That's just your opinion vs. everyone who loves him. It's just an opinion. If you want an explanation, you're going to get many different answers.
My answer: Ash is a great character and there has never been anyone to equal him. He's not exactly a hero. He's not your archtypical character that you see in EVERY other film. He's a jackass/regular guy stuck in a situation and whooping some ass. And because he's Bruce Campbell.

Sorry, I love you avenger...but a wise man once said...
"Any time you say something sucks around someone who disagrees, they try to validate their taste in shitty music/movies/clothing by reminding you that you still only speak for yourself, as if their opinions are in jeopardy of being monopolized by your own. Everyone already knows it's my opinion by virtue of the fact that I said it, no need to restate the obvious you dopey twat."

Awww, I love you too Digital. Hehe.
You asked a question, I gave you an answer. It is the obvious answer though, and you were SO ready with that quote. LOL. I strongly doubt your opinions about Ash, nor anything else, will ever infect my own.
But I DID give you a real answer, despite opinions. I did present a fact: Ash is unique b/c he is a fallible hero. An extremely fallible hero.
Good quote BTW, I'll have to remember that.

Yeah, I forgot to edit my post about you answering the question about him being a 'real person'. Thanks. But I still want more answers.

Ash is just the everyman you can relate too. Bruce Campbell was born for the role and just plays it perfectly with just the right balance of pathos and humour. Oh and he has a big funny chin and a chainsaw arm and he's always covered in blood - it's just a fun character.

When ED1 came out Bruce Campbell was interviewed in Fango. He said something like "Ash is a useless geek who becomes a useful geek." I think a lot of people identify with that.

Exactly. Joe-everyguy characters usually are popular. I think that's why Spiderman was always so popular. He's just a nerd who got bitten by a bug. Unlike Superman, who is completely unattainable, or Batman who is a billionaire.

Campbell doesn't take himself seriously- he's invented a character-type w/ the Evil Dead series that is uniquely his own. Before his role as Ash there has not been any other horror film protagonists to compare or measure him to. He's in a class by himself. I don't love love love Ash, but I do like like like his character alot. I don't hate him to the point of eating broken glass as an alternative, I'd be more willing to say I'd eat broken chunks of cement.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I like him.

I adore Ash. I mean the role is classic/hillarious/catchy. It's hard to explain...I simply love him...Not to mention I think he's quite sexy in those movies. Bruce Campbell is my favorite horror actor ::motions to the autobiography, posters, DVDs, and videogames in her bedroom

I know why, it took guts for him too go infront of a camera after sawing off a shitgun with a chainsaw attached to his arm, and saying the best line any movie ever had..."Groovy."

i didn't mean to say "shitgun" i meant "shotgun" but i am making a good point about ash being the best, right?
