View Full Version : My Hairless Kitty Has Come Home

At long last! The boyfriend and I drove to Long Island Friday night, stayed over at a quality EconoLodge hotel, and picked up our Sphynx kitten yesterday.

Here is little Ripley, at 9 1/2 weeks old, scooped up from the breeder's:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v623/Chronogrl/ripley_me.jpg

She spent the 4-hour drive home curled up in a fleece blanket in my lap (I couldn't leave her in the pet carrier):

And now, after what I thought was bonding, she's contendedly hidden under our bed and has barely ventured out. :(

I know, I know - I need to have patience with my new kitten... But I just want to play with her!

Isn't she the cutest ugliest thing you've ever seen?!

She's er...prett- Oh I can't do it! I can tell little white lies but seriously, that thing is scary! I'm sure she'll be fun to play with though. Maybe. Possibly.

You'll wake up and that thing will be walking back and forth on you with its bony little cat hands, and it will say, "Mwuff! Mwuff!! Meeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh" or something like that. And then you will run screaming from the room and right out of the house, and you will be afraid to go back inside until the sun comes up.

This is what your "darling pet" will do to make your life better.

Are you sure it's a kitten and not just a really small really old cat?

LOL

I <3 ALL of you. This thread seriously made me laugh out loud.

Thanks for all the congratulations - I'm glad to get her home, too.

And I agree with Urge... My first impression was that she DEFINITELY looked like Yoda, especially in that picture I took...

And LOL at massacre man... That Alien pic really made me giggle.

I just LOVE people's reactions when I tell them about my cat. It generally goes like this:

Me: I'm getting a cat!
Person: Awwwwwww!
Me: A hairless cat!
Person: .... Oh, that's... Nice.
Alternative Reaction: Ewwww.
Alternative Reaction: Those cats are hideous.

This was the first time that I've seen a Sphynx Cat in person... It's so bizarre to pet a hairless cat... You're just... petting skin... She loves having her neck, face, and head rubbed. :)

There will definitely be more pictures to come. In a surprising turn of events she suddenly came out from under the bed, immediately identified me as Mom with purrs and kneading (my chest and shoulders are scratched up with her little talons - this thing has SHARP claws) and then she started to scream when I left the room.

Of course I reinforce the behavior - I come when she calls (great, she already has me trained).

So apparently Sphynx cats are part Siamese... This little thing has quite a set of lungs on her. Now that she's braver I anticipate being kept up pretty late tonight... Yes, fellows, that's to say I will most likely be kept up late giving my hairless pussy LOTS of attention... :p

Actually I love kitties, all kitties. I have three cat friends and they are my cute little babies. I buy them all sorts of tasty victuals.

You should post pics, Crabby!

She's definitely my baby... I took three days off from work to be at her beck and call... And they called me "crazy"... I'll show them crazy!...

I seriously hope somebody other than myself has seen the Friends episode where Rachel got one of those cats. Funny stuff.

Cute cat too. :)

As much of a cat lover as I am, I never had an attraction to this breed. Sorry, Chrono! But, congrats on your new baby! I'm glad she's out from under the bed - I was going to tell you you just have to have patience when you first bring them home and let them get used to their surroundings. I've had cats all my life, so if you need any advice, feel free to post me a message or send me a PM.

No apologies - Most people are slightly repulsed by the breed. We choose a Sphynx because the boyfriend is allergic... And even if his problem is the dander, the Sphynx cat requires weekly bathings, so that should alleviate the allergic reaction... Hopefully. And if I have questions, I'll definitely drop you a line. :)

I wasn't sure that I'd like the breed either, but she has the sweetest disposition...

I actually brought her to the Vet today and the Vet was thrilled. She was like, "First time I've seen one of these! Mind if I bring her around?" So she carried little Ripley around the office to show her off... She's the cutest thing; she keeps attacking my laptop because of the clicking of the keyboard.

You just can't resist, can you? ;)

...

I finally got some pictures of her awake. There's still a little blurry, but at least you can see those beautiful baby blues:

Being a kitten is such a rough life.

Note the skin hanging off of the bones. Our new nickname for her is our little Cornish game hen.
