I'd like the under dog to survive in slasher horror I've just watched Hostel 2 and that dippy girl was the first to go.
horror has it exactly right if it makes you root for the characters, but why does the dippy one always have to die?

Well dippy means dumb yes? Dippy to me also means full of themselves and slightly naive. I think the slashers you're looking at have this idea of teaching morals. The people who survive horror movies are the self-aware ones who don't waste their life away drinking and having sex. Things that distract you in a time when you need to know everything you can about your surroundings.

Also I know I love to see the ditzy blonde go first. Chances are, so do the majority of viewers. Ratings and all that jazz.

I wouldn't say dippy is dumb and full of themself, its more quirky with character and they always get killed first:confused:

Shock value then, I guess. If they're really likable and then get killed really suddenly it's more likely to shock you.

I always thought the full of themself one goes first. Dippy kind of means acts a bit like Goofy (the disney character). Anyway, does it matter? And that character you mentioned from, hostel 2 is the kind of one that usually survives! I don't care which order they die in, as long as there' only one left who the killer (who was excellent at killing earlier) can never get with the many chances they get.
