Alaska's Governor? Kind of like a touch-and-go move, if you ask me.

And, she's hot.

But it won't work.

It's a smart move.

But it won't work.

One can never tell.

"Aside from her physical attractiveness (she is a former beauty queen), Palin's reputation as a 'clean government, anti-corruption' candidate would be a refreshing departure from the closed doors and whispered secrets of the Bush administration.

Also, in perhaps her most crucial stance on any one issue, Palin is firmly against abortion, making her one of few mainstream female US politicians who Republicans can count in the pro-life column.

Another strong point is her high approval percentage, which has hovered at or above 80 per cent for most of her two years as governor.

The formal announcement will come in Dayton, Ohio soon when Governor Palin will be introduced by Senator McCain in a campaign event.

Palin, an avid sportswoman, is said to be a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. She is a regular church-goer and pro-life.

According to analysts, the choice of Palin will help Senator McCain on many fronts, including in the Arizona Senator's brave decision to go for a woman on the ticket when his Democratic rival Barack Obama did not.

Secondly, it makes the Democrats vulnerable of attacking Governor Palin for fear of offending the woman vote."

All of them pretty strong points.

They don't need to attack her- they've got McCain.

Either way we'll have a first now.

The first black (well, half at least) president or the first woman VP (Hillary doesn't count).

I doubt many women were voting for hilary simply because she is a woman. The ones that did are probably hardcore "womynists" that would object to the hardcore right views of palin, ESPECIALLY abortion. She could very well bury mccain.

They should be more worried about the problems their country has. Unless you find a perfect country which would be odd. Just make sure to learn the language and enjoy your four (or eight, who knows, if he gets elected once it could happen again) year stay. Try China, the Olympics helped gloss over their issues. Wait, maybe not China, we still want you around here and this website might not fit the government standards.

Honestly though, I think this hurts McCain's chances more than anything and while I thought it could be a close race before I think Obama will run away with this one.

Unless I'm wrong he has only been in the US Senate for 2 years but spent 8 years in the Illinois Senate.

Palin was also a mayor (two terms) before becoming the Governor of Alaska. EDIT: Also, I just read that she's been in "politics" since 92'.

Oh, and as for "Bush Lite", McCain not only has ran ads against Bush (when they were campaigning against each other which got real nasty) but also went against most of the Republican party with some of his legislation and supreme court votes.

Sadly, editorial replies confirmed a lot of women saying they are jumping on the McCain bandwagon in today's paper rather than supporting Obama. It makes me feel like a lot of people (not just women) in politics have the mentality that "if you don't somehow support all my ideas and ideal candidate, I will vote for the other person". Is it just me, or is having at least some of your views represented better than having none at all ? I personally feel like this country has fallen by the wayside in the last 8 years and if Hilary was the Democrat nomination, at least she represents my views more than McCain so I would've voted for her. I don't give a shit about "making history" so much as I am worrying about "repeating history". Black, white, Latino, man, woman.... whatever. This country hasn't worked for anyone but a few people in the last few years so if anyone can at least try to make a difference for the majority, I am all for it. You don't need to have much experience on the job as so many McCain supporters are trying to knock. Point in question: How many guys here would prefer having their new girlfriend having a great heart and making a better life together than "experience" ? Considering McCain & Co has been screwing everyone for 35 years, I'd stay away from that :D

The legal age of consent is 18.
Conservative right always claims "family values."
She's an unwed pregnant 17-year-old.

Des - I agree that this absolutely has no place in politics, but let's be honest here - When you enter the political spotlight, you are willingly subjecting your family to the judgment and criticism of politicians and pundits alike. The conservative right constantly refers to "Family Values" to propagate their support of what is considered traditional moral values (mostly stemming from Christian ideology). The Republicans love righteously pointing out the moral foibles of the Democratic party (Clinton, anyone?). I'd just like to see the conservative right be just as righteous with one of their own.

...

BUT THAT WASN'T EVEN MY MAIN POINT! ARGH!

I'm just trying to point out the humor here (slight irony with the nod to family values, but I'm not the angry liberal that I used to be so that's not really that big a deal) and make more of a crack at Newb's and Palin's common familial role (GET IT?! IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE HE'S A GRANDPARENT - AND SO IS SHE! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA). Granted, it was a periphrastic and not particularly funny joke, I'm not seriously judging nor am I making the argument that this rumor should be the focus of the Obama campaign (I am not that close-minded, narrow-focused or ignorant, thank you very much).

Argh. Maybe I just took your post too personally. I don't like you anymore. We're TOTALLY breaking up. :(

Like the fact that the age of consent in Alaska is 16.
(Didn't you get my warning when I joined that I am, indeed, an asshole?)

Alaska
The age of consent is 16, provided the older partner is not in a position of authority.

"Sec. 11.41.434. SEXUAL ABUSE OF A MINOR IN THE FIRST DEGREE.

(a) An offender commits the crime of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree if
(1) being 16 years of age or older, the offender engages in sexual penetration with a person who is under 13 years of age or aids, induces, causes, or encourages a person who is under 13 years of age to engage in sexual penetration with another person;
(2) being 18 years of age or older, the offender engages in sexual penetration with a person who is under 18 years of age, and the offender is the victim's natural parent, stepparent, adopted parent, or legal guardian; or
(3) being 18 years of age or older, the offender engages in sexual penetration with a person who is under 16 years of age, and
(A) the victim at the time of the offense is residing in the same household as the offender and the offender has authority over the victim; or
(B) the offender occupies a position of authority in relation to the victim.
