I use AVG.

I think it works just fine as protection for the computer at home. I don't have as many problems with it as I have with my Norton at work.

Because 2 anti virus programmes doesn't work well together. In fact they work against each other.

Besides, it reeeeeally slows down your computer. Especially Norton.

My moms friend came over,and I told him my computer was slow(he's the total hippie type LOl heavy-set,dopey,the hulk hogan hair but in a ponytail,totally into conspiracies). He showed me all the stuff to help my computer and he said NO WAY WE HAVE TO GET THIS NORTON OUT OF HERE, and he told me to use AVG it works 100 times betters, I don't know much about computers but I use AVG alot but I can't tell if it's done anything.

Well, I rarely turn on AVG. Only when I need it, so it aint all bad.

I use NOD32.

It's not free, but it is pretty lightweight, doesn't slow down your system as much as Norton's is notorious for doing.

I have used AVG in the past. It's not bad, but I don't think it is as good as NOD32.

I have Norton, with SpyBot, but I highly recommend MalWareBytes, for a free thorough scan. One of the best freewares out, and gets all the stuff Norton misses.

AVG. No contest. Norton's is filled with crap that is forever trying to get you to buy this upgrade or that next. That ongoing process alone slows down your connection. If you use a program like Enditall to kill all the programs running on your comp, you'd be shocked to see how much Norton's is doing without your knowledge, esp in their favor. Don't like that ? Neither did I. Try to remove Norton's from your comp and you get stuck in an endless loop of nonsense where it will never get removed. You need to go to your Reg files in Safe Mode to completely clean your comp to seriously be rid of it. How is it a "user friendly" product if even a simple remove program command they supply is meant to keep spying on your comp forever to sell you something ? ugh.

Uhhh all hippies aside, Yes AVG works 100 times better than Norton. Use it. Nuff said.

I had Norton, but since my last subscription went out of date I have had AVG, The only difference I am noticing is that AVG is always updating which tends to slow down the computer when I first switch it on and want to use it, it pisses me off, especially the trial version I am using at the moment.

I actually prefer Norton. I've never had the problems of my computer running slow with it. My boyfriend fixes computers for a living and apparently doesn't recommend AVG for the best protection if you're the type to do a lot of downloading. But I've never tried it myself, and I get Norton free from his work anyway.

I just uninstalled Norton, and my computer is lightning fast. Who would have guessed? :confused:

Fair enough. All I know is I've never gotten a single virus or infection with Norton (which considering the amount of downloading I do is miraculous) and my computer is still "lightning fast." All the computer gurus I know would never use AVG. But I myself have never tried AVG. I had McAfee for a long time and that one did slow my computer down quite a bit. But as it is, I stand by Norton (especially since it's free for me :D ).

Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of AVG. I tried it a number of years ago and wasn't really happy with the way it worked, and found it slow at scanning.

I think the problem with Norton is that they add so many "features" if you get their internet security pack. Eg phishing filters, transaction security etc.

All these processes have to use some of your system's power.

If you have a basic system, it can really slow it down. If you have a high end system, you have probably bought this for a reason (eg high end gaming etc) and you will be sensitive to things hogging CPU cycles.

The antivirus portion of Norton's probably isn't too bad in itself (I believe it passed the recent VB100). But it's all the extra stuff that they bundle along with it that causes the problem. And most people don't just buy/install the antivirus program - why would they when for an extra couple of dollars you can get all these other features ;)

IMO there are many better choices for paid antiviruses - eg Nod32, Kasperski. But if you are getting Norton's for free and only using the antivirus component that isn't a bad option.

As far as the free ones go, I don't mind Avira Antivir, or Avast. But I still think some of the paid solutions are better.

That's a good point. I don't use the extra features as well as my computer has a lot of memory, which helps.

I use AVG and Malware Bytes. I have had no problems at all in the 2 years I have had my current laptop.

Yeh thats whats been happening with mine. I liked the older version better.
