Now I've watched countless horror movies, some of which are pretty brutal, but I've never been as truly scared as when I heard about this. (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hx-mB9K812hwZqPx4HhsRsgjT7YwD92969T80) If you don't feel like reading, I'll summarize. A man was attacked on a Greyhound bus by some wacko. stabbed, gutted and beheaded. That news in general is not so shocking really, but to find out it happened in Canada was that scariest thing that I can honestly remember.

I take Greyhounds whenever I travel anywhere distant, and I often take them alone. I just feel they are safer as a commercial bus line. This kind of shit just doesn't happen in Canada. So here I am, really freaked out and on the internet looking for a news report to clarify what I heard, and give a motive to make this all a little less fucked. What do I find? This article. (http://canadianpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5h4aS0HJjNUa9b7BceudWneb1Jv1A)

Now I'm scared and pissed about that article (I'm sorry, I know not all American's are douche bags, but you guys are used to gun toting crazies on every corner. We're used to the rare shooting in a big city.)

On top of all that, my bus trip to see some friends in Toronto is cancelled because my parent's don't trust Greyhound anymore.

Grrrr.

My wife took a 14 hour Greyhound ride to see me once and she was perfectly safe. You'll always have sick and twisted people out there and they'll manage to strike out no matter what precautions you take.

Oh I'd be taking the bus if I didn't know how worried my mom would be. but seriously, last time I remember anything bad happening in Canada was a shooting at a Quebec school I think. Robert Pickton. and Bernardo and Homolka who lived a 15 minute drive from me and bought the cement they used to encase bodies, not even a mile from my house. I was just a few years old when that happened but my mom wouldn't let me outside alone until I was 12 because of it. She's a little paranoid.

just made me mad that people would say Canadians are wusses, and we should be hitting this guy with our purses. Sorry but that's not safe.

Welcome to American Life, we hear this sick shit alot on the news. And yeah, we're all a little crazy. But listen, you said it yourself, this shit hardly ever happens in Canada. So it just goes to say, you have a better chance of not getting killed on a bus right after one just happened.

Stuff like that happens all over the world. You should see some of the stuff that happens over in Iraq and in South America. Some of the stuff that happens there makes what happend on the bus seem very tame.

I was reading a thing on the web earlier where a man had did the same thing to a girl in Africa a year or so ago. They had pics of it and needless to say it was pretty graphic and disturbing that a human can do that to another.

I find those american comments hilarious, especially when the 9/11 flights were hijacked with wire cutters.

Things like this happen, this just happened to happen on a greyhound bus. I don't think it's got anything to do with the bus. It would have happened either way, just somewhere else. I'd say you're pretty safe.

That's a pretty rough way to die though. Geez. Poor guy. I hope he died early on because that's something no living thing should have to go through.

Seriously, Psycom is right. Canada is ridiculously safe and stuff like that only happens in Canada like once every 50 years. So, this is the time to travel because nothing bad will happen for a long time. Canada made it's 50 year quota.

Plus, you know Greyhound is going to take more preventive measures now just like the airlines did here for 9/11. So go on your bus trip, you'll probably even get a discounted bus ticket now or something.

Just be aware of your surroundings, use common sense and stay away from sketchy people. Sit in the front of the bus.

Not just in America. EVERYWHERE! The airlines are annoyingly safe now. Yeh, i know it's safer but still. You're pretty much not allowed to cough on a plane anymore.

Yeah but this is a North American company, so other than Canadia and Mexico its not going to effect anybody else.

No, I'm not saying that the bus thing will effect everywhere, I was just making a comment on the fact that Pap said "here".

You know, America's really not as dangerous as people outside the US seem to think it is.

Sure there are some nasty places you wouldn't want to be in after dark, but even in the worst you can usually stay out of trouble if you don't go actively looking for it.

I'd rather visit some rough places in Detroit than in Thailand for instance...

New Zealand is not safe anymore.
Everyday now there are at least 3 fatal shop robbings
2 fatal home invasions
some poor dude getting beaten and robbed
a few babies getting rushed to starship childrens hospital with
life threatening head injuries.
An everyday occurence.
And the criminals are getting younger and younger.
Now the gang lords use the young boys cos they cant be charged..

Fucken pathetic prick a week ago..he decided to enlist the help of his mates
and they drove around carparks, waiting for vulnerable old ladies and snatched
their handbags, knocking these poor souls to the ground and injuring.
Their spree lasted 4 days before they were finally caught.
When asked why ..this was his reply..
My mum has custody of my son..she wont let me have him back untill
I am financially STABLE..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like the logic of not being able to go on a bus because of what happened.

i guess there are some really tough choices to make if someone gets murdered in a home invasion ...

people react this way whenever it is something wierd, or that they hadnt thought of. It never occured to them before that they could be in danger on a bus, now that possibility exists in their world. Never mind the fact that it never happened before and will probably never happen again (*cough* 9/11 *cough*), the fact that it happened once now makes it something to be avoided or prepared for by most people.

Ah, the power of irrational fear...

My best friend used to work in the complaints department at one of the main offices for Greyhound. She has told me some amazing and quite disgusting stories about things that happen on the buses and in the terminals. They just weren't bad enough to make the news. I must say this one does top them all. She is quite happy she isn't there now.

New Zealand is not safe anymore.

If you feel safe because of the country you live in you're a nut. It doesn't matter where you live, what your job is, or what time you decide to go out for your little evening jog... some people are just evil and if they want to kill you they'll find a way.
