Does anyone else have fish as pets? I love them. I have a Betta fish named Bruce, and he's an elegant dark blue with green areas. Adds a great touch to a boring dorm room.

My college roommate had a goldfish named Buddy that lived for 2 years. He definitely added a little something to the room. I'm thinking about getting some fish for our new apartment since the boy is so allergic to animals.

Get a Betta! They're cheap and don't need much. Plus they're mean as hell, which is always fun.

I used to have 5 big aquariums in my house back in N.O. No salt water tho(too much of a bitch to maintain). 1 tank had my Oscar and 2 angel fish, another an eel, 3 had my crawfish, 4 had catfish and the 5th had all my feeder fish.

I had a similar situation. I had a Betta, which despite my best efforts just died. Then I tried some other "easy" fish, a few guppies (which ate each other) and a catfish (which lasted several months).
Then I had a mouse problem and got two cats, which have been the best pets ever and I also don't have any vermin.
I always did want a sprawling salt water tank, though with my history I'd probably just kill them all. :(

The jokes dont even end with your pets, damn, rayne has her work cut out for her if she is going to challenge you for the funniest award next year.
I have had many fish in my life, all freshwater. right now though we have a rabbit and a dog. We dont have room for fish right now, nor the desire to maintain (or feed) any.
However, I do eat a lot of fish, does that count?

My friend had some big fish...a giant gurami? something like that.
Every time I went near the tank, the thing would swim up against the glass and silently scream at me.

It was funny, I always laughed...it's like when you see underwater footage of them chasing and eating something, it was doing THAT look at me, again and again it would charge at the glass, screaming in that silent fury, eyes wide, murder the intent...

I had a 7 inch channel cat as a pet for 3 years. 7" isnt big for that type, but holy hell, the damn thing ate EVERYTHING that would fit in his mouth. He at 4 guppies in one night once.

That's what I always liked about my Oscar, the voracity of it's eating habits.

I had a goldfish that lasted 4 years when I was a kid, although in retrospect, it seems much more plausible that my parents, wishing to shield me from the anguishes of pet death, secretly replaced him at least two or three times.

Dude. That fish... Is... AWESOME.
Did it scream at everyone? Or just you? And if it was just you, I'd always ask myself... What did I do?

It did it at some other people but seemed to target me a bit more...probably knew I was the most likely to cook it somehow...I liked it either way, but did wonder why.

umm.. they are called Siamese fighting fish for a reason. they tend to be a bit anti-social with their own kind.
Of course, if you want to see them freak out all the time, get another one, put them in separate bows right next to each other. they go at each other all the time :)

I moved my betta next to my lava lamp. I gotta say, it's one of the most relaxing things i've seen in a while, watching him drift in circles slowly late at night in the soft blue glow of the lamp.
