Any fans out there?

I thought that the end of Season 3 was absolutely weak, but that the Season 4 opener was fantastic.

I would be happy to open up a BSG thread. Too few of me friends appreciate what an amazing show this truly is.

...

And I TOTALLY have a thing for Starbuck. BOY do I.

omg's the end of season 3 was fantastic and showed up lost for how slow it moves and how nothing is revealed, bsg got the trial done in an episode and so much more.

season 4 got off to a cracking start.

love the banner too, got it as my desktop, well a modified version of it anyway.

I too LOVE this show! I thought the end of season 3 was intriguing.

I haven't seen any of season 4 yet as I don't have cable. My fiance's dad tapes the episodes for us (since he actually has cable) and then we watch a few at a time, so it may be a few weeks until we see it.

Did anyone see the movie Battlestar Galatica: Razor? It tells the story of Battlestar Pegasus, it's really good! It also has some insights to Starbuck for Season 4.

I sort of wrote this show off as another "Stargate Atlantis" crappy scifi franchise, but from what I heard, that was a mistake. What do you guys think, is it any good?

Is that Edward James Olmos in that pic?

Are you serious?
You let a small factor like this, effect your perception of the show as a whole, from the get go? But hey, I guess being female, your fantasy is lost, hm?

I find it superior to the original series in every way, and yet again shows that the "reimagining" part can carry something far further than a remake.
Didn't like too much of season 3, but found I could get through it with little issue.
I like SOME of the twists, some I don't.., season 4 is very much an ongoing guessing game of "what might be/happen", and I like that.
Total turbulence, nothing is written in stone from this point onwards.

Yes i did. It wasn't just the fact that starbuck was now a woman. but her Character was stupid. I was a big fan of the old series. Was very excited when I heard that they we’re making a remake/redoing the show. But I just couldn’t stand the starbuck character who knows why maybe it’s my deep hatred of all things p.c . it wasn’t a secret homo fantasy about starbuck, as you obviously suffer from ( or otherwise it wouldn’t be at the forefront of your mind). Maybe….you like the new starbuck because now you can have a wank over starbuck without no homosexual guilt? Anyway doesn't matter now the show has now been dumped. hahahahahahahahahahahaha

Well, that's all you mentioned.

Was very excited when I heard that they we’re making a remake/redoing the show. But I just couldn’t stand the starbuck character who knows why maybe it’s my deep hatred of all things p.c .
...and you mention little more, just with more words.
I think the introduction of a female character was to again stray further from the original, and also because if you look at the cast of the original, as per many 70's and 80's show, the cast is predominately male...this phase is largely over and the percentage of females in major roles has shifted somewhat.
This is a common model for shows/movies nowdays, you may have noticed.
I don't think it's about "pc" much anymore these days - I think we're a little past that.

it wasn’t a secret homo fantasy about starbuck, as you obviously suffer from ( or otherwise it wouldn’t be at the forefront of your mind). Maybe….you like the new starbuck because now you can have a wank over starbuck without no homosexual guilt?

You've always got to assume I'm attacking you, huh?
I was actually referring to the kind've fantasy a young fella might have watching a show like this, yknow, wanting to BE the character and all...that link now gone with the gender change?
But hey, if you wanna put a gay spin on my words, you go right ahead - just don't put it on me, and say it's at the forefront of my mind?
Not everything has to be an argument.

Anyway doesn't matter now the show has now been dumped. hahahahahahahahahahahaha
Not exactly end of the world there...they've got the majority of the season left to resolve any outstanding storylines.

Honestly, I am so incredibly impressed with Battlestar's depiction of women. I generally find that television's depiction of women is patriarchal and stereotypical and when you see a strong female lead, it's either ironic, disproportionately manly, or just unbelievable to me. What I love about Starbuck is that she is a strong woman who is also feminine and sensitive. Also, while she is headstrong, she is also definitely flawed, in a very real sort of way (susceptible to hubris especially as well as an abundance of pride and at times self pity).

I think that president Rosalin takes the role of the stereotypical matriarch in a nonconventional sort of way. She is strong, sensitive, and, quite frankly can be a frakking bitch. I love her as the president and I also love the dynamic between her and Admiral Adalma as well as her and Starbuck.

Then you have Boomer, the classic sympathetic character, young mother, who is sympathetic but at the same time a warrior in her own right.

And that's only 3 of them. At first I wasn't sure about 6 (Caprica), but the way she was developed by the end of Season 2, I was so incredibly intrigued and finally started looking at her as something more than a 2-dimensional sexual embodiment of Evil and Temptation (ironically touting praise for the "One True God").

This is absolutely my favorite show on television and I am glad that this is the last season. While I thought that season 3 started incredibly strong, I thought that the writers had a lot of good ideas, but lost sight of the ensemble cast and how to handle the bigger themes and issues of the show (the fact that Balthar's Trial AND the 4 Reveal were resolved in two episodes - that's just poor planning when there should have been a more dramatic arch).

HOWEVER, I think that the first two episodes of Season 4 are strong (I am pleasantly surprised) and I hope that it goes out with a bang. It's exciting to see people who love the show here. I honestly think it's the best-written show on television and I am constantly impressed with it.

Wufong - I've never seen the original series, so I don't have a frame of reference, though I don't blame you for disliking the remake if you feel so strongly about the original. I just find it interesting; you are the first person who I've heard proclaim that the remake is worse than the original - most people say the opposite, but to each their own.

I really need to pick up this show on DVD...looks sweet.

That said, I've been saying the same thing for almost as long as its been around, so who knows...hopefully I'll get to it some day.
