MGM studio has announced plans to remake another '80s feature in the shape of Red Dawn.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Red Eye scribe Carl Ellsworth will pen the script, which will update the story up to modern day.
The original was set against the backdrop of an invasion of America by Russia and Cuba, and revolved around group of youngsters - including Charlie Sheen and Patrick Swayze - banding together to fight back.
"The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we're in," explains Ellsworth. "As Red Dawn scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again?"
Don Bradley, who worked as second unit director on Spider-Man 3, The Bourne Ultimatum and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, will make his directorial debut with the film.
