Prequal to Nightmare on Elm Street

I remember hearing Robert England in an interview one time say he would like to do this. Have it before Freddy got burnt. My question is does anyone think it would work? I know I would love to see this happen.

I heard him mention this on the Freddy vs Jason DVD.

It sounds like something that would be on The Lifetime channel for women. I wouldn't see it has a horror really. I mean, a guy murdering children, kind of....erm...old. Recycled if you will.

I can agree with Digital on that. I also think that all of the fans know the story so damn well that they would have to put some good surprises in there. It would have to be more than a conventional serial killer flick. We've seen too many of them lately.

i think if they add more to what we already know about how he became freddy then it might work but most of us know the child murder, boiler room killing freddy already. so there wouldn't be much for them to add or at least i don't think there would be. but the possibilty of it working is prob 50/50

if they add new stuff it could come out as a good thriller maybe, but no horror
most fans would find it lame, since they are used to the cool things freddy does in the dreams

i think that it would b reallyl cool and they oculd make it crazy suspenseful and really terrrifying! In Fredy vs. Jason when u saw freddy back in the day i found him really really freaky! i think that it could almost change everyones opinion on him because its so much more real when he's still human u know! its like wow this guy really is evil! hes not just that killer in our dreams who always cracks jokes before he kills us!

Eh, but haven't they already beat Freddy into the ground enough as it is. I mean, there's how many Nightmare on Elm Streets? 8? Then Freddy v Jason. Maybe it should just be left the way it is now.

Plus, we already know Freddy's whole background from the other movies. Making a prequel to reiterate things we already know would be kinda boring.

Actually there's 7 Nightmares plus FvJ.

The big problem with a prequal IS that everyone knows his background. There would, no doubt, be things left out or added that would conflict with everything we all already know. This ALWAYS happens in prequals. The creator loses sigfht of what he has done in the past, and/or doesnt have the attention to his own detail that an outside observer does.

I think the only way for them to make a great prequal is to start from his mother getting raped to him gettin burned. So basically have it be a story about his mother, rather than Freddy be the focus of it.

Well until later in the movie when he's an adult.

The prequel will never happen because killing chldren is too much of a taboo to make a big Hollywood film about. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer almost couldn't get distribution because of it...

It's probably going to happen... According to CountingDown.com A Freddy prequel and a Jason sequel are in talks as of now.

I don't know if I'd really enjoy a prequel to the Nightmare movies, Freddy wouldn't be his dreamwalking self, and I think we'd be treated to a very basic slasher since he wouldn't have his dream powers.

I guess it would be interesting for some more backstory... But that's probably about it.

I love The Nightmare on Elm Street series and own every video. I have always wanted to see a prequel of Freddy pre-death. See him when he first starts, see the townsfolk wondering who's killing the kids, see the trial, see them plot his execution. Come on, that would work for me.

Really, when you think about it, they could make an entire series of Fred Krueger: Pre-Freddy days. Fred Krueger was one fucked up guy. Starting with his mom, go into his childhood through adulthood, into the killings and finally his own death. That would be good for at LEAST 4 movies.

I think this would be very cool to see, but I don't think it would necessarily be a part of the Nightmare series. It would have be something separate - have a life of it's own. Freddy could spawn 2 totally different series and each would be righteous in its own way.

Me personally I would rather see a NOES sequel(part 8)than a prequel.Freddy's Dead pretty much nailed the pertinent facts:he was a bastard child,he had a fucked up childhood,he killed children,and he had a daughter which I really dont think that mattered much but on the bright side,Freddy films are still being made which is a good thing.

Movies are scarier when based upon "real life" serial killers/urban legends - they seem more real, something u can realate to. It's always interesting 2 see how they became they evil bastard they did, but we know most of Freddy's story. I think it'll work tjough, as it's different. It'll make a lotta bucks anyway.
