QT all set for Inglorious Bastards!

Following the Cannes announcement that Inglorious Bastards would be his next film, news on Quentin Tarantino's WWII ensemble piece has been coming thick and fast, with the juicy rumor nuggets hitting the web this morning.

Deadline Hollywood Daily reports that Tarantino is in talks with none other than Brad Pitt over a starring role in the film.

The rumour mill has been cranking out casting gossip for the film for literally years, with the disparate likes of Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Adam Sandler and Eddie Murphy all discussed for roles.

It has only been about seven years in the making but Quentin Tarantino's World War II project Inglorious Bastards is finally inching towards becoming a reality.

Deadline Hollywood Daily also reports that Tarantino's screenplay has now been submitted to all the major Hollywood studios except for Sony. The site also claims that Harvey Weinstein will produce but not finance the film; he formerly ran Miramax, where Inglorious Bastards was once set up at.

DHD, citing Tarantino, describes Inglorious Bastards "as a Spaghetti Western meets World II film that's an homage to the Dirty Dozen with a story about a group of soldiers on their way to be executed who get the chance of a reprieve."

Tarantino has previously said that he hopes to have Inglorious Bastards ready for a 2009 release and that it might be split into two films, a la his Kill Bill.

All things considered, this could turn out to be a real kickass actioner.

He is a big draw at the box-office. If QT has 1% chance of getting Arnie, he ll go for it.

One of the big three - Bruce, Sly or Arnie - will be in this one, for sure.

No- I can't stand him either, but the films I'll tolerate are different. If I was going to recommend an Arnold flick it would be either Hercules in New York or True Lies, because he's so rediculous in those films.

Quentin Tarantino's Weinstein Co. film "Inglorious Bastards," which has already garnered plenty of media coverage, is about to get more interesting.

The producers are searching for a co-financing partner to handle offshore territories for the WWII drama with intersecting storylines. Tarantino and Harvey Weinstein will meet with five studios from Friday through Tuesday.

After the director met Brad Pitt in France on Tuesday, those studios are already salivating over the expectation that Tarantino will land Pitt to play the key role of Aldo Raine. They'll be even keener if Tarantino's plan to meet Leonardo DiCaprio for another lead role goes well come Thursday. Tarantino wants DiCaprio to play the role of Hans Landa.

Several studios said the script is vintage Tarantino and they're eager to be in business with him at a reasonable price. DiCaprio and Pitt would be appearing in a Tarantino-helmed project for the first time, though Pitt previously spoke Tarantino-scripted dialogue in a small but memorable stoner turn in the Tony Scott-directed "True Romance."

Pitt, who read "Inglorious Bastards" before studios, seems a strong logistical fit for the project. The film will shoot this fall in Germany and also in France, where Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been residing.

Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Bastards" may soon find a home at Universal.

Studio is in negotiations to partner with the Weinstein Co. to bring the World War II drama to the bigscreen. Although deal points are still being ironed out, insiders say a pact is imminent.

The "Pulp Fiction" helmer and Harvey Weinstein met with five studios last week about co-financing the film, and it came down to Paramount and Universal. Par, which wanted to distribute the film in foreign territories, balked at a component of the pact that dealt with how grosses would be accounted given the way that Tarantino's "Kill Bill" contract was structured.

Tarantino recently met with Brad Pitt to play the role of Aldo Raine, though that deal is said to be a long way from closing. Pitt and Universal will need to mend fences following bad blood over Pitt dropping out of U's "State of Play" last year at the eleventh hour.

Shooting is scheduled to begin on "Inglorious Bastards" in the fall in Germany and France.

Quentin Tarantino may have found his first Inglorious Bastard in the shape of horror director Eli Roth.

According to Variety, the Hostel helmer is in talks to play Nazi-hunter Sgt. Donnie Donowitz -- a role that should suit the Red Sox-loving Roth well as the character's weapon of choice is a baseball bat.

As previously reported, Brad Pitt is the current favourite to play leader of the men on a WWII mission Aldo Raine, although Tarantino has reportedly decided to cast a German actor as SS Col. Hans Landa, a role originally ear-marked for Leonardo DiCaprio.

Inglorious Bastards is set to shoot later this year, with The Weinstein Co. and Universal Pictures overseeing.

Brad Pitt has closed his deal to star in "Inglorious Bastards," the WWII drama that Quentin Tarantino will direct for the Weinstein Co. and Universal.

Additionally, Nastassja Kinski is in early talks to play one of the sole female roles in the film. Casting the German-born actress jibes with Tarantino's habit of resuscitating dormant careers. Kinski, who has stayed away from mainstream American films for nearly a decade, would play a German movie queen.

Much of the pic's dialogue is in French or German, and subtitles will be used, though Pitt will speak English in his role as a Tennessee hillbilly who assembles a team of eight Jewish-American soldiers to take on the Nazis.

Simon Pegg, David Krumholtz and B.J. Novak are also in talks to join the project. Pegg would play a British lieutenant, while Krumholtz and Novak would play Pitt's underlings.

Pic begins production Oct. 13 in Germany. Tarantino, who wrote the script, is aiming to complete the film and have it ready for next year's Cannes Film Festival. Lawrence Bender is producing, with Erica Steinberg and Harvey and Bob Weinstein as executive producers. Pilar Savone is associate producer.

Deal puts Pitt back in business with Universal; apparently he and the studio have patched things up following his last-minute exit from "State of Play" late last year.

Under the terms of Tarantino's deal, he receives 20% of first-dollar grosses. That percentage can be reduced if a first-dollar gross star like Pitt joins the cast, though it's unclear if Tarantino is ceding any of his points to the star.

Bender said casting should be complete in about a week or two. Eli Roth will play Sgt. Donnie Donowitz, and Tarantino is locking in the other actors to play the soldiers who make up the Bastards team. Tarantino regular Tim Roth had been in contention to join the cast but couldn't work out the scheduling because of his upcoming TV series "Lie to Me."

While Pitt will be working for the first time with Tarantino as director, he does have on his resume a small but memorable turn as a stoner in the Tony Scott-directed "True Romance," a script that Tarantino wrote between "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction."

Yesterday, IGN reported via The Hollywood Reporter that Brad Pitt had officially signed on to play the lead role in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards.

But according to Variety, several other key roles are also in the process of being filled -- this time by the likes of Simon Pegg, Nastassja Kinski, and David Krumholtz.

Pitt is set to play a Tennessee hillbilly who puts together a group of Jewish-American soldiers to attack Nazis during WWII. Pegg (whom audiences previously saw in Edgar Wright's Hot Fuzz, as well as the romantic comedy Run Fat Boy Run) might play a British lieutenant, while Krumholtz would join the previously-announced Eli Roth and B.J. Novak as another one of Pitt's foot soldiers.

Kinski is in talks for one of the film's very few female roles, a German movie queen.

Tarantino's film borrows its title from Enzo Castellari's 1970s war film of the same name, but uses it as a jumping off point to explore his own love of exploitation and war movies.

Mike Myers has been recruited by Quentin Tarantino to join the ensemble cast of "Inglorious Bastards," the Tarantino-scripted pic that the Weinstein Co. and Universal will put into production Oct. 13 in Germany.

Myers will play British Gen. Ed Fenech, a military mastermind who takes part in hatching a plot to wipe out Nazi leaders.

Brad Pitt recently committed to star in the film, along with Eli Roth, and Tarantino is also courting Simon Pegg, Nastassja Kinski, David Krumholtz and B.J. Novak.

''Much to our mutual disappointment, I won't be appearing in QT's forthcoming Inglorious Bastards due to insurmountable scheduling difficulties. We really tried to make it work but in the end, it just was not possible without severe ramifications elsewhere. I'm trying to remain upbeat, as Tom Selleck said "Who the hell is Indiana Jones anyway?""

So, ah, that leaves, erm, Mike Myers as the film's only light relief?

"Inglorious Bastards" writer-director Quentin Tarantino has set thesps Diane Kruger, Christoph Waltz and Paul Rust in the Weinstein Co./Universal drama.

Pic begins production Oct. 13 in Germany.

The trio join Brad Pitt, Eli Roth, Mike Myers, Michael Fassbender, B.J. Novak and Samm Levine.

Kruger ("National Treasure") plays German actress Bridget Von Hammersmark, who figures prominently in a plot to sabotage the Nazis. It is a role for which Nastassja Kinski was first mentioned.

Waltz, who is best known in Germany for his television work, has landed the role of Col. Hans Landa, who is the primary antagonist in the drama.

The Weinstein Company (TWC) and Universal Pictures have announced that Academy Award-winning director Quentin Tarantino 's World War II epic, Inglorious Bastards, starring Brad Pitt, will open domestically August 21, 2009.

The announcement was made by Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of TWC and David Linde, co-chairman of Universal Pictures who are partners in the film. TWC and Universal are co-financing and co-presenting the film with TWC handling domestic distribution and Universal handling international distribution. International release dates will be announced shortly.

The ensemble cast of Inglorious Bastards includes Brad Pitt, Diane Kruger, Mélanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz, Eli Roth, Samm Levine, B.J. Novak, Til Schweiger, Christian Berkel, Michael Fassbender, Mike Myers, Rod Taylor, and Cloris Leachman.

Inglorious Bastards begins in German-occupied France, where Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema.

Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as "The Bastards," Raine's squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own...
