Have you ever just been flabbergasted by a friend or relative and their taste in movies? I'm not saying that you knock their opinion but maybe you just can't understand it? For example, my mom signed up with Netflix because my brother gave her some free trial thing. I was browsing through her ratings and noticed that Citizen Kane, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, The Big Lebowski, 2001, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Tommy Boy all received ONE star from her. I just don't get it...

Maybe she got confused and thought one star was the best rating? *shrug*

Nope, we had them over for dinner one night and I asked her about her ratings... she said she hated those movies. I can understand how somebody may not LOVE those films but 1 star? I just don't get it...
Thats why they make vanilla & chocolate

Life becomes useless and insipid when we have no longer either friends or enemies.
It is better to stay silent and be thought a fool, than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.
Teamwork…means never having to take all the blame yourself.
I no longer have the fear of being alone. It’s cool to find out that you don’t need a boyfriend to be happy.
Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid all together.
If you don’t know where you’re going how do you expect to get there ?

That’s the secret to life… replace one worry with another…
It’s faith in something and enthusiasm for something that makes life worth living.
A friend is someone who has the same enemies you have.

hmm family ...
my wife loves crass comedies - preferably with someone getting hurt (Dumb and Dumber .. stuff like that) which i also like - but thats ALL she likes.
my kid - likes everything ..
my friends :
my best buddy at work loves all film and had a healthy love for horror
most of my closest friends do - but not just horror films - all good films regardless of genre.
my friend the film critic has almost the same exact taste in film that i do..
i've never had the "ohhh you like horror - you're weird" experience because i dont associate with people like that .. they tend to be fairly weak minded.
the people who dont like horror either respect my tastes or are afraid to say anything negative.

Some of those cliche lines don't even fit the circumstance. :p
Anyway, I understand her not liking those movies I just can't see someone HATING all of them. Especially when she gives Are We There Yet? a 5. Ah well, just venting, my own mother, the one who showed me Dawn of the Dead for the first time... rates it a 1. You just don't know some people as well as you thought you did.

I hate three of them. Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Big Lebowski and Tommy Boy are all movies I like. I find 2001 as sterile as a stainless steel condom and Citizen Kane violently overrated.

Which I can see, I just didn't think I'd ever meet somebody who hated ALL of them.

most of them would present challenges for a casual movie viewer ... except tommy boy ... but if you hate David Spade ... it might be a tough movie to like for some.

Yeah, that is kind of weird. It's such a diverse selection to disapprove of.

I frequently have this kinda experience. When a guest or a friend visits after a long time and after giving a look to my dvds they usually said that shit.
As they have no guts to watch this films so sometimes I like to start telling them the stories...like few days ago I just started to telling the synopsis of Funny Games & Inside to few of my relatives and they right away started to yelling at me...."this mindless freak is definitely going to be a psycho one day by watching those bad movies...":D btw, my elder brother & his wife once hated to see horror films but now they almost every night ask me for a new horror dvd. :)

None of my family members have a similar taste in movies to me, if they do sit down and watch one of my movies with me they'll usually say it's "Weird" or "Stupid" as my mom did with A Clockwork Orange.
I only have a couple of friends who have a similar taste in movies to me, one of my friends has a very similar taste in movies to me, but the rest don't.

There are a couple of members of my family that think I am a bit off, but they love me anyway....;) My grandmother has always worried a bit about my taste in books and movies, I think. Luckily I have a cousin that is a horror fan as well....so I am not the only disturbed one....
My parents baffle me when it comes to movie taste. I never know what my dad is going to like, or hate. It depends on his mood I suppose. I do know he hates most slasher films. He loves westerns and action films, mostly, likes quite a few older horror films. My mother....well, she isn't much into the movies, she prefers books. She'll swear she wants to see something....then disappears halfway through. But she loved Pulp Fiction...haha. Its the only movie, except for just about anything Hitchcock, I can say for sure she likes.
My kindred spirit when it comes to movies though is my mom's best friend......she is probably the only person (okay, okay, besides my husband) that gets my love of horror, and my love of....um, bad cinema. She is the one that sent me my first 50 pack of horror classics.... and she is the one who bought me a copy of Plan 9. I have been told that she, and her husband, has a movie collection I would kill for...haha. One day, I have to visit her, and check it out. But she lives in California.
