I haven't seen Scream for years I do remember enjoying it when I first saw it. I might have to check it out again to decide if I like it still. I saw Scream 3 on television not to long ago and it fucking sucked (and I like some true cinematic shit!).

The Evil Dead 2
An American Werewolf In London
The Exorcist
Blair Witch Project
Frankenstien
The Wicker Man
Alien
The Others
Dawn of the Dead
Invasion of the Bodysnatchers
Coma
Pin
Interview with a Vampire
The Birds
and loads of others that I cant think of right now. One point I will make is that really good horror films dont date, and alot of films I enjoyed at the time are just too dated now to be on an essential list. Though I still enjoy them.

he he he knew that one would cause controversy. To be honest I really didnt like the look of it and had to be persuaded to go see it. Haunted house stories are always bad. I had never liked one ghost film I ever saw. Until I saw The Others. Not only is it extremely well made and acted, I found it genuinly creepy. Probably the best haunted house film ever.

I have to admit that some parts of Wes Cravens New Nightmare were kinda cool (like the four claw marks on the wall, caused by one of the earthquakes) but that wasn't scary at all. It was a comedy. Entertaining, though.
I loved The Others. When I first saw it I thought it was really creepy, and scary..
My list is:
-Scream (Classic lines, and cool deaths. I don't care if it's a teen movie, I love it)
-Night of the Living Dead (The original)
-A Nightmare on Elm Street
-Friday the 13th
-The Others
-The Ring
-Halloween
-Interview with the Vampire
-Psycho
-The Birds
-Bram Stoker's Dracula
-Poltergeist
