A New York anthropologist named Professor Harold Monroe travels to the wild, inhospitable jungles of South America to find out what happened to a documentary film crew that disappeared two months before while filming a documentary about primitive cannibal tribes deep in the rain forest. With the help of two local guides, Professor Monroe encounters two tribes, the Yacumo and the Yanomamo. While under the hospitality of the latter tribe, he finds the remains of the crew and several reels of their undeveloped film. Upon returning to New York City, Professor Monroe views the film in detail, featuring the director Alan Yates, his girlfriend Faye Daniels, and cameramen Jack Anders and Mark Tomaso. After a few days of traveling, the film details how the crew staged all the footage for their documentary by terrorizing and torturing the natives. Despite Monroe's objections, the television studio Pan American still wishes to air the footage as a legitimate documentary. In order to change their minds, Monroe shows the station's executives the film's final reels, so they could see first hand how the crew's fate came to be.

I recently got that edition of the DVD but haven't watched it yet. I saw it awhile back but wasn't overly impressed but another veiwing might change this, especially checking out all the extras and watching a definitive edition (i.e uncut) of the film.

I've always liked Deodato's film Cut and Run a lot more.

The version which is shown is rare and out of print only 11,111 of these was ever made the artwork is beautiful anyone who has this version will know. Disc 2 has lots of extras including a commentary with the Director and stills and many more stuff what I loved with the grindhouse version is you get a free poster with it and the poster is amazing if you do not own this version then buy it.

It's been released again (or isn't too far away) with different artwork. Can't wait to get their edition of The Beyond.

His first account (EXTR3MIST, if I recall correctly) was banned...maybe that had something to do with it?

WOW really - great film but i do prefere CH.

Weird how some scenes for Cut and Run had 2 versions shot - one with nudity and one with out (Class of 1984 did this too).

I want to do a 'Be Kind Rewind' version of the CH Piranha scene and splice it into the DVD for a definative Fan Cut..

That would be cool a 'Be kind rewind' horror version.

Just to let everyone know there is a still photo of the pirhana scene in the extras of the grindhouse version.

I can't tell you how many bagillion threads have been made about this movie.
Im not too huge a fan. i think Deodato is a jerkoff who tries to act like he had nothing to do with the animal killing, as if the camera men and actors had done it without his consent. Thats what he said in Jungle Holocaust anyway.

he said - he just filmed what the natives do on a daily basis - re the animals.

but i'm not gonna watch those scenes.

actually, on the dvd you can choose from several different playback options.

one of them is the "animal cruelty-free version," which is convenient.

I always use the Animal cruelty free version Holocaust is a good movie and there is no need for animal killing to be in the movie.

Hmm...I may have to look into that.

The movie has always intrigued me, but I've steered clear for the same reason as a lot of people - the animal killings. If the DVD can gloss over it, it may be worth checking out - mind posting a link to which DVD includes that option?

I really like the UK cover on GO label but sadly its edited in a few places and the new DVD is great!! its definetly the best Video Nasty going and its The Mother Of all Cannibal movies, like Enter the Dragon is to Martial arts..Classic film, the haunting sound track is brilliant.

I know some pleople dont like animals being chopped up etc..but sadly its part of every day life people dont think about it when there tucking into their big macks at Mcdonald! or eating the chickens at KFC..in the jungle you have to kill animals to servive..likethe film says "dont look away they are people like you."

Could go into a history lesson here but I'll not..if you dont wanna see animals killed or people being cut up dont watch it but dont watch the edited version its not the intended version is it,its some what disrespectful to judge a film by it cut version also, so get the UNCUT one its much better..:)

or dont bother...

animal killings are not the only thing cut from this version -the abortion parts cut where the cannibal tribe women bash the mother on the head with rocks and take the new born child away and burry it in the mud.
also the road to hell parts cut...and a few other parts init also-iinfact when i saw the uncut version there was so much edited it was like watching a hole new film!

The old version on UK pre cert go label has the ritual wooden dildo scene intact but the modern cut vipco version cut that part out as well as the cuts above and more!! totally buchered-really id stick to the dvd uncut, animal guts, rape intact, cool as hell version lol

After all thats the way the director intended you to see it! im a big beleiver in that thats why i hate censorship over here in the UK-it sucks ass! thank God for the internet!! Amen!!

Ferox13

pre cert sniffer is correct theres a lot more than just the animal killings cut..

Its wierd how much of the Banned 'video nasties' were actually already cut..

pre cert sniffer
09-22-2008, 02:17 AM
yeah they were cut before the cinema release of the film or by the companies who released them onto video at that time, i guess they were scared incase the law fined them during the nasty witch hunt in 1983-84 and even after cuts they still got banned!!-video removed from shelfs in shops, some were then re-edited and re-released with an 18 certificate and others were just banned out right by the BBFC --now totally out of touch in my opinon not even needed because the internet just shoves its middle finger up at them lol.

so, when they did edit films back then they increased the carbootsale pirate video salesmen and there dodgey copies of faces of death and i spit on your grave..of course causing loads more trouble and making far more work for them selfs, i guess they were board or somthing cos the BBFC were a joke back then and continue to be.

now we all dont have this problem because the internet has helpped the horror collectors a hell of alot over here in the UK but as you can see we had a shit time with films being cut to hell and back!

Cannibal Holocaust was just one of many movies cut before release onto video back in the 80's others included driller killer, toolbox murders, cannibal aka jungle holocaust, alot of collectors dont know this and go out and buy pre cert tapes thinking they will be uncut!, this isnt always the case..
heres a list of ALL the cut made to the UK version of Cannibal holocaust:

The killing of a muskrat has been deleted
Our intrepid adventurers witness the riverside murder and mutilation of a woman presumably by her husband. We don't get to witness:
the girl being dragged through the mud and having her legs forced apart
the girl struggling and being raped with a wooden dildo
the man raising a mudball with spikes and the subsequent shot of genital mutilation
Another woman getting raped on the river bank has been removed
The disembowelling of a giant turtle has been predictably deleted
A monkey gets his head sliced open and its blood is drained into a bowl...but not in the censored version
The kicking of a tethered pig has been removed and its subsequent shooting and death
The rape one of a native girl by 3 men has been reduced
The cannibals eventually overpower the adventurers. The woman in the party gets stripped and raped but not in the UK version.
The woman's death scene is missing nudity shots.

Cannibal holocaust on Go label Pre Cert video commands high prices on ebay fetching approx £60-80 and remains a highly collected and respected work of modern day horror/exploitation cinema.

Devil-Hunter
09-23-2008, 08:58 AM
The Reason for it being at high price is because the Go Label version was the 1st time uk had the movie uncut.

pre cert sniffer
09-23-2008, 10:06 AM
The Go Pre Cert is cut.. the reason it goes high is cos its rare and is the original banned version.
They cut out the turtle part, left the rape, cut the girls baby part and its edited right at the final death scene..- alot of collectors dont know this and go out and buy pre cert tapes thinking they will be uncut!, this isnt always the case..-

theres also 2 pre cert version theres a back text label version and an pink /red coloured text on the label , i thought one was cut and one was uncut--means nothing though and both versions are cut, they just must have changed the design at one point thats all..

but, its still good even cut..and the cover art is lovely.
