I hope this is the right forum here :)

i'm new, i'm todd, hi :)

anways basically I am doing my A level in media studies and I am looking at creating a horror movie trailer.

I first need research data to analyise, thus having something to base my movie on,

so i'm asking please could you be so kind as to answer these horror related questions please, the answers don't have to be very long, just descriptive please :)

1) Why do you like horror movies?

2) What do you think makes horror such a sucessfull genre?

3) What do you class a good horror movie as containing?

4) What makes a 'good' horror film trailer?

thank you so much in advance :)

1) Why do you like horror movies?

i like the effects, the escape into fantasy, and the energy

2) What do you think makes horror such a sucessfull genre?

it can be done cheaply - and it appeals to younger folks who represent the majority of movie goers.

3) What do you class a good horror movie as containing?

a good story (based on decent fiction), adequate acting, professional lighting and editing

4) What makes a 'good' horror film trailer?

hook the viewer without giving too much away... either a long shot that shows nothing, or quickly edited flashes of things that look interesting but fly by too fast to really register. or a combination of both. basically - pace the trailer the same way the film would be paced .. a slow build up - then some fast paced action, then a few seconds to take it in. Dont give away the best stuff.

A good trailer gives us an idea of the story but doesn't give too much away. And has a warp sound between each screen. And flashes of a monster or blood or something appearing every few seconds with a scream sound, only to dissapear less than a second later.

You should always use my music in your trailers.

The very first thing I thought odf when I read the title of this thread was Adam Sandler's Tollbooth Willy

Driver: "Hey!"
Willy: "Well Hey!"
Driver: "Here's $1.25 and go fuck yourself."

there are pieces of it scattered throughout, like his character in Big Daddy worked at a toll booth, and a lot of Billy Madison's "stupid" routine was similar.

I would have loved the sheer vulgarity in a Tollbooth Willy movie though :D

Yeah who cares. I like horror cause it's fun. Blood and guts. blood and guts. I won't conform to your survey psychobabble.

The BEST trailers always have what I call the "truncated sonofabitch" followed by an explosion.

For example, the good guy might say, "You messed with the wrong guy, you son of a b--"

And then cut to an explosion.
