Ahh That would be because the industry rarely writes screenplays which involve a female monster leading role. LOL MEN

I didn't see Urban Legend or Scream 2. In Fact, I was never interested in ANY of the Scream films. I saw the others though, most were lame though. they were never ongoing monsters, like Freddy for instance. They never had more than one film.

Julia was supposed to be the recurring monster in Hellraiser, but people responded more to Pinhead

yeh but they dont make em nasty like freddy, well exorcist maybe but for the most part theyre just lame
teen flicks dont count.
Sam The Egg

truth be told there are fiew real recurring monsters. Some get a sequel, but there are really 4, maybe 5 real recurring monsters that have the same identity. One was supposed to be female but the audience legitimately responded more to Pinhead. The other recurring monsters, werewolves, vampires etc. have various incarnations and don't count towards either gender. So what we're left with is Freddy, Jason (The first one was his mother), Michael and if you want to count the Phantasm movies we can add the Tall Man, but he gets so little publicity why even bother with him?

they're ALL teen flicks. That's who they've always been geared towards.

No, Not ALL. Teenagers arent that damn important. I have rented my share of movies as an adult. So, I'm paying their bills too.

but the slasher movies, Freddy, Jason, Michael, those are marketed towards the teen audience because that's mostly who goes to see them. Saying teen ones don't count is bullshit because that eliminates 95% of all of them, not just the Scream generation ones

Incorrect. You must remember that Freddy, Jason, and Michael were first created before most of todays teenagers were even born. They were targeted at the teenagers from past decades, who grew up, like myself, and are still fans because we grew up with them. Please, my bedroom wall was COVERED with Freddy posters when I was 14, and I'm still a fan now. Now multiply that times 1,000,000,000,000 Nuff said.

if they are R they are not marketed towards the teen audience.
and im not talking about teen audience as in markets
i am talking about who is in it. like those scream movies about a bunch of teenagers/dumbass college kids
freedy vs jason about some stupid kids. those kind of teen movies
Sam The Egg
01-24-2004, 11:55 PM
Exactly. They were marketed towards the teenagers of the time. They are all marketed towards the teenagers of the time. John Hughs movies are teen movies, because the teenagers of the time were the ones who they were made for. But nevertheless, they are still marketed, targeted, all of that, towards the TEENAGERS. That's my point. You can't discard the teen horror movies because the ones we're talking about are/were all teen movies.
Now, I'm gone for the night, it's after 3 in the morning here

So, your in the same time zone as I.
PS The older audiance still contributes a great deal of profit to the horror flick. We are not to be dismissed.

yeh but R only lets in 17, 18, 19
when usually teen target is 13-19. which is why a lot of those comic book shits aim for pg13 (spawn removed a lot of cussing and violence to get pg13)
when R they are aiming towards 18-24 year old group
no they would not make american pie for teenagers, only the older ones

I love Spawn. I used to have the director's cut version of that. The clown was a trip.

hey, I'm back.
They only have recently been enforcing the R-rating rule thing. They (the theater) let me see Urban Legends alone and I was friggen 12. The movie sucked, but the point remains valid.
All I'm saying is that saying "the teen ones don't count" is dumb because that's who they're mostly marked for in general and that's who's in them. Jason killed teenagers, Freddy killed teenagers, Michael killed teenagers.
And Spawn was the shit. I liked the HBO cartoon better, though.

No one mentioned Bride of Chucky???
Also, someone said that the only franchise villains were Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers and Tall Man. What about Leatherface, Chucky, Leprachaun, Candyman, etc...

individual opinions of the film do not deter from the fact that they all had more than one sequel and that was the issue being responded to
Leatherface- so what if he had a remake? He was in 4 films before it.
Chucky- it was never brought up that the films needed to be current. (There's no reason that they couldn't make another one if they got a hold of a good script.)
Leprachaun - WTF does STV Hell mean? All I know is that there are still Leprachaun movies coming out (even though they aren't very good.)
Candyman- Yeah you're right. He shouldn't count 'cuz he's black. Hahaha. Just kidding, that's bad. While I am not really a fan of these movies, I do think they should still be counted as a horror franchise. And just because it's a trilogy right now doesn't mean it will be forever. (Inidana Jones is a trilogy right now too, but they are talking about making a 4th.)

What about the queen mum Alien? Sure, she wasn't human, but man was she persisten. Plus, the queen mum alien appeared in two of the the movies, but only Alien and Aliens are worth watching, imo.

I meant to say Sleepaway Camp 2
The third one is too bad to mention, and the first one is not much better.
