i just bought a 160 gig hardrive, and my cousin owns a video store (sells videos not a rental chain or nothing) and well i love horror movies, and he allows me to borrow anything they have in the back, so in other words any movies they have 4 or more copies of i can get for free, and i want to fill this hardrive to make a horror collection, both classic and new are welcome, scary and just plain awesome, here is a list of what i have or am in the process of getting
IT
Nightmare on Elm Street
Ammityville horror (the 2005 one, decent bit im sure someone will say the original is better, which i need to see for myself)
Jacobs Ladder
The exorcism of Emily Rose
Jeepers Creepers
Event Horizon
Evil Dead 1 2 and 3
The Ring
Blair witch 2
30 Days of Night
Hellraiser collection (1-7 or 8 i belive)
Seven
Wicker Man
The Brood
so what should be added to this list?

at 160 gigs, if you are doing straight dvd rips, you will probably only be able to hold about 30 or so movies (DVD iso rips are generally just over 4 gigs, and a 160 HD is actually going to be closer to 140-150 gigs, i dont know why they do that...)
On the other hand, if you are ripping them to AVI files, you are looking closer to 600 MB-1 gig per movie, but without any dvd features like commentaries and so on, but will give you a bigger collection if you dont care about that stuff.
However, you should just buy the movies if you liek them, so, you know, the film makers can get some money for their work and continue to make them.

completely agree, you should most definitely buy any movie that you enjoy so that you may continue to enjoy it. Also like mentioned above, DVD rips are massive files and is it really worth it for only a handful? Additionally, most of the movies you had listed are pretty cheap at websites or in stores like Best Buy.

I agree - don't steal from a genre we all love. Go steal some Pee Wee Herman movies - no one will care.

Actually you can stream movies from your computer to your Xbox 360 or PS3 and still watch them on a TV, or store them on a flash drive....not saying you should, just saying it's possible.

yeh but if you rip them to your computer it degrades the quality..having the original is your best bet thats all im saying;)

Depends how much space you're willing to give to a movie. The HD rips are better than any real DVD quality, but they're usually at least a gig...but I agree that downloading can be a gamble sometimes, you never really quite know what you'll end up with from most sites.

i'll be the 1st to admit - i download films i cant find.
if they're good and become available i replace them with origionals.
(i did just that this weekend)
any movie i suspect of being so-so - i'll download. if it's good i'll replace it.
(i always prefer origional packaging - and all the extras that are usually stripped out of DVD rips)
but if a movie is bad ... fuck them
a shit product is made, then hyped as the next best thing - and you waste 90 minutes of your life on it - and that's stealing ?
well, yeah - the people who made the movie stole 90 min of my life. they are the fucking theives.
I convinced friends to go see both House of the Dead and The Villiage. I paid for a babysitter and movie tickets ... and my time.
both movies were garbage - unenjoyable. I got suckered in by clever ads and bullshit hype.
Those movie stole from me.
If i went to a restaurant and was served something blah .. and the last mouthfull tasted like absolute shit - i'd get my money back.
If i bought a toaster and it only made the bread lukewarm, i'd get my money back.
when i sit all the way through a film thinking it might redeem itself by the end - and it doesn't... i get fuck all back... not my admission, not the $30 I had to pay the babysitter - nothing.
Make a good film, you deserve every dime... make a piece of shit that wastes the time and money of everyone who was suckered into seeing it - you deserve to lose every cent - except for the people who somehow still think it's a good movie.
I'm not looking for anyone's approval - this is just how it is with me.
