View Full Version : Top 10 Horror films a Newb fan must own.
Hi,as i said in my TCM Help post im new to horror films,so what Top 10 films, (can include a series ie Halloween but must only take one spot) should a newbie to horror need in his collection?
I only have Scream/Nightmare on Elm series/boxsets at the mo so I am looking to buy more dvd/video/boxsets,so it would help if they are still availiable for release.

I don't have a list... But I can give you the essentials that I enjoy.
Hellraiser 1 and 2, Evil Dead series, Re-Animator ... Those are definitely musts.
I'll think of more and post them later, it's too early for thought.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Return of the living Dead, House of 1000 corpses, Phantasm, NOES...Ummm....Hmmm...If I think of more I'll post them...Everyone has their own opinions, so try a movie from each genere and it'll help you figure out what your preferences are i.e. Slasher, Zombie, etc....There's a lot of good horror films out there...
Edit:
Crap! Shame on me! How could I forget The Exorcist.....Shame on me lol

House of 1000 corpses should not be watched until someone has TCM and Wes craven's early stuff under their belt. They will appreciate it much more.
Also, if you can get your hands on some old singled out episodes, watch them. it makes what happens to chris hardwick so much more enjoyable.....
One thing i will give it, i LOVED captain Spaulding, especially the menu on the DVD. I fucking died watching that. Also, my girl's last name is Spaulding. Until October :)

top 10 essential horror films (In no particular order)
1- Texas Chansaw Massacre (The original, not the remake.)
2- Halloween (Watch 'em all, but I think 1, 2 and H20 are the best.)
3- Evil Dead Trilogy (Evil Dead 1, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness)
4- Romero Zombie movies (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead.)
5- Nightmare on Elm St. (But you already have that.)
6- Psycho 1 and 2 (Psycho 2 is one of the best sequels out there and they made it like 15-20 years after the original with the same cast.)
7- Demons 1 and 2 (These are very fun, gore-filled zombie movies.)
8- Friday The 13th (I'm not a huge fan of this series, but they are alright. You should definately see 'em at least once.)
9- Hellraiser
10- Dead Alive (I think this might just be the goriest film ever made.)

Well Shit The Bed! Howdy Folks! LMAO
Yeah, you bring up a good point...House of 1000 Corpses really should be watched only after you gain an appreciation for TCM and such...Good Point...I just happened to enjoy it immensly...For a horror movie released so recently, it Really pulls from the classics of the 70's and early 80's...I think that what I loved about it the most...It brought horror back to the golden years....And Yes, Chris Hardwick gets what he deserves lol Too bad Jenny McCarthy wasn't there to share the anguish...lol

No Children of the Corn???? I know it doesn't scare me or anything, but then again, neither does Evil Dead or any other "horror" movie. I'm sorry, but Children of the Corn had more impact in cinema than a ton of the movies listed in this thread.
