My dog's name is Gentle Ben. I'm not sure if you're familiar with that old TV series. Ben was such a sweet bear. I think horses are beautiful animals.
I love all animals. Dogs are my favorite, particularly Schnauzers. I have two of them. Star and Ben.
For wild animals: Pandas, Manatees, Black Panthers...the list goes on and on...

I have always been fascinated by cephalopods (squid, octopus), with cuttlefish being particular favorites. If any class of animal is going to develope sentience and technology, my money is on these guys. Dolphins lack the limbs necessary to develope technology.
Although my second bet would be on Rats. in terms of intelligence and breeding ability, they are untouchable.
And I am with Urge on that, i love rats. My best pet to date was a rat.
But if forced to choose between being a cat person or dog person, i definitely favor dogs.

Don't have the energy to start a new thread, so I'll borrow some space from Dante's.
I have fleas.
They are making themselves quite comfortable in everything with fabric.
I used Frontline on the cat-twice, and it only seems to aggravate these supernazifleas
I caught a few crawling on me and had to smash them with a fucking hammer to kill them...they have .....evolved:eek
I think the cat has lost his mind with the infestation.

Surprises me Frontline didn't work, that's what my parents use. We use Advantix. Our dog Cheyenne never had fleas before Rascal moved in, we didn't have to use anything. But the people who had Rascal before apparently didn't notice, or care much  that he was completely infested with fleas (he was one sick little puppy when we got him). Anyway, Advantix worked fast. We gave them baths, started them on that, washed all their bedding, and what was in the living room. Haven't seen a flea or tick since. We didn't even have to use the Advantix but a few times this year.
But apparently your fleas are a bit more tough then ours were.....:p
Anyway, obviously, I love dogs. And cats, any kind of cat really. I love white tigers, beautiful animals. :)

same here - i love 'em
said to be the most injury causing animals in the woods though (according to one forest ranger guy) because people do try to pet them because they are cute - but they bite like freaking crocodiles.
i was extremely lucky ... the squirrel that would sit on my lap to eat - i once thought i'd try to pet it and slowly moved my hand around behind it - as not to startle it ..
little bugger whipped around and had my finger between it's teeth .. no pressure but it was an unmistakable warning.
and this was with a squirrel i had a great relationship with ...

I love animals as well....well excluding the bugs/insects---I'm terrified of them I'm the type whom will pet, play, and befriend random animals without even knowing the owners well enough to trust that they won't attack me afterwords. I know that isn't good, but I'm, slowly stopping.
But my favorite category is the canine family (Dogs, bears, etc)
But my favorite are Wolves (specifically gray wolves) They are beautiful, intelligent, and loyal. With that said it's only natural for my favorite dog to be the Siberian Husky. If I were a dog, I would so want to mate with this breed. Huskys are sexy dogs. I know it sounds weird, but I'm infatutated with this breed.

cute or not, I hate pets
I love wild animals, but don't see how they are supposed to be substitutes for our inter-personal shortcomings.
Granted, I've had to put down a couple of animals in my day, so I have no sentimentality at all about dogs or cats or hamsters or fish - in my eyes they live in captivity and would probably be better off dead.

man i couldn't disagree more.
i might have agreed years ago .. but not long ago i caught a mouse in our place. (2 cats and the mice were eating out of their dishes.
I caught the cats staring at the mice - afraid to move (the cats !)
So i put this little bugger in a big old aquarium i had - and the little guy lived almost 5 years.
they live longer in captivity than they do on the wild ..
because they arent anyone's food, it's a no stress lifestyle ..
what do you think small animals do in the wild exactly - that they cant do in captivity ?
go to animal clubs ? eat what they want ? get the books they really enjoy ?
the life of a mouse in the wild is pathetic .. a daily life and death struggle.
is that better for a mouse ? (ask one who's just finished a nice bowl of sunflower seeds and a run on the wheel .... and ask another in the jaws of a fox ..
now a lion, bear .. big animals - they need the space ..
and birds .. they need to fly .. (but i have to admit - i've seen some bigger birds act like dogs - they love the company of humans.).
pets are a love hate thing with me ... i love animals - i like to see them up close - play with them ... but i hate dealing with them dying ...
as far as inner personal shortcomings ? i'm not sure i follow that unless you mean people who have animals to love because they have no one else..
but even then it's mutually beneficial .. cats and dogs think people are cats and dogs - part of the pack.. they enjoy the affection. cats love being held and scratched ...
better off dead ? i dont thinks so.
better off without man on the planet ? maybe ...

Speaking of favorite animals......the older members here know I'm a cat lover. I just found out that we're inheriting another cat. My nephew is getting divorced, losing his house, moving into an apartment, and can't take the cat with him. When asked what he was going to do with his cat, he replied "Take her to the SPCA". Which our reply was "Oh HELL no!! You'll bring her to us!"
So, she's arriving this weekend. Her name is Cherokee, she's about 8 or 9, not really sure. If I remember right, she's a beautiful calico girl. I could be wrong - my memory isn't worth shit these days. I'm really nervous about how Lucy's going to react. I know Logan won't give a shit, but Lucy on the other hand........

Often same-gendered animals conflict with each other if they're from different litters, especially when they're older...But, it doesn't always happen, and sometimes even when it does happen, they eventually warm up to each other

I'm not worried about Logan at all. She adjusted to Lucy, she'll adjust to Cherokee. I feel bad for Cherokee - not only is she losing her home, she's losing her Daddy, too. That's how I feel. They really are like my children (a lot of people may find that odd, but I don't really care, more than likely I won't be able to have any children of my own, and even if I could I would probably adopt if and when I choose to bring a child into my life). I totally agree jenna, nella, LC and whoever else said similar stuff... My little fluffy guy is the most loving entity I have ever met. He doesn't care what kind of day I've had or what mistakes I've made, he just loves me and is always there for me and is always glad to see me. He is a constant source of joy and companionship and I do my best to be the same for him (and I spoil him and pamper him too). I never was able to have human children and eventually had to have a hystorectomy, so it ain't gonna happen. So to me, he is my kid. I wish dogs (and cats) could live longer, but a friend once said that it depends on how you look at it. They are here for a shorter time than us, but we love them and take care of them as best we can. And if we're lucky enough, we get to have several of these gentle spirits in our lifetime.
