No, not that, but I did get your attention....and sorry, but this subject is way more boring......
I was watching this show about recycling and how there are only 5 companies in the entire world that recycle old mattresses.
Asked how many mattresses end up in landfills was said to be in the billions.
So, this idea popped into my head.
How about someone somewhere organize a local company in a town near you... where you can take your old worn out mattress and get a new one made from it?
I wouldn't mind sleeping on the couch for a week for that.
Does that sound like an ok idea?
And does anyone know where I would even began to get this idea out to people that could actually do something with it?

Would it be cost effective? I don't know if you have the logistics down yet but I certainly wouldn't pay close to the price of a new mattress just to have the one I own refurbished.

But what if you looooove the old mattress you have now, hmm?
I had that problem when i bought a new bed 3 years ago. My body had just got used to that mattress even tho it probably wasn't the best for my back.

Contact your local news station about it. They might, if you're lucky, run a story. Or the newspaper.

I can see that but once it's refurbished it will probably be changed forever...

The recycler takes your mattress apart and puts all the different pieces in piles...then they load all the seperate piles into trucks to get clean, reworked, put back together...
It would be like your mattress gets worn out and then getting a brand new mattress ...but made from your old mattress:D
Also, I am sure there would be some type of fee to get it done but nowhere near the price of a new mattress.
The thing is, I have no hope anymore that we can save our planet, but I do think that we have the technology and the creativity to not make another new thing that causes more pollution and waste.
I think that we have enough loose materials floating around to recycle EVERYTHING.

No always so clear cut..
Doesn't recycling paper have chemical byproducts from bleaching and isn't 90% of paper made from trees grown for just that purpose?
i alot of what we think we recycle end up in land fills any way. In Ireland where i live- a lot of those waste products we carfull sorted were shipped to spain and dumped in a land film there...

LOL..of course..
but as for your OP - i imagine the time/energy/cost to recyle a matress would make most ppl think twice about it...

I can't see them using the entire mattress when recycling it. They could definately use the frame right away, cause you would want the same size anyway. The springs are usually worn out but they could use "new" springs and then melt yours down to use for the next guy. That's all fine and dandy, but reusing the coushioning would be unhygenic and impossible in some cases. New mattresses are made with NASA technology, or space age memory foam blah blah blah. all patented.
A good idea in theory, but I think you would need to invest in a mattress from that company, that is made from recycled goods, in order for them to recycle it afterwards. Still a good plan and at the very least, less stuff will go in the landfill.

not really. people today are all for spending money for a cause. The biggest cause being global warming. There are people who will spend 40 bucks on a market bag so they don't have to use plastic bags that they get for free or for 10 cents. So why wouldn't they spend the money to keep junk out of the landfills?

Everything is recycled.
The padding is ripped out, ripped up and washed,
the people who have the actual recycle mattress companies just take everything APART, then they ship it to where ever it needs to go.
I was thinking maybe if we took that idea one step further and just started recycling our old mattresses and getting a newly MADE one from the old scrap...
Here's an example:
