Hercules features are like buses -- you wait decades for one and then two show up at once. No sooner has Peter Berg's Hercules: The Thracian Wars been announced then a Russian strongman reveals plans of his own for the mythical legend.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor/producer/bodybuilder Alexander Nevsky is currently developing Hercules: The Beginning, a $12m feature that will explore the origins of the character.
Nevsky, who relocated to Los Angeles 10 years ago to pursue a career in film, will assume the title role and also produce through his own company, Hollywood Storm.
Actors who have previously played Hercules include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno, Tate Donovan (who provided the voice for Disney's 1997 animated feature) and TV star Kevin Sorbo.
