Sony Pictures is reportedly considering remaking their 1992 horror cult classic Candyman, based on the character created by novelist Clive Barker in his story The Forbidden.

According to Shock Till You Drop, Sony wants to exploit their brand-name horror icon the way that other studios have brought (or are bringing) back Leatherface, Jason, Michael Myers, and Freddy Krueger.

The site adds that no writer or director is set yet, but rumor has it that the Candyman, a.k.a. Daniel Robitaille, will be white in the remake. He was played in the three previous installments by African-American actor Tony Todd.

Say it isn't so....I really liked this movie. A remake is going to murder it...

Haha- I think it's funny that the same people who give me grief over my opinions of remakes of classic horror films get upset when films from THEIR chilhoods are getting remade.

Wtf is candyman without Tony Todd? The whole reason the candyman was killed from the first place was because he was black.

You must not be talking about me....I hate remakes in general.

I was never a big fan of the original Candyman. But I agree; you can't have the film without Tony Todd.

Then again... Hate to say it, but I wonder if I'd like the remake better...

So far, the only remake of any movie I've enjoyed, was The Hills Have Eyes. The original wasn't all that, though.

I feel the same way about both of those movies, actually.

Also, honestly, I liked the remake of The Grudge better than the original. I felt as though Takashi Shimizu took the opportunity to give his film some much-needed editing.

I agree.. I thought TCM was a great remake.. I watched the original when I was young and it scared the shit out of me and the remake did very much the same...

Word. That remake was close to perfection on the bad ass meter.

Oddly enough, I fell asleep during that one. It was boring to me...

This is so incredibly stupid. "Candyman" is not even 20 years old yet and they want to do a remake. Hollywood has totally run out of ideas.

No they just don't want to spend money on new boring scripts when they can use old just as boring scripts... it is quite genious actually.
