ICONS OF HORROR
Actors, actresses, directors, writers, producers...people who shaped and contributed largely to the genre and made it the popular one among us fans as it is today.
Of course there are plenty. We will have a Top 100 + Honorable Mentions if we run out of space.
Commencement of entries begins from tonight. Think of about 15 of the best icons in the horror genre YOU think made the biggest impact on popularising and developing the genre, as it stands today.
PMs to my box. Emails - ravenavi@gmail.com.
Think over your options carefully. And if you have more than 15 suggestions...feel free. ;)
_____V_____
07-22-2008, 11:12 PM
And also, be prepared to write a small and short paragraph on your favorite actor/actress/director etc., describing his/her contributions and why you are particularly fond of him/her.
There is no deadline for entries at the moment. All lines stand open.

_____V_____
07-23-2008, 03:20 AM
Yep. No movie characters.
But the people who immortalised some of the unforgettable horror characters, and movies, ever put on the silver screen.
btw, already received quite a comprehensive list from NeverEnding. And it's half-complete so far...
I have a feeling its going to be a real tough 100 to decide.

Yeah it may seem that way V but I didn't mean it like that, I meant it like, I can't just come up with a list easily like everybody else here.
As for a reason to post, if I feel like saying something, then I'm going to say it. I felt like saying that I couldn't really contribute to this, and I said it. And when I said no disrespect I meant it. Excuse me for a bad choice of words.

I hold you to it! :)
After a rather large and comprehensive entry from Papillon Noir, the number of recs stands at a whopping 494.
Although, I have sorted it out. And the number of nominees vying for honors are actually - 161.
Out of which, 23 figure prominently in the majority of the entries.
I await more entries though - especially from Return, Urge, Alky, Despare, Austin, Crabby, Fortunato etc., which should make things (and nominees) a lot more interesting than they are right now.

Well, the secret ballot is underway and 6 ballots have been casted in so far.
No prizes for guessing who is leading the race for #1 choice for the Judge, and the rest are pretty evenly spread in a 12-judge race right now.
And, to add, the final entry before the deadline came from Fortunato who sent in a 51-man strong list. I ll be adding them up to the master list and underlining the obvious choices, before putting them in order for the Judges to review each choice.
This is going to be a compilation to cherish. Further developments to be reported as they continue to happen...

Well, now that deliberations have begun and Judges are busy with decisions and criticisms, comes a rather significant development...
One of our esteemed Judges (as chosen by HDC's secret ballot) has decided to opt out of the judging process because of prior commitments and lack of time...
He is our own Sean Keller aka Roderick Usher.
This is his message for all HDC-ers and other Judges of the panel :-
"I can't do this one
I'm slammed and am going to be slammed for at least three more weeks.
Sorry, I appreciate everyone's vote, but I simply have to bail on this gig."
Bit of a blow for Sean's fans here at HDC...anyway, the deliberations and judging continues between all the other panelists.

It took me a while, but I FINALLY got around to reading the list and I am impressed and happy with the final decisions. There are some honorees on there whom I WANTED to vote for, but wasn't sure were applicable in the sense of the list (ie Bosch, Dante, Poe, Lovecraft, Stoker)... I thought that they belonged on the List, but I interpreted the exercise to be restricted to directors, actors, screenwriters and not necessarily their inspirations. I am VERY glad that I was wrong in this interpretation and that the tribunal recognized them. Inspiration belongs on that list as much as the mediums do.
As for people needing blurbs, I know that I've promised V blurbs before, but there are a couple of icons on there whom I think deserve some attention. If I get myself out of my current rut, I might have to write a couple.
Excellent job organizing, V, and tribunal - great job with the honorees.

If they aren't spoken for, I'd love to do Vincent Price, Ed Wood and Dwight Frye :)
All yours, bud.
And Chrono, ask for a blurb, and you might get it. :)

Update - Vincent Price blurb is up on Page 3. Wonderfully written by The Return, not requiring one alphabet or symbol of editing. Great job!

if you happen to write one before then, go for it. but if not, i'll definitely do it.

Just added - Anthony Perkins blurb, written wonderfully (albeit a bit lengthy) by Roshiq, our friend from Bangladesh.
Many kudos to a great effort! (even when it needed PLENTY of editing) ;)
EDIT - Also added 10 Honorable Mentions at the end of the 100.
