayer experience.

Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the halls of Rapture once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city of Rapture. Players step into the boots of the most iconic denizen of Rapture, the Big Daddy, as they travel through the decrepit and beautiful fallen city, chasing an unseen foe in search of answers and their own survival.

Set during the fall of Rapture, players assume the role of a Plasmid test subject for Sinclair Solutions, a premier provider of Plasmids and Tonics in the underwater city of Rapture that was first explored in the original BioShock. 2K has confirmed that the first Bioshock 2 DLC will be available to download from next week.

The pack, entitled 'The Sinclair Solutions', will be released on the PC, PSN and Xbox Live on March 11.

Players will now be able to increase their rank to level 50, as well as gain access to 20 new trials, two additional characters and five new masks.

The pack will cost 400 Microsoft Points on the PC and Xbox 360. PS3 owners will be charged £3.19.

The DLC is the first in a planned series of extensions. 2K Marin previously stated that the single-player campaign will be updated to provide a "new insight into the world of Rapture".

Bioshock 2 was released on the Xbox 360, PC and PS3 on February 9.

Found this review hilarious:

OK, so the game has massive plot holes and there's a lot that just doesn't really MAKE SENSE, but honestly I enjoyed it... It extended my stay in Rapture, and I liked that.

Wondering what other people thought of it. The only other person that I know who played the game hated it, for the above reasons. It didn't really do a whole lot NEW for the game, honestly, and it's clear that it's just a way to get more money, but damnit I love Rapture and that whole creepy world.

I really like the game. But I do hate that Yatzee motherfucker. All he does is bitch and moan and nitpick ever little part of the game.I dont think he actually ever like a game. And just because he talks fast doesnt make him seem funny or edgy.It makes him seem like a huge d-bag.
