Not 2 3 or 4, but good Ol' Quake, the first truly 3d shooter. I love this game, the atmosphere was dead on. i cant believe id Dropped the original idea and stuck with the whole strogg thing for the quake series.
Quake itself was a masterpiece, and both of the add-ons were great too, and almost as long as the actual game. I always wished i had more time and some skill with game programming so that i could get a team together to remake Quake with an upgraded engine (maybe FEAR or HL2), or a new chapter...
i hate it when a good idea dies, espcially for one that is not as good.

I loved Quake ...
before quake i played Doom a bit - wasnt that crazy about it.
then i played Duke nukem - enjoyed that a fair bit ...
But Quake blew my socks off - it was gorgeous - the layouts were rich and textured - and it was the first game i could crank up my resolution for.
it's the only game i played for hours at the time it came out... i remember going to bed - closing my eyes and i was still reliving running down corridors, going ip elevators .. etc.
Quake 2 was an improvement - i really liked that one too.
I wish they'd put out Quake 1 and 2 for the xbox360 .. so i wouldnt have to play them on a computer :D

you could probably ask around. Microsoft has a programming platform called XNA that is specifically for writing games, and allows them to be ported to xbox 360 with minimal work. I bet someone with enough time and skill could rewrite quake in a compatible language (which just happens to be C#, my specialty), especially since the quake engine has been open-source for a couple of years now....
So its not beyond the realm of possibility.

Its amazing, there are some incredibly talented people out there that will spend their free time on things like this. There is a program called ZDoom which will allow you to play Doom and Doom 2, plus any add ons in full 3d, with the ability to look around, not just laterally (up and down too) plus has 3d models of the monsters, and adds effects like glowing and particle effects.
All it takes is the will and some time. I looked into it a couple of years ago, but the original c++ code is beyond me, plus i never have ANY time.

Yeah even thought Q2 is up there with my most favourite shooters, I have to admit I said "ok what the fuck is going on here?".
I'd like to see the original game make some kind of return, either a sequel, or a remake...I'd love to revisit the q1 universe.

I would want one of the following: Trent Reznor to do a new but similar soundtrack to the new game, or, just use the old one over again. Why mess with perfection? :)

Spent lots of time playing Quake and Descent...
once I get my new graphics card installed maybe I'll try Q4 and Quake Wars.

I never really played Descent. I played demos of some knock-offs, but i like a floor. :)
My favorite part of quake to theis day is blasting an already injured creature with a rocket or grenade with Quad Damage and watching the bloody pieces ricochet off the walls and floor.
I have also always loved getting a creature caught in another's crossfire then sitting back and watching them tear at each other until one o fthem dies, then finishing off the winner with a single shotgun blast :)
That is actually something that has been missing from games for a while that Bioshock thankfully brought back: siccing enemies on one another.
