I just wanted to throw this out there and see if there is any interest.
Back in '95, i saw Judge Dredd in the theater. Not the best movie ever, and I am not a big fan of Stallone, but I enjoyed it. I had a hard time, however, with the thought of the Lawgiver gun that he carried. how could a pistol carry the 1000 rounds of 4 different types of amma that it seemed to have?
That lead me to thinking in myD&D geeky way about extra-dimensional space. Its a concept, in Roleplaying games mostly, of storing stuff in another plane of existance. similar in conept to looney toons, when buggs bunny paints a black hole then jumps into it.
So i thought, what is we took the concept of the astral plane, as it is presentedin D&D (a border dimension that connects all others, inifinite, timesless, but ultimately habitable), and applied it to a sci fi setting? I came up with a plot involving anorder of futuristic knights that were wiped out, and had guns instead of swords, and the ammo was held on the astral plane, so it was essentially unlimited. I had a damsel in distress and all.
That eveolved very quickly, because i dont care for helpless damsel characters, and the "eradicated space knight" concept is already in existence: jedis.
So I changed it. Made the guy with the guns a mercenary who works for the greater good, came up with another charatcer (a cyborg) to be the knightly character, made the damsel a brlliant tactician...
And generally let my mind go free. I came up with a plot for an evil empire (a little different from star wars), an overall war plot. lots of good guys, lots of aliens, every standard fantasy race represented by an alien race, down to dark elves.
I decided it would be a fantasy world set in space and different dimensions. This has grown in my mind, and on paper for 13 years now. This is my epic.
i have been working on building a website for a while now to help me keep everything together, allow me to write and keep things organized, more or less a big application for myself.
But then i decided, wouldnt it be cool if i could share this with other people while i put it together?
SO, in the not too distant future, when the website is completed, and I have ll the tools in place for writing, i am going to open things up, and allow people to apply to sign in and watch as things unfold. As i detail the world and everything in it, and write the overall story, people (those accepted) wil be able to keep tabs on events, read the entries on monsters and vehicles, planets, so on, and provide some feedback.
I wanted to see if there waqs any interest, as people from here would most likely be my initial audience. So, does that sound like something anyone would be interested in? it is probably a month or two off from launch: there isa ton of programming to be done before it is finished, but I wanted to get the word out there. If there is some interest , i may post snippets of things here for starters.
Once the site is up, people would have to apply (there will be a form), and what will amount to a simple nondisclosure agreement, to cover my ass in case someone wanted to plagerize me, in which case i would own them and there children.
So, would anyone be interested in watching the inception of a scifi worls that already rivals star wars in size and scope?
