Who here thinks that The Poltergeist was the greatest non slasher horror movie?

Not me. It was only mildly interesting at times.

where do you keep getting this crazy idea that the horror genre is primarily based on slasher films? Hate to break it to ya, but horror has been around a good 50 or 60 years before the slasher catagory was even introduced into the mix, which was back in the early 80's.

Horror has been around at LEAST 80 years, and the slasher movies started in the 70's. They really got started in the 80's, though.
But yeah, the assumption that most horror movies are slashers is bullshit.

Yeah, I meant to say late 70's to early 80's but I had already typed it, and oh fuck, didn't feel like changing it. LOL

the 50's horror movies were great, but I much prefer the German silent ones of the 20's. Cabinet of Dr. Caligari > Frankenstein

True, "Poltergeist" was good...But, not the "greatest non-slasher horror movie"...

The movie "IT"...was not a slasher movie...see my point?:)

Notice, on this thread I insulted no one. I posted my opinion, as I was doing, before some raving idiots laid in on me.

Look, i know that there are alot of better movies but it seem like slasher movies are all that are coming out nowadays. And no one seem to watch the classics anymore. Just wondering some

Poltergeist is an excellent horror movie. One of the best in my opinion.

Poltergiest is one of my favourites and it gets better every time I watch it and the older I get the more I understand the relationships and emotions involved.

Considering slasher films are one of my least favorite sub-genres of horror, no I don't consider Poltergeist to be the best... it's a good movie, but there are MANY non-slasher horror movie I prefer. I will say, however, that it's the best PG rated horror film I've ever seen. :-)

I think the only thing I like about this movie is the ending. ha ha

I actually think Poltergeist is a bit overrated. It was a good movie, but nowhere near one of the best. I actually preferred the sequel.

I assume you mean PG.

This was a really excellent movie for what it was. Good chills, interesting plot, and really one of the very few movies that got to me as a kid. There were great effects, and you really did start to care about some of the characters... Which is rare in any horror movie.

Good film, I'd give it four outta five corpses.
