Bloody_ribcut's avatar is driving me NUTS:

What movie is that creepy doll from? He says Alice, but I'm not sure which version of Alice he's referring to and I swear I saw that damn doll recently...

And, of course, he's offline now and I have serious impulse control and OCD... WHERE IS THIS DOLL FROM?!

Oh. That IS Alice. This one (http://imdb.com/title/tt0095715/).

What a douche. (<----- me)

I had watched it so long ago, but when I look at that image in the avatar I feel as though I just saw it... yesterday. I think I like your friend's edited video more than the original movie - the movie itself I found self indulgent and insipid. Overrated and could have been better considering Jan Svankmajer's eye for the absurd and dark.

It was really disappointing.

I was introduced to the movie through Netflix recommending it to me. With the Netflix blurb, how could I not watch it?! :

Czech director Jan Svankmajer's bizarre adaptation of Lewis Carroll's children's book is considered a classic of surreal cinema. After her stuffed rabbit opens a portal inside her dresser, Alice (Kristyna Kohoutová) crosses over into a warped world of gothic props, puppets and dead animals. Svankmajer gives the Caterpillar, the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat warped makeovers via stop-motion animation and stark cinematography.

Reading it now makes me want to Netflix the movie again.

Here's the thing. I appreciate European surrealist shorts and cinema, but it all feels the same to me - Gothic, surreal, dark, nihilistic... It would have served better as a short film rather than a whole movie, to tell you the truth. I turned it off because I was bored. And I really like the concept of a dark Alice in Wonderland; but this just didn't work for me.

The movie is completely silent broken with "Alice" speaking lines from the book (only delivered through a sharp edited cut to Alices lips, "I'm late, said the White Rabbit," for example). It was annoying and broke up the imagery.

It's worth a try because the imagery is strong, but it doesn't hold up on its own.
