And last night I finished watching Casino Royale. The hard, gritty and humane touch given to Daniel Craig as 007 was a welcome change, indeed. I thought Brosnan had lost some of his touch (and interest) in the last couple of Bond movies, and Craig will do just fine as a perfect replacement.
All eyes are on Quantum of Solace, for the final verdict.
Anyway, I have watched all of the Bond movies till date. Right from Dr. No to Casino Royale, its been a very interesting journey of avid movie-viewing. Bond is a big part in shaping my childhood movie-viewing experiences, and I practically grew up watching him and his movies evolve - from the dashing and stylish Sean Connery to the suave and sophisticated Brosnan - they all scored in some way or another.
I know some of you are huge 007 fans. Some, like Urge, have watched through the series with their children too.

Who do you think made the perfect Bond, out of the seven who portrayed him?
Sean Connery
David Niven
George Lazenby
Roger Moore
Timothy Dalton
Pierce Brosnan, or
Daniel Craig
And which Bond movie do you like the most till now?
For me, 007 has always been synonymous with Sean Connery. His mannerisms, his personality and his on-screen presence made for THE perfect Bond.
Ever.
And my all-time fav Bond movie - Thunderball, with Goldfinger a close second. Both movies much ahead of their times (technically and script-wise), and both movies had Sean Connery in his absolute prime, and at his absolute best, as "Bond...James Bond" 007.

My favorite Bond is You Only Live Twice. To me it exemplifies the genre. Donald Pleasence as Blofeld is awesome.

My favorite became Daniel Craig. And my favorite is Casino Royale. I think it redefined all the films in a new way that worked.
Roger Moore is my second favorite, and my second favorite Bond film is The Spy Who Loved Me, or From Russia With Love.

I dig it...Christopher Lee was good in his role....I haven't seen it in years.

Wow. I thought nobody liked thunderball. It's probably my least favourite.
As for the Bonds, I loved Sean Connery's sleakness but I still prefer George Lazenby, who was lucky in that he starred in one of the Best Bonds yet. Shame he didn't stay on, but if he had, Roger Moore wouldn't have arrived, and he was my favourite. I love how he brought a bit of humour to it, but not too much, and just how English he was.
Timothy Dalton...well...I don't like to talk about his Bond years. Too depressing. Pierce was good, a bit like an updated connery. Daniel Craig too has made Bond good, although I don't think he can be put against the others as he is a completely different character to them. The rest were different but similar at the same time.
Niven can't really be judged against them either as his adaptation of Casino Royale was more of a spoof.
My favourite Bond so far has to be The Spy who Loved Me.

Any fans of Man with the Golden Gun? I think it's very underrated.
it was the 1st Bond i ever saw - made me an instant fan and at the time - a big fan of Roger Moore as Bond.
Connery was good ... but as Roger was 'my first' i never made as strong as a connection with him.
(although to be fair - The Roger Moore Bond films nearly murdered the franchise (Moonraker ... yikes !)
I liked what Timothy Dalton was doing with the character - back to basics in part - but Daniel Craig has redefined Bond or rather - properly defined him - as far as the novels go.
Bond isnt a pretty boy - he's 6'1" - cruel looking - no nonsense.
I hope they maintain the integrity that started with his 1st outing.
Gonna have to go with Sean Connery and Goldfinger. I also enjoyed The MAN With The Golden Gun. I thought Pierce made a good Bond and I'm really happy with Craig's take on it....looking forward to the next one.

I've always dug Roger Moore in the role since I saw A View To A Kill when I was 5 or 6. My dad would always hire them when I was a kid.
Timothy Dalton was pretty underated... The Living Daylights was killer.
I think I'll watch a bunch of these soon because my memories pretty hazy on them... been at least 10 years since I watched a bond flick.

You know, I've never actually seen a single Bond film in it's entirety, barring Thunderball when I was way too little to remember any of it.
I own a few of them - like 5 or 6 - and I keep meaning to go through them, but I've just never gotten around to it. I should make that a priority.

Any fans of Man with the Golden Gun? I think it's very underrated.
For sure!
Other than having Christopher Lee in one of the most memorable Bond villain roles, it has my all-time favorite stunt scene - the car flipping over the broken bridge!
And of course, who could forget Nick Nack, and Sgt. Pepper from Texas?! :D
Connery was good ... but as Roger was 'my first' i never made as strong as a connection with him.

Moore brought a humorous "one-liner" sort of attitude to 007, which didn't fit that well with Bond's persona. Sean was more of the lean-mean, edgy type with a powerful charisma which suited Bond better. Having said that, I must say Craig's take has revived the memories of Sean's outing in the opening scenes of Diamonds Are Forever...
Dalton was shaping up quite nicely, but the movies didnt do as well as the producers wanted them. I d say he was pretty competent in his portrayals.

Don't think so. I have the posters of the original artworks though. And the complete Box Set, minus Casino Royale.
My favorite artwork is the Octopussy one.

I have to agree with the first post. My fave Bond by far is Connery, and Thunderball leads the list. I put Goldfinger right behind it, followed pretty closely by Golden Eye and Casino Royale is great also. Can't forget From Russia with Love.
There are too many fine Bond girls, but Ursula Andress in the first one is sweet. Domino in Thunderball is fine, and so is that helicopter pilot in A View to a Kill. Trying to choose a favorite is like trying to decide which raisinet is the best one in the box - impossible.
Another good question is- Who is your fave Bond enemy? Ernst Stavro Blofeld is an easy choice, but I have to go with Emilio Largo (partly why I like Thunderball best). Max Zorin is great - love Walken. I didn't see if that question was posed earlier in the thread, sorry of I missed that...

Daniel Craig is much closer to the books. Sean Connery changed Bond from the books into the sleek, smooth man that he was for pretty mucht the rest of it.
I lost all respect for Sean Connery when I saw Never Say Never Again. He could have turned it down. It was Roger's turn in the role but he still did it.
Favourite Bond Girls
*Pussy Galore I think is a great Bond girl (and the name!) (Goldfinger)
*Teresa Draco (On her majesty's secret service)
Favourite Themes
*Live and let die
*Goldfinger
*For your eyes only
*On her Majesty's Secret Service
Favourite Villain
*Blofeld (Possibly Bonds worst enemy)

Forgot about the theme song. The Chris Cornell song from Casino Royale is a great song. That jumped to #1 for me right away.

My favorite bond villian was Max Zorin .. he was completely nuts.
my favorite bond girl is Michelle Yeoh
the best bond score is You Only Live Twice.
Traditionally a lot of the score music is based on the opening theme song .. replayed instrumentally - slowed down for the romantic scenes, etc.
I think John Barry's You Only Life Twice was lush and gorgeous and played well throughout the film.
as far as theme songs go - anything by Shirley Bassey (i think she did 3 of them ?)
Mr. Grady
07-08-2008, 12:22 PM
I mentiond that helicopter pilot before - she was in Moonraker, not View to a Kill.
Agree on Shirley Bassey, she did Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever (a good movie even though Connery was older), and Moonraker. You gotta like Tom Jones' Thunderball, too. I pretty much like everything about Thunderball.
I was disappointed in Robert Carlyle, that character could have been made so much more formidable with the complete tolerance for pain, etc., but they made him somewhat weak & subordinate. Not as ruthless. Zorin was ruthless and nuts (I like that).

Max Zorin, absolutely.
Christopher Lee's Francisco Scaramanga was pretty good too.
Pleasance's take on Blofeld in You Only Live Twice was a big high point of the movie. Although, I hated how Charles Gray made Blofeld look like a complete wussy in Diamonds Are Forever.

A cameo you say? Yep, but memorable even today. For all her troubles, she ends up flying out of the window plenty of storeys down...and SPLASH!
"Nice throw," Bond comments.
"I didn't know there was a pool down there," comes the retort from the thug.
