Well tomorrow will mark the two week anniversary of me joining the bodacious bunch here on hdc (forgive me if you don't like bodacious I was trying to keep the b alliteration going) With that being said I wanted to know stories on how HDC got started, the forum, how you guys wound up on here, why you guys who have been around stayed as long as you have; and for the newbies reasons why they should'nt leave. I already told you guys I was referred here by Dante. Enough with the small talk, share the stories everyone. :)

Well, there's 4 or 5 members(maybe more) here who hate my guts, so now I'm stuck here!

The other horror websites I had seen were ok but not alot of material to filter thru.
Not alot of in-depth coverage for the entire spectrum of horror.
Either there was no sense of community or there was an unbreakable clique.
Then I found HDC.
When I first came here, there was alot of drama going on with major battles between several members and people getting banned and coming back with new names and getting banned again.
It was like a train wreck.
Well, that sealed the deal for me:)
BTW: You are one of the new people I am very glad is sticking around:cool:

at work i was reporting to an asshole who was basically paying me to be at his beck and call ... but i rarely had anything to do... so i found the forum while actually looking for a horror forum to post in.
the 1st forum i ever went to was a british msn movie/entertainment forum.
was there quite a while but i got sick of dickheads starting fights so i left.
kind of became a pattern .. when the shit gets stupid - i just up and leave.
i posted a lot at hdc because i really had nothing else to do at work/i love horror movies/ and there were a small group of folks i used to (and to an extent still do) goof around with. I believe i had the highest postcount ever at that point - not that i really paid attention to it - but i heard about it all the time.
but ultimately - i'm here to find out about movies i dont know - and chat about the ones i do. (when thats quiet - as it often is - i ramble on incoherantly in the general forums.)
there are a couple of smaller forums i post on - rarely - but not like here.
thats about it really.

I came here to pimp my website, but it seemed shitty to just pimp my site and not chat, plus years before I had been pretty active on the counter-strike forums and (god help me...) theforce.net forums before that. (kind of working my way up the geek hierarchy from loser to acceptable)
I started bullshitting about movies i liked and games (mostly They Hunger at the time), then made friends with some people, particularly Phalanx (back when he was cheebacheeba) because he also liked to cook.
I am still a shamless self promoter (READ MY LATEST STORY (http://horror.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35613)) but spend more time chatting that anything. Once i came here, i had no reason to go anywhere else because I had already established a rapport with most of the regulars, and the interests of most memebers are diverse enough that horro is just a common bond, we talk about anyghitn.

P.S. I still can't wait to see it, Sean. I'll be buying a ticket if and when it comes to Boston.

As for me, it was about a year ago, I had started my Blog and was in desperate need for a forum (it had been about three years since the last one I was part of dissolved). I Googled "Horror Forum" and this was the first one to come up. Actually, HDC places nicely in the search engines. Nice job with Search Engine Optimization, folks.

I was in sort of the same situation at work. I was a plant manager who was basically the owners bitch, but a lot of the time didn't have anything to do. So I started looking for some horror sites to read about horror to pass the time. I joined a few, but they weren't very active.
I had read HDC for a bit, and someone was asking a question I knew about. I still didn't join, but then I started thinking "Hey, I could of answered their question quickly, plus these guys seem to have some good discussions. I might as well join up."
After a few months, I was reading a Top 100 Horror list that pissed me off. So I decided to start a project. The rest is history, as they say.

I came here to do research on a book on horror films and discussions with horror fans called Necromerica. Some members douched out on me and were rather crass, so I decided to come back just to explode on them before leaving forever. Then I cooled off and started posting. Never wrote that book.

I used to be a poster at another famous(or at least I thought it was)forum but it slowly dies down to almost no activity. So I went searching for another forum and stumbled across this and received such a warm welcome I decided to stay.

The fact that the site has been around since \I graduated high school (94) and is old enough to have snagged a word defining an entire genre as an actual .com helped out some, I bet ;)

well, back in fall of 2005, i was internetting incredibly late one night, and just decided to try and find a good horror forum. i had never participated in any forum before, and i had always wanted to try it. this was the first and seemingly the most obvious choice, being called horror.com and all.
anyway, i made my obligatory noob post, and then like 99.9% of all noobs, i stopped posting. of course, at the time i was working 35 hours a week and taking 17 credit hours (chemistry and math classes, at that!) so i got busy, forgot about the site, and stopped posting.
around summer of last year, though, i remembered that i was a member of this website and started posting again. i realized it was quite full of people that had very interesting things to say.
so this time i stayed.

Well, I was the son of a millionaire family. I was happy, rich, and very loved. Until one night my parents were gunned down in an alley right in front of me. After which I lived with my butler. I wanted to avenge my parents by getting people like that off the streets and keep any other children from ending up like me. Now I patrol the streets of my city at night dressed as a winged nocturnal mammal.

I used to post on Comingsoon.net which I came across when searching to see if the rumours of a leprechaun-childs play film was true. Stayed there for about 9 months on the horror section. A guy on it called XtRaVa used to goof around with me on there then he told me about this. When I first turned up it seemed jumbled and I only posted in about 2 threads for the first few weeks. Then I decided I liked it and eventually, after first being pretty hated for my annoying ways (because I used to act like someone I wasn't), I settled in.
I love the way here it isn't purely people saying about the films and not actually getting to know peoples personalities. And the way everyone helps out. Plus, I love horror films.

I was looking up stuff on Bill Moseley after watching "Devil's Rejects" and stumbled upon a link to HDC. I lurked for a while and then decided to join up. I don't always express myself very well and people tend to take me the wrong way or don't understand me, and I guess some people hate me here. But I keep trying. I guess the good outweighs the bad here and it's better than a lot of forums. And it's definitely interesting here.
So, yes folks, you have Otis to 'thank' for my presence here. :p

I was checking out some horror website last summer and I noticed one of the discussions was "what was the first science fiction book you ever read?" and I thought it would be great to reply to something like that. But being very computer ignorant, I didn't know how to register and was afraid to even try. After a while I did try at one of the horror mag websites and was turned down, no real reason given other than my registration didn't meet the requirements of that particular forum. I tried again, this time paying more meticulous attention to detail, filling in everything I felt applied to me and was turned down again for the same information-empty reason. So I did what you're supposed to do and googled my brains out (didn't take too much time), stopped buying their mag, signed up at HDC, got accepted in seconds, and have no plans for leaving.

About 5 years ago I started using a computer because my daughter had just been introduced to it...She was on a music forum, so I joined it with her...After a few days, I decided that I didn't like it, it wasn't interesting at all...So...I figured 'Hey, it's the internet, I'm sure that I can find a good place to discuss what I'm interested in'...So, I thought about what I'm most interested in and added '.com' to it
Lo and behold, there WAS a 'horror.com'...and I have been here ever since
